  1. I am Just starting applications for settlement for my Thai wife and her Daughter (my step daughter).

pretty much the first question on the site is:

Am I applying myself or am i applying for someone else .

Do i select myself as it is essentially it is her (My wifes ) application and i am filling it in for her .(she dosn't read or write English that well)

then do i need to open another account with them for the Daughter or just select on the bar at the top Apply for someone else , as she is only 5 and unable to do it herself .

I know its probably obvious to most people but not me , its not explained that well .

    Thanks for any help .

  2. Hi I have similar situation .

I am hoping to apply in the next week or so . But I am waiting until I have my tax return and SA302 from this financial year ie ending on the 5th April 2014 . And all my related bank statements , Acounts that must be either audited or acompanied by a charted accountants letter of authentication . All the stuff must relate to the year you are relying on for the meeting the limit/requirement .

Does yours ? if not maybe that's why they have put you on hold ?

From what i understand .any applications that fail on the finances only will be put on hold . and in the event that when a decision on the apeal about the limits set by the government is made . it maybe that they can then change your decision.

ie they scrap the limit and the new stringent rules ( I doubt that myself ,only that the limit may be lowered ). so this may not help . But it does depend on why yours does not meet the requirements . Is it just paper work or is it the actual figures .

Others much more knnowledgable than me will tell you to post the letter from UKBA .and hopefully they will be able to help .

You have my sympathy , Its a nightmare for most people , but i think for the self employed its even worse .

Good luck in getting it sorted .

See Section 3.4 Evidential Flexibility of the financial appendix.

Can anyone comment on the SA302 from HMRC either an Online printout or do i need an Original from them posting out .

I think Tony M suggested i could put in the application with a printout and wait and see if they request an original . My big worry is that it gets declined and I loose the fees but even worse I have to go through the big wait to be united with my family again . .

Thanks for the Link but I am still not much clearer , I could end up in a few categories there .
    3.4.5. E
submit a copy As I will be in Thailand on the 6th April I cannot (I think ) ask HMRC to post me an original . (but the truth would be that I could probably get someone to visit my house every day waiting for the mail , open it all until they find the SA302 original and then post it out to Thailand towards the end of April . as long as it makes it over in the post DHL etc OK then I could submit my application.

Or do i go with an online copy and hope it is ok and if not , hope they ask for the original as it is at there discretion to do so . which will hopefully have made the journey described above .

Difficult decisions to make . GRRRRRR why is it never straight forward .

  4. Thanks 7 by 7 . I am as certain as i am about anything that it is on the list . all be it the very last one on the list . But their where lots of people in Manchester on the day of the exam and they all where doing it for settlement Visas .

But that's great information I will let her know she may get some resistance from VFS staff.

That English test certificate should be fine and also for a subsequent FLR applications.

It's just about the minimum / easiest / cheapest / quickest one to obtain and is why it's so popular.

Thats me cheap ! and easy ! :)

It was very easy and it was one of the reasons we chose it , they have a good online demo of different candidates taking the test and that video realy helped my wife relax a bit . she is terrified about any kind of test , god knows how she will be if and when we get t the ILR stage and the test is really difficult .

    Thanks again

  6. Thanks to both of you , it looks like my hopes for the timings will work out , one worry is that the weekend following the 6th April is Songkran and I really would prefer to get the application in before so I don't get caught up in the mass migration to and from Bangkok and the sooner the decision will be made the better . Its Awful been away from my Wife and children.

Regarding the English test my wife took the Trinity college London test while she was in the UK and she was awarded "a grade 2 Entry level certificate in ESOL International A1 of the CEFR" that was as we where assured by them at the time what she would require for a settlement visa . I know its not the usual one that most Thai's take . So I hope it will be ok .

  7. Thanks Ginglee ,I am hoping i can otherwise both my applications will fail . I have called HMRC and they say i can print them off the screen . I hope this will be ok for the purpose of my visa applications . I am guessing that a mortgage company/bank would request original documents as they have no way of checking if they are true or not . But again I am guessing that UKBA have a direct line to HMRC and can easily check they are correct and not fakes . I have not seen anywhere on the applications or the guidance notes that they must be original documents , and i have had a response from this sites sponsor saying they believe that is the case .

If anyone knows if this is true or not I would really appreciate it .

  8. regarding my wife and stepdaughters settlement visas for the UK (We) are hoping to apply online very soon, we then want to book an appointment at VFS for early April 8 or 9th . but I will not have the last peice of my supporting evidence SA302 tax document from HMRC which I plan to print from online but cannot get this until after 6th April when it has been filed online .

    My questions are ;

    1. Will it be ok to fill the online application in before i have all the supporting documents as mentioned above .

    2. Will I be able to book an appointment with only a few days notice after i have the SA302 or should i chance it and book the appointment a few weeks in advance hoping the document is in my possession before we go , as I guess I could always cancel and rearrange the appointment if we don't have it by then .

    3. How soon would it be sensible to apply with any changes possibly due to be announced some time in March

    many thanks ...

  9. Good luck Busy bee , I like your letter . To the point , strong but not rude . I hope that it is received quickly and dealt with even faster . I will be interested how it turns all out . I had a good experience with the British Embasy after they put the wrong date on my wife's visit visa last year and we went back they stamped cancelled on that one and 20 mins later I was on my out with a new visa inside . only a couple of emails and a telephone call to arrange this . So I am sure you should be able to get get it sorted pretty quick .

    All the best .

  10. Yes thanks Tony , I have already had a long wait for a reply from them regarding the same line of questions , I am almost certain you are right about them being emailed to accountants .

