I have been there and it is nice and the people are real Thai folks that live off the land. There used to be a boat that took you to a Hawaiian resort and it disappeared, There are a few villages on the way that make those cool baskets-brooms and purses too.

Cool video, Brian
Was this pic taken in Chantaburi? If so, whereabouts? Last time I drove the coastal route I saw nothing like this...
That's Kung Wiman, where the bend of water meets heaven on earth.

Looks like good place to slowly die... a long way from anywhere. Hope you have at least one good hobby if retired.
Beats quickly dying in the city! Who doesn't have many hobbies after exiting the workforce?? Start living and quit worrying about death.

I live in Kung Wiman, we have natural aquifers and artesian springs everywhere. Even on top of a mountain right next to the sea. Many locals live off the land and ocean here and several rare and local herbs and plants only available here. The Thai govt. has put many baht into the scenic Burapha chondilite road for bikers and cars that goes from Rayong to Trat. The mangroves are around although the shrimp farms have intruded much of it. Some surf in season and good diving. But the food, especially seafood is the very best! I search the many small peaks for ruby and sapphire, there is a working mine 5 clicks away. The people are very nice and I have more Thai friends then farangs now. I go squid fishing, and for king mackerel during season and the jungles have many feral chickens that fly and the locals use slingshots to down them. The nok kapow is of a green dove-pigeon that is common in the hills. In 5 years time, I have seen much progress and the Bangkok Thai's hit the beaches every weekend and holiday. For ATV's and dirtbikes it is an amazing playground and the major rains make it even more fun. Lot's of big and small snakes and scorpions and centipedes and that huge beetle that buzzes when it flies. Anything you plant here takes off with a vengeance. Cheers

Hat lek is in Trat province and Poipot is in Sa Kaeo, why are you going there, as Ban Laem is way way closerJust forgot to mention about the border run. There are two options. Either Hat Lek or Poipet. I personaly prefer Hat Lek because it is not too busy.
Edit: Just noticed that gomangosteen beat me to it by a Mile

Thailand is going to lose what tourism they have left if they start demandig fingerprints from foreigners entering the country. I know in many countries it is a violation of rights to take fingerprints unless accused of a crime and many people will feel violated if it is demanded here.
Thailand better find a new source to get foreign dollars to be spent here
Yeah, those that have something to hide will be very violated, from their own violations. I think they should get DNA too and stop the criminals from coming here to do their crimes.

I disagree with this proposed law. It's really simple... If you don't work you don't eat. If you work for someone, then your only going to have what they are willing to pay you. So do it or go hungry.
There are no free rides in life.
Local Douche would be a more truthful name!

Those who dislike the soi dogs, haven't been alerted to the serpents by them. One dog we have is a natural born snake killer. Yes we have had the banded kraits on several occasions. Keep the frogs and rodents out and the snakes won't bother you.

Time for the baht busses.

Turtles and fish that eat the jellyfish are over-fished and die from eating the plastic bags idiots throw in the sea. Warmer waters and lack of predators, time for some jelly fish recipes and overfish them like everything else. .

They were taught to take off only. Landing was not an option.

You have to drain the pool once a year. The stabilizer keeps the chlorine from being dissipated by the sun. I use small amounts of chlorine and use an ozone machine to go into the homemade venturi that adds air bubbles to the return water. I also have soda ash to keep the ph high and towards alkaline, purple. Much less bacteria in the alkaline and much less chlorine is needed. I use stone aerators with a small compressor to introduce oxygen to the water. The pool smells fresh and clean.

Don't you see that the Thai's are trying to keep the illegal worker out, and rightfully so. Look what cheap labor and illegal people have done to the USA. If you have your papers, you have nothing to worry or gripe about. I personally know of two undesirables who have been booted out.

Just print more money, give as perks and all the political crooks are happy.

Is that the famous Thai smile I see on the guy making the face palm on the left ?
I picked up on that too. A kinda cat eating shit grin, or a shagrin?

These reports seem the same as always.
They raise more questions than they answer.
But it just seems to be the way here.
I ask my wife a few questions, simple ones on the bits and pieces that I didn't catch with my limited Thai.
The normal straight forward person would ask these questions in a given situation but there is just no answer.
If I persist I am bad. Yes maybe its just my wife but the news items are the same.
Why does the news not say that the official was asked but said no comment? At least we may then be able to have some respect for their intelligence.
Life goes on
My wife too, is no Sherlock Holmes, but she is very blissful. Ignorance is bliss they say. She gets in a state of suspended animation on some very core questions. Translation not explainable.
Now she is into Facebook and needs help with English spelling and I turn into the zombie.

