What are current US Expats using for health insurance coverage when traveling back to the US for short visits (less than 6 months)?
The typical global health insurance that includes US coverage is typically very pricy and would be overkill for an occasional trip back to the US to visit friends and family.
A related question would be for those over 65, if Medicare (just the standard Medicare) is enough as emergency coverage for these trips? Or are there other/better suggestions.
Living in Thailand, the plan is that all of my regular medical needs will be done in Thailand (via local health insurance coverage) but when I travel out of Thailand I would look to have travel health insurance to cover any emergencies while traveling to any destination. Though I read there are complications for US Expats simply getting a short term travel health insurance when visiting the US (is this correct?).
Appreciate any light the experts and current US expats can shed on this subject.
Thank you.
