  1. Hi, does anyone know how the tessa ban calculate the property tax that is related to the company that i have my house in which i bought 1 year ago, i live in Kathu and when i took the company over, i had it audited, the old share holders out and 2 new ones put in, i'm paying 21,000B in property tax a year, i went to pay my accountant fee's for the years books and mentioned the 21000B figure, they said to high, i'm just wondering how it's calculated, regards

  2. My original topic, you are right it mentioned nothing about the death toll, so you are not concerned about the water shortage, obviously it doesn't effect you in a direct way, you said "we are talking about misuse of water here" now if there is as you said a misuse of water and onto of that misuse, there is also a link to the songkran death toll, you are saying again it's not a concern, how very responsible of you, i loved songkran, on that day i was the least miserable.

    buzzkill.

yip you've hit it right on the head, the figure for the deaths over the festive season is growing day by day, now if one death and more can be associated to the miss use of water, then who am i to be called a buzzkill, but as you see it it's just harmless fun with water, tell the relatives of the dead victims out there, as they are crying mention the term "Buzzkill" , i think the death tole is over 200 and counting, please confirm non of these deaths are by a water related accident.

cry me a freaking river and spare me your hyperbole about death. we are talking about misuse of water here, remember, you started the topic.

What does a death "tole" of 200 have to do with a water shortage, real or imagined, in patong?

    NOTHING.

    now go away misery.

  3. once a year c'mon son

well that's ok then, it's only once a year, what does that mean, in what context should i take that, you are saying although Patong has major water shortage problems, people can't shower, toilets are full to the brim, businesses can't function properly, don't worry just enjoy the situation, obviously you don't suffer from a water problem and thats always the way when people say c'mon, enjoy it, they are not directly effected, so can i ask what about the deaths caused by the water related accidents, is your attitude still, C'mon son, interesting ah!!!!!!!

  5. i have to agree about submersible pumps - last a couple of years then need major service or replacement. Gave up with them after the 4th replacement.

I buy Hitachi suction/lift pumps, 11m lift plus the height you need to reach will need a careful look at the pump specifications on the plate with specifications. My guess would be a 350GX model.

HomePro and House & Home have a good range.

Totally 100% agree, i just bought the 150GX model, a nice piece of kit, cost 4700B, but they did have them at homepro for 4600B, i could have saved 100B, but i'd fitted it, Do as LIK says and get the model that gives 11m lift.

  6. Thank you all, for your very kind and sincere comments.

For the record Paul also owned a car.

This has been the worst day in my 13 years living in Thailand and Paul will be dearly missed by many, family, friends and of course us all at 91.5 FM.

He is to be repatriated to his home in Scotland.

Further plans will be announced in due course.

    Thank you all.

I'm sure like myself many people would like to pay there respects to the memory of Paul, could you please keep us informed if there will be service for Paul, i know so many people would like to show there affection and respect, regards

  7. I simply can't believe what i'm reading, the hill up out of kamala and down the other side is a waiting death trap to happen, how are they going to get through patong once they hit the temporary roundabout at the beginning of kalim, please tell me i'm dreaming this, someone has spiked my tea and i'm hallucinating this story, mark my words, lets have a sweep stake on the first crash and fatality, if only the innocent tourists knew all of this before they arrived, crazy beyond belief

  8. Fantastic, widening the bottom of the hill will allow 2 or more buses to hurtle down the hill at once out of control, The fault was with the bus. not the road, on the kathu side leading up the hill, put a temporary weigh station type of inspection, at random drag the buses in, inspect, fine and if need be confiscate , see how quick the operators get there buses whipped into shape. 10 million baht to change the road, that's really 1 million baht and a new car, house for a high ranking official, sorry to sound so cynical, but when is enough truly going to be enough when it come to innocent people dying coffee1.gif .

  9. Strange you should mention it, my remote on one of the TV's stopped working, so when i went to change the batteries, yes you've guest it, the batteries had leaked all over the inner casing of the remote, no real problem, but it does happen a lot with batteries over herecoffee1.gif

  10. Recently just bought a house, i took over the Thai company that come with the house, had it audited, changed the share holders, so 100% safe, meaning the company and house, the only down side is the yearly accounts and the property tax, who's the best, but cheapest accountants to do the yearly accounts, the accountant firm doing the accounts for the old owner charged 22,000B, i've heard 15,000B is about the norm, but i've no idea where these firms are, someone recommenced a firm beside the caltex garage in kathu, Any recommendations please!!!!!

  11. LIK, all the very best to you and all the TV members for a successful and productive 2014, may you all stay safe, healthy and all find what you's are looking for in 2014, regards Britpop

  12. The propaganda machine say "tourism is up, year on year" thats people coming through phuket airport, a million a month, i think was reported, but more Thai's then ever now fly, so the real figure is nowhere near the tourism authorities figures. the troubles in Bangkok have to have a knock on effect on people coming and if forecast what is going to happen within the next few weeks, tourism will take a nose dive. give them time to get the roads sorted thencoffee1.gif

  13. I remember years ago i was going to Tesco lotus when that was the only shopping store around, as i came down the hill towards the go-cart track in kathu from Patong, a pickup had barrels on the back with something sloshing out, every single bike went down, we all ended up in the ditch next to the road, we were all cut and bruised, the bikes just kept piling up, but when you got out the ditch, you couldn't stand, it was like ice, that was terrible, a month or two i was at the caltex garage in Kathu waiting at the traffic lights, again all the bike were just going down, must have been oil on the road

Are you suggesting that Phuket is the "hub" for having oil on the roadway in South East Asia? smile.pngsmile.png

    Maybe yes, maybe no

  15. I have a nexus 7 tablet, my Thai wife is now hooked on 2 of the games. (housework takes a back seat to THAT anymore)

I believe the Apple products MAY be slightly better, although they tend to want to charge you for more than the Androids (Nexus 7)

You certainly don't need a monthly plan with one of the phone companies here to get a smart phone.

