  1. 1. Tamnanpar (classic forest) restaurant on the outskirts of Ban Phe Rayong.

    2. Anywhere on Mae Rum Pheung Beach Ban Phe, 12km of empty beach except on weekends and public holidays. (Thai prices for food and beer)

    3. Laem Mae Phim Beach, Rayong. Nicer and longer than no2 and even emptier plus the Swedish capital of Thailand ( or so it seems). Just 35kms further east than Ban Phe.

Sorry for the Rayong bias but live here and only been to Ayutthaya, Bangkok, Pattaya & Saraburi but was surprised about Ayutthaya as it just looks like a lot of red brick chimneys from the potteries in the UK Midlands lol.

  2. They have the potential to electrocute you if they are not earthed

    and an internal fault occurs.

Not only that but they also need to be protected with an ELB

(earth leakage breaker) that is fitted in the supply line through the

    Live and Neutral.

Only earthing is NOT 100% safe.

Absolute <deleted>, if there is correct earthing and the heater element becomes live then the current will flow to ground through the earth which should then trip the circuit breaker.
Without RCB or ELB protection the circuit breaker that your referring to will only trip when the amperage exceeds the maximum the circuit breaker is rated at which is usually 32A or higher.

With an RCB or ELB incorporated the amperage is up to 30 milliamps before it trips, which makes

    it a life saver.

There is nothing <deleted> about what i said.

of course it is the fault current which trips the circuit breaker (whatever the circuit breaker rating is ) but no current flows through the person (possibly pico or micro amps) because the impedance to ground through the earth wire is very low and that's why there should be a large cross section earth cable.

And without an earth the ELB is useless.

again <deleted>, there is no earth connection on an rcd and the reason you get an electric shock is because you have made a current path to ground. the rcd detects that the neutral current is lower than the live current so some current is flowing to ground so therefore it does not require an earth. people get killed because of bad advice.

    Is it complete <deleted>?

    He said ELB/ ELCB.

You are talking about an RCD/RCCB which of course doesn't require an Earth as it measures Residual Current and doesn't care how the loss got to Earth?

Whether you approve of them or not, will an Earth Leakage Circuit Breaker function without an Earth?

    .

rcd, elcb, elb are the same thing

Absolute <deleted>, if there is correct earthing and the heater element becomes live then the current will flow to ground through the earth which should then trip the circuit breaker. By correct I mean at least a 10mm earth cable and all metal pipework bonded to ground as well (not sure of exact UK requirements now as I don't live there and I'm industrial not domestic). In the UK it is not a requirement to have an rcd fitted, only required for new installations. Also an rcd device doesn't need an earth connection, it just looks at the current imbalance between live and neutral - i.e. current in is the same as current out.The problem I have seen here is that they don't connect the earth at the at the consumer unit to the house wiring and also at one friends house I saw the bonding for his metal roof struts earthed with a 1mm wire which would vapourise if there was a lightning strike. The one thing that makes me nervous with electric water heaters is that the mains supply to the house comes via overhead lines and liable to lightning strikes although at the moment I live in a condo so I'm protected by the 3 phase incomer transformers and switchgear protection.

  6. "If the white-mask people roam around and someone lobs a grenade at them, who will be held responsible? Eventually, it will be the government," Chalerm warned.

"We will take care of you, white masks, but if you move around and an explosion occurs, what will happen then?" Chalerm said, adding that the movement should rally at the Royal Plaza, Sanam Luang or outside Lumpini Park.

What he is saying is that they don't want you to roam around so they know exactly where to throw the grenades, obvious?.

  7. 'BANGKOK: -- The Department of Special Investigation (DSI) chief, Tarit Pengdit, yesterday summoned representatives of 10 luxury auto companies to discuss the problem of tax evasion in an attempt to understand and solve the problem of luxury-auto-related tax evasion.'

LOL, if they actually set a sensible import tax then people wouldn't try to smuggle and they would probably gain more tax income. The UK is a good example of this with the high cigarette tax encouraging smuggling.

  8. the news on channel 3 have just finished reporting it and you could clearly see in the videos large stones being hurled at the white masks and the police making a half hearted attempt at holding the red shirts back. my girlfriend was calling them stupid and got upset when she saw a stone hit one of the protestors in the head. there seemed to be one very aggressive 'red shirt' who even seemed to push the police out of his way.

