  1. yes i already know KL can do it for 100k, but i would like to know the recent case at HCMC.

In April I got a multiple-entry "O" visa bsaed on Thai child at the Thai Embassy in Hanoi.

Initially they told me they only issue a single-entry unless you can present a letter from the Vietnam Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirming residency in Vietnam. However, I was able to show them a consultancy contract with a company in Hanoi which required several visits, and they accepted that. Don't know about the minimum financial requirements as was able to show over a million baht on deposit in Bangkok Bank.

  2. Forgot to tell: it is the personal income tax

the form from Germany is called: Non-EU/EEA Certificate of the foreign tax authority to the income tax return

No idea where to go in Bangkok.

The place you need to go is called the "District Tax Office".

Separate offices for each district, so it depends on what district you live in.

For example, in the lower Sukhumvit area south of Sukhumvit Road the office is in the Times Square Building (near BTS Asoke). On the other side of Sukhumvit the office is somewhere aon Sukkhumvit 11 or 13, I forget exactly where.

    So where are you ?

  3. If your liscence has already expired quite possible you will only get a 1 year liscence again this time.

Do you mean that if you have a 1 year license you shoul;d apply for the 5 year license BRFORE the 1 year licens expires ?

Other reports have said you have to wait until the first license expires.

  4. Gcorners does Nintendo DS repairs, might want to give them a try and see if they can fix it. They're in Century Movie Plaza at Victory Monument BTS exit 2, bottom floor. As for getting a new one all shops seem to be about the same price. Under 5000 for DS lite

    www.gcorners.com

thanks for the lead, I'll check it out.

Don't want to buy a new one if I can get it fixed.

followup : LCD screen replaced, cost 1000 baht, took only about 45 minutes !

  6. My son's Nintendo DS has died !

When it's turned on it just turns itself off.

I thought it mught be the battery, but testing with a new battery shows the same result.

Any place in Bangkok to get it repaired ? (I've already checked Fortune Town).

(If repair not possible, where's the cheapest place to buy a new one ?)

  7. Thank you all for the help and information. This takes a load off of my mind. I had visions of disaster! Good to know there are several Canadians here in Thailand. I have been here for 1 and 1/2 years and not yet meet another Canadian. Thanks again ... cheers

I just renewed my son's passport last month.

It now takes 3 weeks to process.

If you don't have a guarantor you need to fill out an additional form "Declaration in Lieu of Guarantor" and they now require 4 references (with addresses and phone numbers). Previously the requirement was 2, the change was effective just this month, i saw the notice when I went to pick up the finished passport. And it seems now they are much more strict - they even called up my boss and landlord (the 2 references I supplied) and asked them what do I look like ? what am I doing in Thailand ? how long have you known him ? Is he married ? etc. ). This in spite of the fact I have had 3 previous passports issued through the Bangkok office, and my son has had 2 previous passports.

So you'd better go pick up the forms yourself and find out for sure ! Embassy is located in Abdul Rahim Place building (15th floor) on Rama IV road opposite Lumpini Park. Go early (8am), they start work at 8:30 and there's usually a queue by then

  8. Talk to your neighbors and find out what they are using and go with the ISP that gives the least problem. Don't listen to some one that lives across town, the infrastructure can be entirely different and give different results.

I don't think you will have a choice if you are going to use an existing telephone line.

I tried to get MaxNet but when I went to ToT to try and arrange this they said it was not possible as my telephone line was part of True concession (although bill says ToT)

However. the True ADSL modem I had installed works fine, except for occasional slowness during peak usage periods. This is in lower Sukhumvit area.

  9. Next month I will be going to Hanoi for a month and will need to apply for a new visa for Thailand while I am there.

Anyone have any recent experiences with the Hanoi Embassy ?

Do they issue free double-entry tourist visas ?

What about non-immigrant O based on visiting Thai child ? What docs required ? Any chance for a multiple-entry ?

  10. Update : yesterday received 60-day extension at Chaeng Wattana based on visiting my Thai son.

This is what they wanted :

copy of birth certificate (my name as father, mother as "Teller of birth")

copy of mother's ID card (note : we are not officially married)

copy of house registration (pages for son and mother)

    copy of my passport

That's all, no request for bank info or other docs. Was on Non-immigrant "B" visa which was cancelled when job finished.

  11. I don't think you'd want to put your child in Thai schools, most of them of pretty bad except for a few "elite" schools.

Then there's the issue of teaching in English, practically non-existent in most Thai schools.

International schools are VERY expensive, but perhaps that's not an issue if your employer will pay the cost.

However, international schools have the downside of very little Thai instruction.

An alternative is some schools (mainly private) that have instruction in both Thai and English (for science, math, and English). Cost for these are reasonable - about 60,000 - 80,000 baht per semester.

  12. your house can be anywhere within a walking distance from the skytrain - a modest 3br you can get for some 20k/month on a yearly

Really ? Tell me where you can rent a 3br house near skytrain for only 20,000 !

You'd have to walk pretty far for that price - I'd day 40,000-50,000 minimum is more realistic.

  13. Why don't you use the 1-stop office at Chamchuri Square, 18th floor ?

Convenient location at the Samyan subway station.

Can be used by everyone, not just those whose WP/visa extension is handled through the 1-stop office.

I did it just this morning, it only took 10 minutes, much better than a trip to Chaeng Wattana where I have to go for extension

  14. Hi,

my child is registered in Bkk, but the mother is registered in the south.

This is not a problem, but you need to get the "blue book", the housing

    registration from Buriram.

We got it send by registered mail, and mail it back once we don't need it

    anymore.

No, the kid didn't need to be there.

You need to bring 1900,- Baht, but I guess you knew this.

    Thanks for the reply

One further question - who is on the birth certificate as "Teller of Birth" ? - is it the mother or you ?
