When we moved to Thailand from the US we shipped a 60foot shipping container, packed with everything we could think of
that we might need in Thailand, shipped it in the wifes name, with packing list, conainter was never opened ,still had the seal
that was put on the container in the states, and was shipped right to our door step, had to put a 50000TB deposit down which was returned
once the container was returned to the shipper
we paid no duty on the whole container
my wife is Thai

if you have a thai wife ship it in her name,we shipped a 60ft container from the east coast to Thailand cost was $2000.00us
customs didn't even look in side,we had to put a 50,000TB deposit down for the container, which was unloaded at our door step
when the container got back to Bangkok,we received our 50,000TB deposit back

you know what she's thinking "I wonder if this will fit"
-
sence your son is still in school, and "young" a motor bike is the way to go,you can buy a new motor bike for under 50,000T/B
then when he's older move up to a car
-
that way if it rains, they say "see we told you it would rain"
-
don't buy nothing 2nd hand, the thai's don't service their cars or motorbikes, when it dies they buy a new one
but if you buy from an expat its most likely its been taken care of
just my 25stang worth
