  1. I dropped an external USB drive, now it's gone flaky. It works for awhile, but when I try to copy large folders I get "delayed write" errors.I was using this for backups, but now it's unreliable.Anyway to salvage this drive ?I've already tried chkdsk (reported errors were fixed) and reformat, but same problem reoccurs.

  2. I'm on my last visa (expires next month) from a 1-year multi-entry "O" based on having a Thai son.

A few years ago I got a 60-day extension based on just the birth certificate (my name as father) and a request letter and copies of ID card & house registration from my son's mother (no marriage license). No proof of funds requested.

Will the above still suffice ? I can supply proof of funds (400,000 Baht ?) if necessary. What about requirements for 1 year extension ? Still need a "Bai Rapp Long Batt" (Certificate of Fathership) or Marriage License for that ?

  3. Corner of Soi 4.

    >>>> Yes

Next to Asia Books (just before Robinson)

    >>>> Not any more, for a long time

Soi 22? (around there 20/22/24) actually inside the Soi, not on Sukhumvit.

    >>>> Not as far as I know !

Is there still one just before Soi 23?

    >>>> Yes

  4. Myanmar is a member of ASEAN, so Thais do not need a visa for a short visit.

Americans probably do need a visa, but I've heard it may now be possible to get this on arrival.

I haven't been there in quite a while, but the main attractions in Yangon (Rangoon) are the Shwedagon Pagoda and the central market.

  5. If you have Yahoo Mail you automatically have Yahoo Messenger, and those messages could be from Spammers which they send through the Yahoo Messenger Application.

If you are logged into Messenger it looks like this

And if you are logged out it should likes this

    Please check

    Edit: //

Post # 2 shows how you to log out if you are logged in

How do you log out of messenger ?

I can't find this info in post#2 of this thread.

How can I set it so I am not logged in to Messenger when I log in ?

  6. to be fair if you had a legit copy there are ways to kill the authentication needed...there is no way i would shell out again

I don't want to MOVE my copy of windows to another PC.

I want to install an ADDITIONAL copy on another PC, and don't see why I need to buy another DVD when I already have one.

ALL I NEED IS ANOTHER LICENSE !

  7. If I were the programmer for BTS I would flag entering and exiting at the same station as suspicious and make the card-holder report to the office.

Perhaps you should try it and see what happens !

  8. Hi,

Windows volume licensing is available to users who own 5 computers or more, so it is indeed not possible and there is not much discount anyway. Microsoft does however have a special pricing policy for South east Asia, so you can buy at a very reasonable price.

    rolleyes.gif

What do you consider to be a reasonable price ?

I paid 4,200 Baht for my Windows 7 Home Premium version, best price I could find recently at Fortune Town, Prices at Pantip are similiar. OEM versions are available for about 1000 Baht less.

On its' own website Microsoft offers this for USD 119.99. So where's the discount ?

However, I ALREADY HAVE THE SOFTWARE, I JUST NEED ANOTHER LICENSE ! (sorry for the caps).

BTW I have seen downloadable copies of Win 7 Home Premium offered on US websites for as low as USD 70.

Will that version work here in Thailand ? Anyone tried this ?

  9. I have a legit copy of Windows 7 installed on my laptop.

Now I'd like to use the DVD to install on my desktop, so I only need a new license, not another copy of the SW.

I checked the website and this says I cannot use the DVD I have, but must purchase another box !

is that true ? Isn't there any way to buy a license on-line ? (Hopefully cheaper ?)

  10. Would be great if you could dontate them to House of Hope in Sangkhlaburi on the border of Myanmar.

You can look up the House of Hope Face Book page or you could actually call there and spek with the lady who runs it.

PM me and I cn send more info.

    Dan

I'm in Bangkok, anyone have any suggestions for local delivery (or even better, pickup) ?

  11. I cleaned out my son's closet and have many primary school textbooks, workbooks and other learning materials to donate to someone who could use them. They're in English and Thai, all in good condition.

Where can I take them ?

  12. I don't like the fact that this new card can be used at MacDonalds, etc.

I give my son a Smart Pass to use for going to school.

I don't want him to use it to buy junk food !!!!!!!!!!

So I'm keeping the old passes (stored value) as long as possible.

  13. I haven't been to Panthip in about six months, so this is from memory and things may have changed.

There was a place on the top shopping floor (I forget the numbers). Go to the back where you enter the labyrinth of repair and cheap junk shops,at the right-most entrance to the area facing the back of the building you'll see a well-lit (and respectable-looking smile.png counter with displays full of batteries, power supplies and replacement modules. I can't vouch for them myself.

My experience in buying replacement batteries is that the official ones are at least double the price of others. Then again, just because they charge you double doesn't mean you're getting the genuine article. Buyer beware.

Thanks for the directions. I easily found the place and bought a new battery for 2,400 Baht.

Yesterday I called the ASUS shop, but they couldn't tell me anything except the price (4,500 Baht), as it appears they don't have their inventory online (this for a computer manufacturer !). They promised to call back, which they did today, but said they don't have that model in stock anywhere in Thailand.

  14. I'd like to buy a new battery for my laptop (Asus model X8AIJ).

I know Pantip or Fortune Town will have what I want SOMEWHERE, but any recommendations for specific shops and their LOCATION ? Any idea of what it will cost ?

  15. Looking for recommendations of hotels near the Thai embassy in Phnom Penh..........

Also any info on requirements for multi-entry "O" visa, is it possible there ? I will be working intermittently in Cambodia and have family ("wife" and son) in Thailand. Can show employment contract requiring multiple visits, Thai son's birth certificate (but no marriage certificate), money in the bank, etc. That has sufficed before for multi-entry "O" in Hanoi and Colombo, but how strict is Phnom Penh ?

  17. No need to go to those expensive hotel restaurants for excellent Thai food and a great view of the river !

"Khinlom Chomsapan" is right on the river next to the Rama VIII bridge. That's the bridge with a single cable-stayed pillar in the middle, instead of two pillars on opposite banks Quite scenic at night when it's lit up. Outdoor seating, so evening is best on hot days. Excellent Thai food.

I've been there several times, with family and also in large groups (At one company where I worked It was a favorite for office parties).

The name is a bit of a pun, meaning something like "Eat wind, enjoy bridge".

It's a little bit hard to find if you're driving, but you can easily find it on Google Earth. See attached snapshot.

  18. ...

Concerns were raised about the safety of our daughter within the school, they now felt that the school would not be suitable.

    ...

I can't help but feel that something is still missing.

Were any reasons given for concerns about safety ?

I can't understand why they would turn down your money.

Does your daughter have any special needs or behavior problems ?

As for the Thai ladies verbal "waffling", this I can understand and although not unusual it's still unacceptable (to a farang).

  19. Tommy, my 3 year old is part of the summer camp and its been a delightful experience so far. Can you PM me as to what happened to where it escalated into a meeting? I'm new to this place as well, so I want to know if I should look out for anything. Thanks.

    Yes, Tommy, please elaborate !

After several meetings and referring to Dr Pin as a "charming Thai lady" suddenly your attitude changes, claiming "lies after lies", "stories changing by the minute", and "they would not or could not answer me", without providing any specifics.

    Something smells fishy !

  20. I don't think your problem is related to Office, it is Windows 7 that is the problem

Read this thread and I think you will be able to solve the problem.

    http://www.thaivisa....-old-hp-laptop/

Yes, it was a Windows file security setting problem - I granted full control to everyone and had no problem opening, editing and saving old files,

You would think Microsoft would produce an appropriate error message in cases like this ?????
