  1. To get a 'cheap' Bkk-CNX do you need to endure the hassle of getting from Suv to DM?? Is it worthwhile? I have looked at it before the other way around for the last flight out of CNX and transport at that time looks a real problem to BKK. Anyone done it recently?

Bangkok Air are cheap and they fly between Suv and Chiang Mai so no need to cross Bangkok.

Not sure I'd call B4,500 return "cheap", although I myself do like PG, and use them when possible ?

It was good last summer, when they were doing specials for about half their normal price, though !

Hope they repeat that deal again in 2014 ! smile.png

Agree with what you say but, it's all relative isn't it. Depends on where you're coming from and your income (perception of what is cheap).

Also agree with Hello Dolly, as you age, comfort can become a deciding factor.

  3. Thanks for all the information.yes i am worrying about going through bangkok because with all the possibility of trouble airport staff of all levels will also have trouble going to and from the airport so there has to be some delays cancellations etc

Correct when people say about the long waiting connections on the HK flights

KL i looked at but again getting the Air Asia flight up with 30kg expensive

al the rest of KL singapore go through BKK

Good info about transiting at BKK I have always just got off at BKK and booked a flight there and then saving me money on the ones advertised on line but like you said have to q up at immigration..so i will book right through and clear immigration at CM

Cost of the flights are around 820 from either glasgow or edinburgh i believe with either Klm or emirates

British airways is another option but have to change airport in london on the way back

any more information on the Cm flight greatly appreciated or a cheaper cost from uk cheers

Just to clarify, you clear immigration in Bangkok not Chiang Mai and usually takes about 30 minutes. You usually have about 90 minutes waiting time before the Bangkok Air flight up North. The price of around £820 is about right for this time of year. I'm doing the same journey in April when it might be a little cheaper as it's just past the high season.

If you clear immigration in Bangkok then you will have collect your bags and check them back in again when you go back through immigration to check in for your domestic flight to Chiang Mai. Much better to check your bags all the way through to Chiang Mai and stay airside as a transit passenger.

Further up the thread I found the OP a flight leaving at the end of this month for £596.

I want a ticket from say 2 weeks from now till beginning of August..hopefully i will get my passport back from DURHAM PASSPORT OFFICE before that.

I would like to clarify if i stay as a transit obviously i clear customs immigration at CM

    I

Susteno is wrong. You clear immigration in Bangkok as a transit passenger, but not through the normal huge queues, staying airside and going straight into Domestic for your connecting flight and then pick up your bags in Chiang Mai. I do this twice a year. As for the cheaper priced flights, yes they are available if you're happy to sit around in Dubai for 9hrs each way.

  5. I use an old telescopic car aerial with a magnet superglued to the end. Great for retrieving those small screws dropped into impossible places.

Cool, good Idea. Where can I get a small magnet then?

Previous topic on Thai Visa. Just search on "magnets" and you'll find a number of suggestions.

  6. I've found those small pellets work great to attract fish into your swim if you place them in a pva bag tied close to your hookbait. It doesn't seem to matter what the hookbait is.

Can you get PVA bags in Thailand?

I resorted to buying some last time I was in China because I haven't found them in Thailand. Yet.

Don't honestly know as I've always brought my own from the UK. Hope someone else can advise.
  7. The calculation is volts x amps = watts so your pump will use 5 amps.

Therefore if you purchase a 40 amp/hr battery then a full charge will give you 40/5 = 8 hours of running time.

Not sure the best charging method but a trickle charger may be the best option as the battery will likely be used infrequently.

    Hope this helps.

  8. Have you tried restoring the phone to it's original factory settings? It might work but you'll need to back-up anything such as contacts beforehand. (maybe onto your micro sd card)

Turn off the phone and then hold the volume down button and the power button for about 5 seconds until it powers up. Then navigate to Factory Reset with the volume down button and press the power button. Not saying this will solve your problem but it's worth a try if you can't find any professional support.

    Best of luck

  9. Try to find a Shimano Beastmaster or Exage rod. They are available in either 5 sections or as telescopic versions and come with a hard case zip-up tube for protection. They're not cheap (£70 -£110) but are absolute quality. I spend 8 weeks over 2 holidays in Chiang Mai every year and use the Beastmaster for both lightweight fishing and also for species up to 40kg. They fit easily into my suitcase. Not sure about availability in Thailand but if you're willing to have sent from overseas, or get a friend to bring during a visit, then it's very worthwhile. Google them for details!

    Tight Lines.

  10. I spend 8 weeks in Chiang Mai spread over 2 visits every year and will myself be there in November staying with a married friend. I have never felt threatened in any location and while people denegrate Loi Kroh Road I must say that I am a regular at The Olde Bell British pub situated there and am quite amused at the antics of the bar girls trying to entice you into the numerous drinking establishments. If you and your daughter are broad minded then I am sure you will be similarly amused.

Chiang Mai has very many sights worth looking at but you won't be able to see them all in 5 days. My bet is you will want to come back.

    Enjoy your stay.