  9. Just by calling it the Thai spring shows how clueless they are.

Oh really? Maybe you dont understand the concept of the beginnings of something new as "spring " is after "winter" . have a look at recent terminology used against anti "fake, psuedo, democracies" (which Thailand is) in other parts of the world.

"There must be some kind of way out of here" Jimi Hendrix -All along the Watchtower or Bob Dylan?

  10. What a sick bastard. Why 220 to scare animals away? 12 or 24 V would do with high level milli amperes. If you put 220 you deliberately want to kill.

Nah, just your typical mongoloid. Guy doesn't know shit about voltage and amperes (nor did the the poor elephant).

seems neither do the two of you, you can't increase the current without increasing the voltage and it's the current that kills I=V/R . that's why RCD devices are designed to trip at about 20mA ( although they state 40mA on them). normal cattle fences are high voltage but don't have enough power to supply any current when an animal touches it, micro amps, so the animal just gets a shock although a high enough voltage will disrupt your body control same as a tazer does.

  11. 'Rakkecha Chaechai, spokesman for the Ombudsman's Office, said Phongthep had written to the office asking for more time. He said the letter arrived after the deadline the government was given.

In the letter, Phongthep reasoned that the Ombudsman had suggested that regulations on passport issuance should be amended, hence he needed time to set up a committee to do the job.

Rakkecha said it was up to the Ombudsman to decide whether Phongthep should be granted more time.'

Talk about having your excuses prepared, letter arrived after the deadline then set up a committee and then pass the buck lol!

  12. Air India have some good deals at the moment. I've just paid £480 return for a 4 month stay. It's a bit of a wait in Delhi airport, but to save £200, I don't mind that.. Skyscanner is where I book all my flights to and fro.

If you want direct flights, they compare Thai, Eva and BA all on the one site

    Good Luck

A friend has just returned from the UK and he flew Air India, he's an experienced traveller and said he wouldn't touch them with a barge pole again although he did say the flights were fairly empty on the UK sectors - wonder why?

  13. As somebody previously mentioned Sri Lankan Airlines does some very good business class prices, I flew to London last September for about 1,100 pounds business class when BA is about 950 economy and flew to the Maldives business class at the same price as Bangkok Airways economy this year. Columbo is also a small airport so it's very hard to get lost although it is a short connection going to London.

I also recommend using expedia.co.uk even if it is to check seat availability as it shows how many seats are available on a flight and if you go on seatguru.com you can find the best seats on the flight. Long haul I always recommend an aisle seat in the middle as there is only one person to get past you.

  14. I have flown twice in the last year with Sri Lankan airlines business class to London and the Maldives via Columbo and the price to London was a little bit more than British Airways economy and Maldives was the same as Bangkok Airways economy. I don't know if they fly to Copenhagen though and the tickets were bought online at their website. I can highly recommend them.

I know, I did a cut'n'paste and couldn't be arsed to enlarge it lol

  15. I have used Thai EMS service for years and have been very satisfied. Have sent items to the US, Philippines, Saudi Arabia and the UK with nary a hitch.

Much cheaper than DHL and for me just as reliable.

I use ems a lot, for example sending one of my passports to the UK to obtain visas for work and I have never had a problem with them. dhl took 2 days to deliver a package from swampy to Rayong after it arrived from the UK, sigh.

  16. Thai dog owners, or ex dog keepers, make me scream here in Rayong when they come from Bangkok etc and dump the dogs on the local beaches then drive home. There are absolutely lovely previously well looked after dogs dumped, come to Mae Rhum Phum beach Rayong to find your next dog as a few local expats have done. It's a weekly occurrence seeing new dogs at the mercy of the existing dumped soi dogs and as some people have pointed out farang don't help when our Thai partners feed the cute puppies, a puppy was dumped alone today and none of us will do anything as we'll end up with a dog rescue centre we don't want. I have been attacked so many times, but not injured yet, as I understand and kept dogs but I refuse to do the same as the Thai recyclers and just bend my head and ignore them. There are a number of dogs who might have a rat poison and paracetamol burger if they continue their aggression, there was a 10yr old child attacked by a pack of dogs about 2 weeks ago in broad daylight on a nearby beach. I love dogs but what happens here is disgusting, look after them or not have them and cull the feral soi dogs before children are killed.
