  1. I recently had to get some Thai official documents translated to English for some business in Australia. I have struggled with this problem of translation for ages but have found a website that provides a list of all NATTI registered translators. NATTI is the official standard that is accepted by all Oz government organisations. The good part of this list is that there is a local Thai lady that can do all your translations with a minimum of fuss and it can all be done via the internet and a scanner.

  2. I am trying to setup a transfer of money from my Australian Bank to my Thai Bank, normally I use Wise but have decided to try direct from my NAB Bank to one of my Thai Banks.

In setting up the receiving bank details using my online Aus Bank account I would like to know what address for the Thai Bank to put in. My Thai Bank is in Robibnson in Surin so, do I put down the head office address and the Thai Bank Swift code for that office? I do not know my local banks branch code.

I am worried that if I send the money to head office I will be charged a transfer fee to send it to Surin.

Kasikorn (or an intermediate bank) used to charge a fee when I transferred with OFX. I now transfer through my Australian bank and SWIFT with no fees either end. But my transfers are larger and infrequent.

Which Bank mate? I'm with National and use Wise for my monthly transfers of around $AU6,000. I have the option of doing a larger transfer every 3 months or so, perhaps I should look at using my bank. How much do you bring in each transaction?

    Thanks.

  4. The murder happened around the corner from my place and there are several discrepancies. The perp had only been out of prison for a day, she wanted money from her brother to buy Yaba, the brother refused and he's now dead. The victim had been a monk at our local temple for at least 10 years and only recently left to help his and the perp's mother who was bedridden.

Another victim of the drug epidemic.

Yes, those cold cases where they find some small piece of DNA which couldn't be matched before.

They were married, so DNA isn't going to cut it.

New witnesses after all this time? Circumstantial at best.

Unless they have something on video of course.

I read in the Australian press that the Major had tried to access another death insurance policy that was knocked back, he benefited from one other policy but failed with the second. I also read that new botanical science is being used as evidence.

Yes. I think local level will be the place to go.

    thanks for the info.

I really don't understand why the English Army is making this request and, as a consequence, slowing up your son's application. Have you called them out on this? My knowledge of the Thai conscription method is that your son would need to be living in Thailand at the time of his conscription and have an address where the papers can be sent. Your son has neither so just forget about it provided the UK Army can.

  7. My son is in a similar situation. He is in the final stages of joining the Australian Army. He has passed all interviews and assessments and is just waiting for his enlistment date. He was born in Thailand and has lived here for 16 of his 19 years. Fortunately he did 3 years through his High School of the Territorial Defence Program which is run by the Thai Army with his school. It is basicaly being an Army scout, he went on training camps and various other tasks. Completing this service exempts him from the conscription process and the Aus Army has not asked for any proof of this.

This information probably does not help you but, I have learned that the conscription process is handled at a local level and I suggest your wife should start making inquiries about this at her Amphur. We are in a rural village in Surin Province and my wife has been dealing at the local level with the Army.

  8. I may be wrong but you probably have osteo arthritis like me in my right knee. I have seen a few different specialists about it and had most of the cures from Mobic pills to injections. I have seen several ortho surgeons and it's just a merry go round of advice. You could probably find the best advice online as, short of a knee replacement, you will go through lots of appointments and lots of meds. What age are you and had you had any previous damage to the knee? Over the course of 45 years I had 3 arthroscopic operations on my knee and it is now nearly bone on bone in the joint. I'm 70 and am not interested in a huge operation and rehab period getting a new knee so I am managing it with Tiger Balm, exercise and pain killers.

    Wise getting very tiresome really.

Got another payment initiated yesterday at 7pm, and received the email they had received the money, and that it would be in my account at 10am.

That has since changed to 11:10am and now  to 12:20am.

I think it's time to start using a more reliable service

Like who? I'm open to any opinions on the next best service. I think I'm experiencing some problems with speed of delivery this morning through Wise, still waiting and it's been 2 hours.

That would be a fairly dumb move...................do you think other banks will notfollow suit?

Not really as I outlined in my reply, if you read it fully instead of jumping straight in to bash a contributer, I have other options and said Bank was failing in other areas of service. Don't know why you want to go off topic just for the pleasure of attacking someone and clogging up the topic with <deleted> comments.

  11. I'm Australian, live in Thailand have a K Bank account and also received this very annoying and confusing email. I also have accounts with other banks and received nothing like this from them. The Forms all appear to reference the US fairly regularly in their questions so, hopefully, it's just aimed at US citizens.

I may cancel my K Bank account as, since I have opened accounts with other banks, found that I prefer to use them.

I believe an applicant for a Thai passport needs to be 20 years old before one will be issued without evidence of parental consent. My wife and I both had to sign for our daughter's renewal passport when she was 18.

Same daughter traveled to the US by herself at age 17 without parental consent documents without issue.

I traveled to the US via Europe with another daughter who was 16 at the time and was never asked for paperwork.

At last an answer to my simple question without going off sprouting irrelevant crap that I already knew. Thanks.

You really should have remedied this years ago, as even small differences can cause problems. In this case could be a problem for your son, but especially could be for your wife as both documents are issued by Thai authorities. You need to get this rectified. I am speaking from experience in this type of document mistake.

He has done 3 trips to Australia using the same details as I outlined, first being in 2006, second in 2009 and third in 2019. Your comments are not relevant to my question.

Bit of incorrect info there. Thai citizens can obtain Thai passport at any age...not only at 18.

eg: my daughter obtained her first passport at 6 mths old when we travelled.

Read  what I said, I had to be present or sign a form when he got his first, second and third Thai passport as I was a parent. It's the same if you apply for a passport for your child from your home country, the mother has to sign/agree etc on a form. I got his first Thai passport when he was 6 months too but had to sign a form or be present to sign the form. I was told as the passport office at Buriram that he was not considered an adult until 19 so I had to agree/sign for his passport as his father.

Not at all. I flew with 14 y.o.

Just out of curiosity: In both passports he has same name and surname, right?

There is a slight variation in his christian name, namely the English version uses his first initial as a Ch and his Thai version has it as J. Same as my wife's different versions of her first name in Thai, her ID card has W insted of V and her passport has a V. Go figure?
