  1. There are a lot of useful extensions for Firefox. Remembering them all and then installing them is a pain. There should be a (yet another) extension that remembers which ones have been installed and then "gets" them for you, remembering your settings.

There once was something like this. Where is it?

    Thank you!

  2. Perhaps her father can be introduced to the hospital that will buy his kidney for 400,000B. He will be right there when he needs some whisky the next time.

I think that he might also be interested in acting as a volunteer for medical experiments / pharmaceutical trials, which can pay quite highly.

Best to introduce these ideas whilst the bottle of whisky is still half full, i think.

  3. For somebody that needs paperwork to show they have completed a degree, what are the best options?

Some "organizations" award a degree for life experience. They have a decent looking websites too, and send nice looking paperwork, too, once the formalities have been completed. I can't remember the websites, though.

Short of something of that sort, what about ksr? Would there be a place there that provides documents for less than 2000 Baht?

Finally, for somebody who would like to do cheap, distance learning towards an easily attainable degree, where would be the best place?

  4. Cyberstar, how much is that a month?

Can just about any apt downtown get this service?

    thanks

How do i get in touch with the True Cable people?

    Where are they in CNX?

I looked at the True website, but couldn't work out where the True Cable deal was discussed...

  5. Hello!

I would like a cheap place in Chiang Mai for a few months or maybe more.

If it had internet / cable tv, that would be great. Maybe aircon would be useful later.

    One room is ok.

    Any ideas?

near thae pae gate is good, but transport is ok.

btw, i heard about a place 700 meters up the mae rim road, turn right and next to a hospital.

It is meant to be v good/cheap. I couldn't find it.

What would that hospital be called? It is supposed to be on a one way street.

I don't have better directions sorry.

But i am looking for anywhere, ok? :o

  6. That sort of pain can come due to sinuses drying up. If it happens after the flight, try some hot water in a sink with a towel over your head to soften/drain the block.

You might try the same sort of thing in advance of flying to pre-empt the problem.

In flight, sniff hot steaming coffee?

Just a quick post to ask if anyone can recommend a good sinus, (ear, nose and throat) specialist in CM?

And any advice for painful sinuses whilst flying, have been flying for many years now, but recently have experienced problems upon descent, thought it was a head cold but has sustained itself over 3 weeks.

I have heard that CLEAR EASE could be a possible solution. Anyone know if this is readily available in CM?

I am sorry that I cannot recommend an ENT specialist here in CM, but may I ask you if you had a cold already when you flew?

If so, I would consult a doctor immediately, especially if you are feeling at all giddy or have a feeling of fullness in your ear/head.

A few tips which have helped me with similar sinus pain problems:

sip water during the flight, esp during descent.

chew gum (not nice I know, but it does help) or suck sweets before take-off and descent.

use otarine ear drops one hour before take-off and half an hour before descent.

You could use a prescribed nasal spray or saline solution squirted up your nostrils before a flight to help clear your sinuses. You could also use the saline now to try to unblock your ears (buy from any chemist, big bottles are around 75 baht). Chiang Mai is a markedly polluted city, and sinus sufferers need regular breaks (eg to the mountains or the beach).

Best wishes and hope another poster can help with a referral to a good ENT doc.

  7. Hello!

    Good, but cheap, ok? :o

Does anybody have contact details for a place to learn how to sail? Pattaya would be ideal, but if there are great deals elsewhere, that would be ok.

    Any tips on getting started?

    Thank you!

  8. breasts? I have got to have a look at it, i mean them, again. :D

    PS

    Please reply quickly :D

Is it this one you are looking for :o

Wow! This thread is way better than i thought it was going to be. Thank you everyone for posting!

I haven't seen these avatars before.

I have been painstakingly searching here and maybe it was whiteHrs or Darknight ...

But I will save these ones anyway...

Might anybody else have the avatar I am looking for?

Are there suggestions where i can find such an avatar?

    Thank you everyone!

  9. Does anybody have suggestions for a language school in central bangkok that would provide a visa for a part-time/supply teacher?

Reasonable pay, zero BS with admin, turn up, teach, go...

