Can't help about where you can get treatment in Chiang Mai but after 2 years of pain and treatment with, firstly Gabapentin and finally Pregabalin, I had an MRi scan when the medication no longer helped, which showed 2 discs out of alignment and also degenerative spinal stenosis. This caused pain in my buttocks, down both legs to my knees and then internally in my knees to the extent I was in great pain walking even a short distance. I then was given injections on both sides of my lower back, described as nerve root block injections and, one year on am still virtually pain free. I guess these would be described as epidural but I had numbing injections first so felt nothing until the real deal when it was like a severe momentary electric shock down each leg. Pretty much life changing for me but not a cure and will need a repeat when the effects wear off.
Hope you get some relief.

I've just returned from holiday in Chiang Mai and saw at least 4 scooters
with twin wheels at the front and single wheel at the rear.
I'm not a motorcyclist so I've no idea of the make, just spotted them
because they were unusual.

Saw it passing over the UK on Christmas Eve.
Lots of people outside telling their kids it was Santa and his sleigh
on the way to deliver presents.
It wasn't particularly impressive but nice for the kids.

First night with my mates our fishing guide too us out to introduce us to Thai food.
He was French but spoke Thai like a native and ordered dish after dish of who knows what.
Have to say that some of it was pretty good but other stuff was disgusting. He told us
later what we had been eating....pigs ears, hundred year old eggs (he claimed were
pickled in horses urine) etc.
Been to Thailand many times now and will eat most anything, including deep fried bugs.

Unlike most of you guys I spent four days fishing at Bung Sam Lan catching huge Mekong catfish.
Put my back out and was pretty much incapacitated for the rest of the trip.
I decided that a massage might be beneficial but I got more than I expected.

Haven't noticed vending machines in the airports (although I wasn't looking) but there are many Pound shops (Everything's a pound) where you can get a Sim for almost all of the service providers.

Have you considered flying to Newcastle and just getting a taxi from there?

Ah, if only I had the same problems!
Sorry I don't have an answer.
I'm afraid you'll just have to continue suffering.

^^ Mate, that's a decent size fish you have there ... what was the catch?
Believe it or not caught at my mates place in Chiang Mai. Don't recall the weight but I've caught much bigger fish of different species from the same lake.
Anyway, c'mon pick your favourites.
Cute kids by the way.

I'm no expert, but is just me who thinks there is a vital piece of media missing?
Maybe a photo? Phone numbers for the really cute ones :-)
Thai Visa members as the HR (Human Resource) Department ... who would have guessed ...
.
Can't sleep either David?
I think this is what he's talking about but personally I would have said No.1 is on the left.
Anyway for me, using Krishnan's numbering, I'd go 1, 8, 6.

Great question.
I remember years ago when I thought my grandparents were really ancient in their sixties.
I'm 65 in a few months and still play an hour's 5-a-side football every week, go to the gym on 2 other days and spend 2 days looking after my own grandchildren.
I'm single again and find that if I go on a date with a woman close to my own age it's like being out with my mother!
Age is just a state of mind!!
Interested to see what others think.

Flew to Siem Reap in Cambodia a couple of weeks ago with a mate whose passport expires in August. We're on holiday in Chiang Mai from the UK and wanted to visit Angkor Wat. No problem on arrival in Cambodia and no problem coming back to Thailand after filling out our visa on arrival form on the plane.

I'm not going to try to answer your question, rather I'll ask you one instead.
You're not going to move to Thailand and you're not going to take her to the States.
What does she get out of the relationship, 2 weeks a year with you in Thailand?
Not much of a deal!!

It's the flights that are ridiculously expensive for the time and distance involved. Hotels are reasonably priced.
Have a look at www.tripadvisor.com for flights and hotels.
You'll have to book them separately but, they guarantee to beat competitors prices.

I've taken a set of chef's knives through with no problem.

To get a 'cheap' Bkk-CNX do you need to endure the hassle of getting from Suv to DM?? Is it worthwhile? I have looked at it before the other way around for the last flight out of CNX and transport at that time looks a real problem to BKK. Anyone done it recently?
Bangkok Air are cheap and they fly between Suv and Chiang Mai so no need to cross Bangkok.

Not sure I'd call B4,500 return "cheap", although I myself do like PG, and use them when possible ?
It was good last summer, when they were doing specials for about half their normal price, though !
Hope they repeat that deal again in 2014 !
Agree with what you say but, it's all relative isn't it. Depends on where you're coming from and your income (perception of what is cheap).
Also agree with Hello Dolly, as you age, comfort can become a deciding factor.

I want a ticket from say 2 weeks from now till beginning of August..hopefully i will get my passport back from DURHAM PASSPORT OFFICE before that.
If you clear immigration in Bangkok then you will have collect your bags and check them back in again when you go back through immigration to check in for your domestic flight to Chiang Mai. Much better to check your bags all the way through to Chiang Mai and stay airside as a transit passenger. Thanks for all the information.yes i am worrying about going through bangkok because with all the possibility of trouble airport staff of all levels will also have trouble going to and from the airport so there has to be some delays cancellations etc
Correct when people say about the long waiting connections on the HK flights
KL i looked at but again getting the Air Asia flight up with 30kg expensive
al the rest of KL singapore go through BKK
Good info about transiting at BKK I have always just got off at BKK and booked a flight there and then saving me money on the ones advertised on line but like you said have to q up at immigration..so i will book right through and clear immigration at CM
Cost of the flights are around 820 from either glasgow or edinburgh i believe with either Klm or emirates
British airways is another option but have to change airport in london on the way back
any more information on the Cm flight greatly appreciated or a cheaper cost from uk cheers
Just to clarify, you clear immigration in Bangkok not Chiang Mai and usually takes about 30 minutes. You usually have about 90 minutes waiting time before the Bangkok Air flight up North. The price of around £820 is about right for this time of year. I'm doing the same journey in April when it might be a little cheaper as it's just past the high season.

Further up the thread I found the OP a flight leaving at the end of this month for £596.
I would like to clarify if i stay as a transit obviously i clear customs immigration at CM
I
Susteno is wrong. You clear immigration in Bangkok as a transit passenger, but not through the normal huge queues, staying airside and going straight into Domestic for your connecting flight and then pick up your bags in Chiang Mai. I do this twice a year. As for the cheaper priced flights, yes they are available if you're happy to sit around in Dubai for 9hrs each way.

I've looked at this before and couldn't find any viable alternatives to Bangkok. What I do is book right through with Emirates from Newcastle so I don't see my luggage until I arrive in Chiang Mai (Bangkok Air from Swampy). Ok I have a stop in Dubai on the way but, the beauty of this is that, when I land in Bangkok, I can bypass the normal 3hr immigration queues and am through in 30mins waiting for my connection. Works for me.

I use an old telescopic car aerial with a magnet superglued to the end. Great for retrieving those small screws dropped into impossible places.
CP49
Cool, good Idea. Where can I get a small magnet then?
Previous topic on Thai Visa. Just search on "magnets" and you'll find a number of suggestions.

Walk-in flu shot? Side effects
in Chiang Mai
Posted
I was asked if I was allergic to eggs as the normal vaccine contains albumen. There was an alternative available without this.
