  1. As stated previously, I wasn't issued the non-o in Savannakhet, so with the TV, I flew to Bangkok, went to CW. With 20 minutes left to lunch break, I was called in. The IO crunched some numbers and I was approved. I signed the documents and she started putting the information in the computer then suddenly she realized that my address was Ubon. She apologized profusely, saying that I had to go apply there.

Sirindhorn was more difficult. Immigration will send applications to KhonKaen for approval. I was using the combination method. The IO I was dealing with had never seen the combination way, she said. The difficulty was that my bank book showed some cash amount deposited, when I first opened the account. Some amount was withdrawals from ATM. They wanted proof of that. Also, they wanted documents to show the source of my monthly income stating in the Affidavit. That was my SS payment plus Pension. I couldn't provide that.

My options are: 1. Going back to CW, either using a friend's or a hotel's address. My thinking is that, since I am on a TV, I can move around, having different addresses. Can I use a hotel's address where I stay a couple of days when I am in Bangkok?

    2. Going to Penang. I read somewhere in here that it was not difficult to obtain a non-o there. Could anyone confirm?

    3. Going to Vientiane with the medical paper and police clearance. This is my last option. Don't want to deal with the extra paperwork.

    4. Apply in the US. I will be there in September. Do Embassy and Honorary consulates issue Non-o (not non-O.A), 90 days visa? According to the IO in Sirindhorn, they do. What are the requirements for getting it?

    Thanks

  2. This contrasts to the post last week who claimed he was denied after being told they would not be issuing any O Visas based on retirement anymore. I'm thinking he did not have his ducks in a row.

I was there last Monday applying for the non o based on retirement as I have posted. I had all the paperwork in order. My income affidavit was attached with the application but the guy at the window just took a look at the application then just flat out said "no, we don't give it here, you have to apply for it in your country". That was the exact wording. He did not say "not anymore" Now this week they gave it. So inconsistent.

  3. This morning I applied for a Non-O based on Retirement and it was denied. I had the US embassy affidavit, that didn't help. They said that I could only obtain that from the US. The person at the window might have mixed up with the Non-OA, I think. I asked if the Thai embassy in Vientiane would give the non-o, he said "no, we follow the same guidelines" but he offered to give me the Tourist visa instead, minus the plane ticket and the financial proof. I couldn't refuse. I was warned by the people who did my paperwork in front of the embassy that nothing was concrete anymore as far as the visa regulations is concerned.

  4. hmmm....Vientiane is indeed boring beyond belief..... however there is one major plus.... Beer Lao....a very nice beer of high quality which seems to contradict most of Laos( it is a very poor, deliberately run down country it appears)....however thats a different story

FYI, Laos is a third world country, don't expect Vientiane to be like Bangkok.

  5. To apply for a Extension based on Retirement, is one bank account sufficient or I need two Saving accounts to satisfy the requirements.

What I meant was two Saving accounts from two different banks, one is for the Extension application and one is for show as a mean of living expenses. I rather have just one. When I apply for the non-O single entry, do I need to have the full amount (i.e. 800,000 baht for example) at the submission of the application or I can wait until I apply for the Retirement extension. Thanks.

  6. > If you already have two back to back double entries from Savannakhet will he be able to apply for a double entry in Vientiane ?

    When?

    If it's after November 13,

he may get the surprise of no more 2-entry visa available.... (maybe, see METV topics)

Does this mean that if I go to Savannakhet and apply for a TR with 2-entry two days before the 13th, I still have a chance to obtain it?

  7. You do your extension solely on the 800k deposited in the account?

Do you have a regular income/pension in your homecountry?

Which office does your extension, where?

Knowing this helps to answer because members from different offices here have different experiences.

Some offices simply don't ask anything more than the bankbook.

Others are nitpicking and want to see how the money comes from abroad.

Its all about proof that you don't work/earn money in Thailand.

If at all they ask for "what do you live on?" then ATM withdrawl slips should be good enough.

Do copies of the slips as they deteriorate quickly and get unreadable.

If possible go early for the application (30 days) to find out if they want to see something extra (maybe account statements/withdrawls from your home country).

I am planning to use the combined method to apply for retirement extension. Yes I have income from social security benefits and pension which are directly deposited into my US bank account. Once in Thailand, I intend to withdraw from ATM and make deposit to an account here to meet that required fund. I guess I will do my extension at CW like most TV members are doing right? I don't think I can apply in Phiboun.

You should consider opening an account at Bangkok Bank. You could transfer your funds to your account via their New York branch as a domestic transfer. See: http://www.bangkokbank.com/BangkokBank/PersonalBanking/DailyBanking/TransferingFunds/TransferringIntoThailand/ReceivingFundsfromUSA/Pages/ReceivingFundsfromUSA.aspx through ACH.

Thank you for the info UbJ. My problem is doing the transferring from my bank to any other banks, including those in the US. As I said earlier, it can only be done through paperwork, not by electronic means. I can have Social Security benefits deposit directly to Bangkok bank as you said but I don't want to go that route, not yet this time.

  8. I applied for a retirement extension at Phibun a few weeks ago.

Had 800,000/ baht in a SCB account for about 6 months.

    I had a multi non-O visa.

Was asked what I had been living on, as SCB account untouched.

Had to show another bank book, KTB, which I use to live on, money being transferred from UK.

If the OP is in Ubon, he should go down to Phibun and ask what they require.

That is what I did a few weeks before applying for the extension.

Hi. Yes I will be living in Ubon, actually 25km from there. I will fly in early November and get the visa exempt at entry. Later on when I am ready, I will go to Vientiane to get a Non O for retirement. Based on what you said above, I don't have to go to CW, Bangkok to apply for the retirement extension. I didn't know that it can be done in Phibun. This will be better without having to go to Bangkok.