Young adults and older, ideally plain conversation/communication lessons...

    Thank you for your ideas!

    :o

  10. I am happy to have street vendors, but don't like the obstructions they cause. I hope Bangkok never loses its street vendors.

Who do the vendors pay to keep their spot? (Fights break out sometimes.)

The city should derive income from them, not gangsters. Lines should be painted on the paving: if the lines are no longer visible, the trader has expanded outside of permission, and would be liable to being fined.

What i would like is some work undertaken to improve passage for people with disabilities. Can you imagine being in a wheelchair or even blind, and trying to negotiate those pavements?

The next step is then dealing with the wiring!

  11. I worked as a teacher in Thailand for 2 years and I am in the middle of my year contract here in Busan, South Korea. I have to go home for 2 months this summer. I am looking for a replacement. Must be a native speaker, and female. 5000-6000 US$ from June 29-Sept 4. Apartment, medical included. You have to pay your airfair around 20,000 baht return from BKK. Classes are small kids are great. Huge farang population here. PM me if you are interested.

    Meme.

    Hi Meme!

I am definitely interested. Only problem: I am a guy!

I have a Masters Degree in Education, and a Diploma in TEFL with many years of ESL experience in Asia. I enjoy the job.

Do you think you could send me their email? They (or somebody they know) might want me for the Summer...

    Thanks for posting!

    neil

  12. Which is the most farang friendly place in Issan? (Things like availability of western food, especially vegan / veggie, book shops, fun.)

Being suitable for farangs, i suppose that place would be less like the rest of issan, and therefore lacking many of the benefits of being there. Am i right?

  13. Calculating the funds you need to retire is an important issue.

Retiring in Thailand is a good idea, I think. It is cheap, has good health facilities that are getting even better, the climate is warm, and it is just a great country :D

How much money do you need? 1000$ a month would be a good retirement figure. You would not need to be scrimping and saving to stay within budget, and could put a little bit away each month for surprises or special events.

When planning for retirement, plan on living forever. You want that 1000$ coming in till you are 300 million years old.

It is not difficult to calculate. You know what you need: 12,000$ a year.

Now, where are you going to get it, guaranteed? Bonds guarantee your income. Lets talk government bonds. The people of the united states of america guarantee to pay you approx 5% a year.

    http://news.ft.com/markets/bonds/emerging

A US Govt bond is considered about the safest possible financial investment, and is often used as a benchmark when considering other possible investments.

If you decide you will put all your savings into US Govt bonds (Vanguard Mutual funds provide an extremely cost effective vehicle for investments, by the way) then the thinking goes like this:

My lump sum is giving me 12,000$ interest a year.

    My interest rate is 5%

So, 12,000$ is 5% of my lump sum.

So, what is the size of my lump sum?

    If 5% of my lump is 12,000$, then 1% is 12,000/5= 2400$

1% of my lump sum is 2400$, so 100% of my lump sum is 240,000$

Therefore, you need a 240,000$ lump sum to retire on 1000$ a month.

However, prices might go up in the future...your lump sum isn't growing to compensate for the increases in prices, the inflation. Your spending might change, too; for example, you might start spending money on nurses :o

You could live on 500$ a month though, if not in the city, and living frugally. So then you would only need 120,000$ as a lump sum, and you could live forever.

Or you could consider investing in the stockmarket, which historically has provided a much higher return than bonds. (the best sweet spot between risk / return balancing your portfolio has been 20% Bonds 80% stock, iirc. Don't have the figures to hand._)

You could also do some light work, and get paid for it, which might help.

Invest in your health. Now. Light exercise and lots of it.

    :D

And go veggie! It is great, once you are in the swing.

  14. Could anybody provide an idea of how much such a space would cost to rent or buy?

Where would be the best place to start looking for such a premises?

A bit larger would be ok.

What are things like in thailand regarding deposit and so on?

Also, i know somebody who had an internet cafe, the owner upped the rent about 400%, so they decided to leave. Are Thai renters berserk to try and get their rent as high as possible, to the extent that they might extinguish a business being run there?
