  1. Apart from the government assistance, most people around here rely on family living away to fund the yearly rice crop. Here there are several instances of people who are skipping steps in preparation and planting that they have always done before, because that money is not available this year. This will lead to weed infested rice harvest, reduced yields and reduced income. When pushed for why, the answer is the same, family has a new "first time buy" car. That in itself is another story that should get interesting around Christmas when the freebie packages and rebates run out and the monthly costs skyrocket.

Another issue is a change made to the law which passes the debt non-repayments of the children on to the parents.

To quote from the movie "Snatch" as the cockneys drove into the gypsy camp, "This will get messy!"

Very good quote from you, they are my exact thoughts fro my experience here in Isaan
  2. And so, let the predictable Thai bashing begin.

Actually, even after thirty-plus years of travel and living in Thailand ... and being fully aware of it's many flaws and warts ... I still very much love Thailand, it's culture and it's people.

Don't you think that it's a bit early to be crowing about best of anything for 2013. We are barely 40% into 2013.

Where does this garbage come from? who writes it?

And if this....The capital city of Thailand is known for its street food, entertainment, tuk-tuk tricycle taxis, shopping malls and the hospitality of people which draw a large number of tourists from overseas each year. Several foreign films featuring locations in Bangkok have also contributed to the rising fame.....is this the criteria? if it is you gotta be joking (holy sh!t someone might be serious)

And, indeed, it does begin. So very predictable.

I understand that some people don't like Thailand ... so be it. But what I find rather puzzling is how vile, vehement, and emotionally charged so many on TV get when expressing their dislikes and criticisms. And what totally mystifies me are the ones who continually do this and actually still choose to live here. Seems rather masochistic to me.

I must agree with your statement, WHY do they continue to complain when there is always an aeroplane
  3. TO THE OP, OPEN YOUR MIND ANT TAKE YOUR HEAD OUT OF YOUR <deleted>.Its a free world just get on with your life and dont worry to much about the others.

Enjoy each day,,,,,,,,,,,,maybe the dancer looked at you and thought????????????????????????

But he never posteD on TV

Who is right and who is wrong and who is the judge.

Just enjoy your life mate and let it be

  4. they are poor for many reasons but the constant handouts do not help.

Theres too much rain, my crops are dead - handout please

There isn't enough rain,my crops are dying - handout please

I'm too lazy to get off my arse - handout please

I've pissed away all my money on booze and fags - loan please

I need to buy cows as I sold the last batch and pissed the money up against the wall - creditcard please

The temperature has dropped by 1 degree - free blankets please

you want me to vote for you - money please

you want me to be a red shirt and travel to bangkok - money, food and transport please

I have spent the electric money on gambling - free electric please

I don't want to pay more than 20 baht to eat in a food court - control the prices please

less handouts and a firm kick in the arse would do wonders. obviously addressing the usual suspects like education and training would help and also a minimum payment by all households for some tax. you can't leave it to the few and expect the same returns.

harsh words but maybe very true from my time here
  5. You can get as many 15 day entries as your passport will allow. Dont ever read thaivisa posts on visa rules etc as they will just confuse you and cause unnecessary fear.

Steve, the immigration at the border told me only 4 stamps so i almost have to believe him..I understand what you are saying about confusion though.
  6. My wife came to the UK for with a year visa. She managed about ten months, all in all she enjoyed it.She liked to sleep alot, watch tv.But the best thing which i advise you to do is connect to skype and i used to pay about 8 quid a month for unlimited calls to mobiles and phones any where in the world. That kept her busy calling all her friends and family.Be happy she is coming in the warm season.

Good luck and tell her to bring all her favourite foods in her suitcase.

  7. Mate after reading all of the posts, be strong and dont let that child leave the country.Ihave good experience with this but in Australia with a Japanese lady i married there. She took our daughter back to Japan as her mum was sick??????????

I have not seen my daughter for 7 years and once the child is out of your country its very hard to play fair ball.

If you want to be with your son dont allow him to leave.Let the misses wave knives and punch whatever.Buy her a ticket home alone and see how long the true love lasts.

Be strong if you love your son.

  8. To answer Alexander69's question, I was recently in Vientianne to apply for another double entry tourist visa. When I arrived at the Thai consulate building, I ran into a tout I had used in the past and the first thing he told me was that the visa application form I had downloaded from vientiane.thaiembassy.org was no longer valid as the wording on the back had changed. He had the new form and filled it out for me while I went and got my queue number. I gave him 100 baht and some chicken wings from the pizza restaurant nearby for doing that for me.

The next afternoon I returned to pick up my passport at about 1 pm and that was way too early. I don't think the consulate opened their gate after lunch break until around two or two-thirty in the afternoon by which time there was a sizable line of people standing in the hot sun waiting to enter. I had been biding my time at the outdoor (but under roof) restaurant across the street and used my tout to collect my passport for me while I nursed a beer and listened to the good music being played by a couple of dj's at the restaurant. When he returned with my passport, he told me that next time I would have to bring a new passport as I had reached the limit of 6 thai visas in my current one. I consider his information reliable.

So you have managed to achieve 6 double entry tourist visas. If so well done.

how much did you pay the tout to go in and pick up your passport while you relaxed with a beer lao