Again, I have an Android (Samung duo) and started out with a plan but dropped it now that I know how to connect to WIFI when I'm sitting somewhere (it's in so many places now for free)

But, can your wife figure out how to do THAT???

I just prepay my minutes (do it online, through my bank), and it is much cheaper than if I had a plan (I think my plan was around 900 baht/month when I had one)

I bought my phone at Banana IT. I figured there I would be getting a real one. (opposed to the copies you see for sale at the markets and who knows what you get in the little kiosks downstairs of Big C)

I think if you ask, they'll tell you (copy or real)

    Lots of choices in phones.

For a status symbol, I believe the I-Phone is tops, followed by the latest and most expensive Android you could buy.

Thai's seem to love colored phones.

I'm more of the: Just so it works, and works fast mentality.

The more you spend, the faster the processor will be and more capacity.

Many will take an SD card for storage.

What does your wife want to do with her phone? Play music? Take videos and pics? Send emails? play games? Or just talk on the phone.

By the way, a tablet is NOT a phone. but a smartphone does everything that a tablet will do. Just smaller screen, Plus it is a phone.

I hope that helps you somewhat.

Thanks, you are quite right, it's a smart phone i'm looking for, we have a business and it runs heavily off the internet, regarding bookings, i check our site and emails every couple of hours, but if i'm away from the house, it's a pain finding a computer to check in, i've only a small smart phone, so even i could do with a 7 inch smartphone, all the alert facilities although simple would be a great help, sometimes the reply emails can be as simple as a "yes we do", to full emails with attachments and add on's, now the main problem is, by the time i except a booking, call our business to book the appointment in, a lot of times the time slot has already gone, then it's emailing the customer back and doing the whole process again,

So she need to get in the 21st century, learn email, set up a live daily time slot diary calender, so as soon as a booking is taking it's added to the time slot and when i check in i can see what time slots are available and when i add one it will alert her smart phone, so on and so on.

It's really we could do with a computer at the business, but smartphones as i believe, can do these tasks and more, so convenient, portable, alert, email friendly, and a phone, yip that's a smartphone!!!!!, Thanks again it was helpful info wai.gif

If that is what you need then check out the Samsung Galaxy Note.

ended up getting a Samsung Tab3 , 8 inch screen, looked at the write ups and reviews online and it come out top, in the price range for 12500 it's a lovely smartphone, all that has to happen now is the misses learn how to use it

  17. Dishwasher has a 3 pin plug but is missing the earth pin - so could be a simple fix. But I still will not know if it is correctly earthed. Also, in the past I have had shocks from other appliances. So I will get it checked out by an electricia

Please post what the electrician says, i'm always interested in what they come up with. regards

  18. well it's xmas time, i was looking at a Samsung Tab3 7 inch screen for the misses, she's a complete computer novice, but needs the convenience of the internet and have a phone facility, i know nothing about tablets, they are about 9990B, but i was at True move and all there tablets and phones are half price, but i think you have to sign up to a years contract on one of there plans. i'd appreciate any advice, not on the misses, tablets and best prices please!!!!!!

  19. Thank you very much for the suggestions I will get on to it on Monday.

Yes you are probably correct about the house not being earthed. I have had the occasional shock from the oven and microwave in the past but have just got a new dishwasher with a stainless steel door. It seems to be "live". I can open the door using a dishcloth without any shock but if I use my bare hand I get zapped. The poor cat made the mistake of rubbing up against the door - it won't do it again.

I will unplug it until it can be checked by an electrician.

    Thanks again

Does the dishwasher have a 2 or 3 pin plug on it, of coarse if there's no earthing it really won't make a difference if it does have 3, does your kitchen sockets have 3 holes, one being the earth???, normally new appliances would be well insulated electrically to avoid a discharge, but electricity always finds a way.

better to be safe then sorry, good your getting it checked, remember your electric showers, have the electrician take a look, just for piece of mind, take care, be safe

  20. I'd be very surprised if your place is earthed, i've even seen the plug sockets and ring-main with earth, but the earth in the consumer box/ fuse box goes nowhere, if your in a house easiest way is to buy a metre earth spike (less then 100B), bury it completely straight down in the earth and get your sparky to connect the earth to it.

Most Thai kettles and toasters come with the earth pin missing, i guess it's off metal appliances you are getting the shocks, metal hotplates, metal kettle, the edges or screws off appliances

If your apartment or house is Thai wired, meaning just live and neutral, no earth!!!!!!, it's worth taking precautions as it seems you are, get them to check the shower electric feed aswel, again you can buy a sensitive mini circuit breaker ( less 120B) and that will will give you another safety device as well as the earth breaker built into the shower itself and the breaker in the consumer box, but it should be earthed 1,000,000%.

Hope you get sorted, not a nice feeling when the appliances bite back