I will send them an email and ask anyway as I do have time to wait. unfortunately .

I am p@@@ssd off that i have to wait until april before i can apply I have already hit the financial requirement in my last financial year . but it seems that I can only apply once i have this document which i understand is only available after the tax year ends on the 6th of April .(this is why i feel selfemployed are third class citizens employed only have to submit 6 months wage slips )

I do understand why it is this way . until the Tax return is in .and an SA302 is available no concrete proof of earnings are available to the UKBA .Its a long wait though when you have family away from you watching your children grow up over skype is not nice .

Thanks again for your reply . I will update the post if and when i get confirmation from UKBA .

In the meantime if anyone else selfemployed has done this last year i would be gratefull of your views !

  11. I had this experience last year even though i made it very clear we wanted the visas to start on a certain date I even stapled a peace of paper with this info on inside the passport ,with some of it sticking out of the top with the info including the date we requested it to start from written on again on both sides so it was impossible to not see it . it came back with the date of issue AND NOT the required date . I complained to British Embassy and they agreed to reissue it , I had to go back to Bangkok with it but I thought it was good of them to change it .

    Good luck anyway

  12. Hello all

I am wondering if anyone knows the exact nature of the evidence i will need to submit for my wifes and daughters UK settlement Visa . particularly the SA 300/SA302 .ie on line copy's ,printouts or actual originals .

It does not make it clear on anything i have read so far (except the usual submit originals wherever possible). i would hate to fall at this stage when it as been a massive uphill struggle already .

From reading all the UKBA blurb and some realy helpfull replys from this site I think i have got an idea as to most of it BUT..

Will they accept a print out from my online self assesment statement of account That I believe is the SA302 or SA 300 that is asked for .

I am trying to apply the closest time possible after the 6th of april . And after speaking to the tax office it seems this is avilable to print online as soon as is submitted .ie 6th April.

But it takes the tax office 3 days to process it .( 9th April but the tax office says it will look exactly the same as the submitted one just that they have actiualy processed it by then .)

If i want printed a copy from them sent in the post then i would have to wait until they get around to it about" 2 or 3 weeks ".

It just fits our plans to do it as early as possible , I am separated from my wife and kids already and every day is torture . I hoped to be in Thailand for my daughters birthday but this would not be possible if i wait until i have an original from HMRC. I feel self employed people are the 3rd class citizens as far as UKBA are concerned. but that is for another post . .

    Can anyone help ?

  13. Sanitsuk, idlejohn , 7 by 7 ....Maybe you are all right ,My experience last year getting a Schengen for my wife for travel to Greece while my wife was in the UK on a Visitor visa ,
The Greek embassy in Bangkok kept insisting I had Air tickets for travel to Greece , I could not get legitimate ones , I did not know when we would be traveling. it was work, and availability dependent . maybe we would not even go . so to have airline tickets was not possible . We where told to book some in a local travel agents and just get a reservasion , but it would have been a sham . I insisted they should give us a visa as it was my right .I did give details of family we would be staying with inc name address , tax details etc,etc . I honestly think they cold easily have declined us regardless of my insistence . If it was not for my 2 cute children in the waiting room maybe we would not have got them .

It should be a bit more cut and dried . but usualy people are running around Bangkok , with all sorts of worrys on there minds , getting Schengen Visas for hollidays ,is just another headache . MFA translations etc, etc . Nothing is easy .

For me we where glad (if not a little lucky )we did it .

Good luck which ever way you do it , please get back on Thai Visa and let us all know if you manage your trip or not .

  14. Thanks to all who responded to my post .My wife while i was worrying about taking the night bus was making plans to get on the night bus and is now on her way home on the night bus from Bangkok. She took the test today and had interview with my daughter they had completed everything by about lunchtime . She had to take another member of the family to take care of the baby while they tested my wife (that was a request from the appointment line ) .

They told her she passed not sure if she has cert or not .

Makes me think she could have got away with doing it the same day as the Visa application at VFS .

No problems with Protests etc !

  15. Thanks O G . The danger is one thing , statistically probably its more likely we will win the lottery , but still worrying when its my family and I am on the other side of the globe . But the other problem is will they be able to physicaly get there . The Clinic etc will be able to advise her when she makes the appointment .

I am very annoyed with myself as at Xmas we where all in close to Bangkok and some forward planning we could have changed our plans a little and possibly got this sorted then . But I have had too much other stuff on my mind and I was concentrating on hitting the financial requirements .And I was thinking at that time we would not be applying before April .I have Just got to put my best foot forward and get on with it all now

I will update this post when we have it sorted .

  16. Thanks Mandlebrot, ,Its nice to have confirmation they definitely need to both go to the clinic . And a nice reminder that the child doesn't need to attend the Visa application center even though we do have to book an appointment at the time of application . ( I realized this on the Visitor visa last year we took her but they never even looked over the counter at her .But if you hadn't mentioned it i would have sent her down to Bangkok again ).

Any body got any views on how dangerouse it is in the Area of the clinic / hospitals they will have to visit for the TB test during the current troubles ? It seem to be getting more frightening every day ?

  17. Hi all , Looking at the UKBA website it appears they expect my wife and step daughter to travel to Bangkok for TB test for my wife and an interview for the step daughter who is 4 years old .

can anyone confirm that my stepdaughter has to do this ?

The cost of the air fair and the hassle / time off school etc is the problem and especially at the moment with all the trouble in Bangkok .I don't really want my wife doing the overnight bus run as we also have a newborn UK/THAI baby that will have to travel with her .

So flying looks the safest option.
Has Anyone got any advice about where the hospitals are and how safe it is in that locality at the moment ?

    Thanks
