  1. Yes, Chang entered the market in Bangkok in late 1996. I remember because I lost my job and I had just got married. Whilst in between jobs me and a friend purchased a box of big-bottle Changs (because it was the new beer on the town!) and drank the lot. I swear the hang-over was the worst in my life. Even until this day, I will only have a bottle or two. No more. Lethal.

    Try this:-

    1. Using your toothpick method mark, drill and plug one of the upper holes.
    2. Fix the beast using the one screw, not too tight, you just want to hold it.
    3. Then you should be able to spot through the opposite, bottom hole using a smaller drill (or the toothpick if you don't have a smaller drill).
    4. Remove the first screw and drill/plug the second hole.
    5. Fix the unit using the two holes you now have.
    6. Check it's level and in the right place and spot through the remaining holes.
    7. Drill and plug the remaining holes.
    8. Fix it all to the wall for the last time.

Great idea. Will try this. Thank you!

  3. Thank you so much with these responses. I think the easiest method is to purchase from Homepro a 3mm or 4mm drill bit and make a small initial hole using this. The template idea is great but I'm sure I'll make a balls up of it. The former idea seems a lot easier and I might make a success of it and show my wife that actually I do have some DIY skills! Cheers, everyone. Owe you a beer. C

  4. Hello. I am 48, from the UK and next month will apply for a one-year extension based on marriage. I have two questions about this process. I really appreciate any assistance. Thank you.

I have applied for the "one-year based on marriage" visa before, and previously used documents from my landlord, showing a yearly rental contract, copy of the landlord's ID card and house registration.

Thing is, now we have bought a house (in wife's name of course), so what documents do I/we need to take to Immigration (instead of those landlord documents)?

I'm presuming a copy of her ID card, the new house registration (showing her name). Anything else?

Also, another question..... I normally use 400,000 in the bank as evidence of funds. But this time (and for the first time) I will use the "40,000 a month" method and I already have the required letter from the embassy as evidence. But, is this sufficient on its own? Do I need to show other evidence of funds when I apply for the visa?

Thank you for any assistance. Really appreciated!

  5. Hello. Thank you so much for the info.

Yes, I'm drilling into tiles. Will use masking tape.

I think I understand the template idea. But could you kindly elaborate?

What do you mean "draw round the outside and mark the hole position then use this as a template". Draw round what exactly?

Sorry for my ignorance, but need all the assistance I can get!

    Cheers. C

  6. Please help. I'm rubbish at DIY but have purchased some tools including a drill.

So how do I go about drilling holes for this bathroom corner shelving unit (picture attached)? The holes in the unit are small and a long way from the wall itself so how on earth do I correctly mark the spot for drilling?

I've used a tooth pick with some ink to try to mark the spot for drilling but it's all over the place. Please help!

    Thank you. C

  7. I also have been here for a long time, about 20 years, and I have witnessed far too many Thai men fitting neatly to their stereotype. Decent Thai blokes are very hard to find. I find the basic problem, so many many times, is that they just don't respect other people. I know people can say this is wrong, but why do I continually see this?

  8. Hello. I am 47, from the UK, and looking to renew my one-year visa extension based on marriage to a Thai.

We have recently bought a house and my funds are low. I must renew my one year extension in September.

I don't think I will have the necessary 400,000 in the bank two months before I apply for the visa extension and I will try for the 40,000 a month option.

But what documents do I need to take to the UK Embassy to apply for this letter of confirmation? I don't work in Thailand but work freelance (one week in every month or so) in the region in countries including Malaysia, Korea, Indonesia, Singapore, etc. Obviously I fly back to Bangkok to live in between jobs.

What docs should I show at the embassy in order to obtain the letter of confirmation? Invoices? Would that work, or do they want bank statements too?

Any help would be really appreciated. Thanks.

  9. Oh where are all those TV members pleading for a military government? It makes me sick but I can remember them all now stating the need for this government when Yingluck was in power. These people didn't realise then that "corruption" was the word that was used by the military to brainwash people into believing the need for "reform" and "reconciliation". The truth is it was never about "corruption", never about "reform" and never about "reconciliation". It was all about sections of society ensuring that "the people" never get a chance to rise. That's all.

  10. My point on this. I married a "good" Thai girl in the early 1990s. She was a lawyer with degrees and a "good" family. What a nightmare that marriage was! We divorced more than a decade ago. I could take no more.

I then married a hooker from Pattaya. We have now been together for more than 10 years and married for five. She's not perfect (who is?) but she is miles miles better than my ex-wife in so many ways. We continue to live in Thailand and are as happy as ever.

You can look at "good" Thai girls and "bad" Thai girls from many angles. But my experience is that being a "good" girl doesn't mean you are necessarily good.