Not being a welfare state helps. And not having so many credit cards that are rampant in the west, helps people live within their means. Children are still the IRA's here for the old people.

Yes, the greedy well-connected ripped out half the mangroves in order to set up filthy, destructive, polluting ( but extremely lucrative) shrimp farms.
Back in 93 and recently, shrimp disease has caused heavy die-offs in the industry, a sign of trouble for large scale shrimp industry. I saw many farms sit idle last year. They build more roads with the fill of the new shrimp farms so they can exploit further areas. Used to be a rare Fish Cat, a bobcat like mammal , but now almost wiped out. -
Like California, the rivers are being cemented and no natural flow of sand to replenish. The mangroves have been eliminated and damaged severely too. Imagine if the gulf had constant large surf like the Pacific, this would be the end of all beaches and just cement drop-offs, such as you will be seeing more of in the future.

I thought you were talking about the 3.03 cal Enfield.

My boy was born with a double vsd. The septa is the wall separating both chambers of the heart, much like the wall between both of our nostrils. The surgeons have to patch and sew up the tiny holes so scar tissue will form and patch the holes. Usually the doctors let it heal on it's own but the size, number and location dictate surgery.

stop all trade as well
Yes, I suppose that would be one's feeling....IF one believes that the current pro-Palestinian propaganda is 100% factual, with no distortions of the truth or outright lies. And, IF one ovelooks the stated goals and historical methods used by each to attain their stated goal.
I, personally, have greater ease in believing Israeli statements as to their intentions, motivations and "what really happened" than I do in believing a sources within a Palestinian government currently headed by President Mahmoud ABBAS who has no political rival, and who to all intents and purposes, is a Yassir Arafat in a suit and tie! Follow that with the accompanying powerful influence of, and likely successor HAMAS parlimentarian Aziz Dweik, who apparently under "Palestinian basic law" is stipulated to be ABBAS's successor in the event of his being unfit or unable to carry out his duties. (see: http://www.foreignpolicy.com/articles/2013/04/19/slow_death_palestinian_democracy_fayyad_abbas), and perhaps you can understand why I am more liable to believe that many of the photos and video clips proclaiming atrocities allegedly commited by Israelis, are staged events, specifically designed to inflame anti-Israeli public feeling.
HAMAS is an organization whose sole goal is the "destruction and erradication of Israel". It is an organization designated by the United States, Canada, the European Union, Jordan , Egypt and Japan as a terrorist organization, while others, such as Iran, Russia, Turkey and China as well as many Arab nations claim them to be non-terrorists in spite of their tactics! Whatever you believe them to be, they openly state their sole goal is the total destruction and erradication of Israel. They have shown themselves to be absent of any morality by way of their historical terroristic tactics of plane hi-jackings, suicide bombings (in many cases using children as the 'bombers") in civilian locations (the more densely populated, the better, locations that included schools and playgrounds) and the continued rocket attacks which replaced suicide bombings after 2007-08 (but only AFTER it became apparent that to continue these suicide attacks would be to bring absolute condemnation from their own people as well as the world!)
ISRAEL is a UN recognized and democratically ruled country whose sole goal is "peace within their borders" Name me one instance of Israel carrying out a plane hijacking, a suicide bombing or a rocket attack, provoked or unprovoked, on any area other than an area from which unrelenting attacks designed to intimidate, demoralize and kill as many of the Israeli populace as possible have been and continue to originate!!
The populace of the Gaza Strip, occupied, governed and used by HAMAS as a launching area for its unapologetic and unrelenting war on Israel are undeniably victims. But just who is their oppressor AND the root cause for their sad plight? HAMAS gets my vote 100%!! Which is why I continue to align myself on the side of Israel while at the same time hoping that a solution to the continued victimization of both Israel and Palestine can be discovered.
Is it possible that you have similar hopes? If so, is it possible that any such hopes would be better realized through convincing all countries that HAMAS is a terrorist organization and therefore not deserving of any direct or indirect support?
When a terrorist act happened, as in 9-11, why did the Palestinians crowd the streets in celebration???? Take out the pal from Palestine after that for me.

My kid is into the GTA-V and it's all he will talk about. Now it's online and he goes ape daily. He is sucking the bandwidth from my own addiction- WORLD of TANKS.
The slowed down internet has made my game stats go down and now i get my tanks blown up often. We both are hopelessly addicted to our games and fight with the mom to keep playing.
I played WOT 6 months ago, just one game and i got hooked. Now i am down to a couple hours daily, but i get up in the middle of the night to play silently, and with the full bandwidth on weekends.
I suppose we both will get burned out but i see/feel the power these game addictions have on people. Gotta go and get my fix now.
