Patong has some prospect of meeting people’s hopes and expectations. Any real infrastructural improvement would reasonably be the separation of rain water drains from sewage drains. This change would also be a good time to consider adding a third underground network for electric, cable and phone lines. Most people notice the smell of drains and the wild overhead cabling on their first visit to Patong. Both of these scream third world. It’s a fair argument that “this is Thailand what were you expecting? As is typical a change like this is often brought about by private enterprise an example is Jungceylon with its self funded underground infrastructure. The next likely place could be beach road. A joint private and government initiative, beach road could set the blueprint for ongoing improvements to infrastructure. The prospect of downside seems minimal. How many people will miss the drain smell and overhead cables? At some point a Patong residents association may well provide the extra impetus to get projects underway. As seems often the case, all people having an interest in Patong will need to stand up and be heard. A first step in Patong self management.

The smell BTW , I always thought was Methane gas, and it'd bow up one day! They'd blame terrorists instead of waste management , I'd bet on it !

MY wife runs BigBill's Deli and I worked at Rock Hard for 15years , next year is my 25th year here.

Patong ,especially Bangla has done nothing but change , everytime you turn around it seems!

What I don't appreciate is condemning Patong all the time like everyone who lives here is out to screw you!And as sure as just like any city that parties as hard as Patong does every night ,especially in high season which now seems to only be MID December til mid January, those kind of places always get called seedy , usually by people who go out to have a bad time , they really exist .

Or the people who couldn't afford to do a biz in Patong caused by high rents , and bad mouth it whenever they can.

Sorry , but I lived and Worked & survived 7 Mardi Gras in New Orleans on Bourbon Street ,

all those crazy people from all over the world! Might say all the people yelling "show us your tits" in New Orleans , makes Bourbon Street and All that Jazz , a bit seedy too!

The Combat Zone in Boston , great places to party always get reps, State & Rush Streets in Chicago ,Times Square in NY is much different today but I remember it before the Reform, scary!

The new shopping complex next door to the banana club on beach road Patong is getting one as well.

Its not the drugs that are the scourge of our time ,it's the abuse not use of drugs that is the scourge !

Just as Prohibition proved in America , laws against what people want to buy , only provides another way for

the Criminal Elements in our World to make big money off the poorest of people.

Usually , when I hear USA politicos condemn the Drug Trade and keeping

it illegal , not even allowing medicinal uses for pot , I truly believe that politician gets big donations

from those who benefit from its illegality and are raking in billions. The funding in the USA for the so-called War on Drugs ,I call it the biggest waste of $$$$$ their budget was over

6 Billion$ US .....that 's alot of money that could be spent better , to educate the population of the physical destruction

to their bodies caused by abuse of drugs , not just a casual recreational use of a drug.

When I worked for a Tobacco Company in the late 60\s and early 70's the government sold Marijuana tax stamps ,which big tobacco quickly bought ! They know the world governments will wake up one day and take away the big profits in illegal drugs, and they're redy to Roll! Pun intended !!!

Just an Update for our Diners and friends and of course fellow T-V readers, , although calling Flower is the best way to set up a reservation!

BBD has placed a Doorbell on the window by our entry door , so you can ring the bell , but sometimes we are upstairs ! So ,please be patient and give a few minutes to get downstairs safely lol !

For the inquiry about Thanksgiving by jdean, BBD does a big Turkey Dinner with all the trimmins' , BBD hasn't figured this years cost yet but last year was 499B and will hopefully be close to that but we will let the Phuket forum readers now early next month ,We only sit about 15 people per seating and takeaways, and reservations go quick.

My first area I lived in Wash Sq. in 1988 , and alot of guys were over 60 back then ! I was a mere 40 yr. old newbie , even tho there were past visits. What a area , all kinds of characters. I redid the menu at what became Bourbon St. , The Texan , originally a Patpong Bar favored by ex-Gi's and CIA sorts!

Funny but I introduced many new guys to that area from '88 til '93 when I returned to Phuket in mid '88 only to return in October to live in Wash.Sq. again @ Bourbon St.

All the remarks about the ladies of that area , seemed just like most bars you go out to in the world , you try to pic up bartenders and waitresses except the other countries instead of handing over some baht for services rendered , you need to buy dinner ,go to a show and the latest definition of rape in Western cities : SEX w/o Cocaine ! But whatta I know I hit 65 the Official Senior Citizen mark ! Yes , Medicare age ....but there are some advantageous things in this new state of age ??? Well ,the gals in their 40's and 50's are getting cuter !

OOps ,also forgot to mention BBD takes Reservations to , for groups and just for 1 or 2 people

so ,I also think this isn't much of a problem to call and tell someone your coming to eat!

I mean , have we bwcome so catered to by the new tech ,u cant make a call, its too much trouble lol
