  2. Recently discovered Pan's Furniture at Sathorn Soi 9. It is located beside Aqua Spa Massage and actually very easy to find once, you are in Soi 9.

The owner, is a Danish guy and very knowledgeable and helpful. They restore the beautiful old furniture and he always has good prices. Definitely worth stopping by there, very trustworthy and fantastic service. :o

  3. Why is it so tough to find some decent (OK looking/Modern/reasonable price) furniture in Bangkok?

There is for some weird reason no IKEA here? Why not? and the Habitat is overpriced and the staff is totally ignorant..... Can anyone PLEASE help me find some furniture IKEA/Habitat style somewhere in Bangkok, preferable a place with a website soI can SHOP- PAY - and they deliver. Spending money is so HARD!

    P.S.

I actually went to habitat at Siam Square but the habitat staff told me that since I wanted so many different things :o I should go to their website instead an do the order on-line.... tried that. no luck. Simply cant believe it :D

Am I really the only one with this issue?

    Cheers

    S

P.S. Great business opportunity.... open the very first IKEA in Thailand!

The best place to buy fantastic restored old furniture is PAN'S Furniture, beside Aqua Spa Massage Place in Sathorn Soi 9. The owner, Ole, a Danish guy is very knowledgeable and helpful and they restore antique furnitures as well and have a nice selection. Wouldn't buy furniture anywhere else

  4. The airline was formerly known as Cambodian International Airlines. Orient Thai ceased scheduled operations on 9 January 1998, but continues to operate charter services on behalf of Kampuchea Airlines. Scheduled operations have since been restarted. It is wholly owned by private Thai shareholders and has 820 employees (at March 2007). Orient Thai wholly owns One-Two-GO Airlines and has a 49% stake in Kampuchea Airlines

    SCARY!

  5. I was about to open a Thai company in the next 6 month. Well, this is the kind of news that finally changes my mind. I'm tired of all all this. One day this the next day this. They make up a weird investment rule, the markets crash and the next day they more or less say sorry they didnt mean it. What's up with this government.

I'll open my new business in Hong Kong and for sure not in Thailand.

Let's see how long this government stays in power....and if the new one will make even more stupid laws...now they managed to get crash down Thailands economy already...but surely more idiotic laws can be found to scare away all foreign investors...

If I would leave some money on my Thai bank account? Not one baht. Invest in Thailand under this Mickey Mouse rule? LOL

  6. :o

The military junta must be biting their shiny metal asses right now...

If they simply would have waited a few months for the Airport to sink into the swamp, there would not have been a reason

to launch that Mickey Mouse Coup and shove Thailand with weekly new nonsense announcement deeper into the shit.

The people of Thailand would have been happy to throw Taksin into the first hole on the runway.

    AMAZING THAILAND!

Can anybody take this country how it is now serious?

  7. 33.90 or back again to 36 is not the big question...the main thing is that it shows an enormous insecurity in the market, which is very very bad for any economy. Usually those currrency brokers have pre-access to rumours or information not released immediatly to the public. This insane market could indicate some political development or maybe some other non-sense announements of the junta. Seems to be a interesting weekend coming up

  8. You probably all are going to kill me after you have read this, but this is what I arrived at after 2 years having my own company here in Thailand and employing up to 20 staff members.

I have a company which is in one part a manufacturing company, one is a sales office for internet sales and one is a programming office, so I got all different areas under one roof.

The last two years I had tried EVERYTHING possible under the sun to motivate my staff, make them understand their responsibilities, show them a way to climb up...it might sound very frustrating but the reality is...I GAVE UP trying to find an alternative way to improve the working quality of my staff.

We tried to work in groups, have a whole range of managers through already, daily meetings and discussions, bonuses, company holidays, liberal working hours, games, karaoke....the result was that my staff stole money, gave a sh%# about working hours, were fighting with each other about absolute nonsense things, got sick every second day, starting complaining about wanting more money, even having sacked in a big bonus the day before, disappearing after getting the wages, not coming back from lunch, lying to me about work done, which had been found hidden...the list could go on and on.

Most of my programming staff (salery between 20.000 and 45.000 baht) and my office staff (8000 to 20.000 baht plus bonus) have graduated from university.....

to cut the whole story short: IT <deleted>$%#% doesnt work being nice and kind and good and hoping that some of them might finally wake up and show some responsibility for work or try to step up in their life....sad, very sad, but true. I love this country, love this people, but having to deal with them as staff is the worst nightmare possible.

Now, I copied the THAI SYSTEM and, yes, it is working if one doesnt expect too much

COME ON TIME OR YOU WONT GET PAID

BE SICK, ONE TIME A MONTH OR YOU GET FIRED

NO CHATTING ON THE MESSANGER, PHONE CALLS TO A MINIMUM

LUNCHBREAK 12 to 1, buy your meals yourself, nothing free anymore

INSTEAD OF 5 RESPONSIBLE AND EDUCATED PEOPLE IN THE OFFICE - have 15 sitting around working little and 2 supervisors checking every move

DOUBLE WAGES...no way, same as everyone else

DAYS OFF, HOLIDAYS...just the bare minimum

FRIENDS WITH THE BOSS...he doesnt want to know your name even anymore

BONUS...yes but not for staff as they would just quit anyhow

Every mistake which causes the company loss will be deducted from your wages

Climbing up the ladder...which ladder? Forget it

    Constant surveilance through cam

Security guard in front of the door checking bags to reduce theft

Sounds like in a f#$#$ faschist system. But thats what I had to arrive at AFTER 2 years of company experience here in Thailand. 3 times my company almost had to close down, due to grave neglectance or theft by staff....

I wish I would have another way...

Now with the new laws and the military junta, let the economy crash, let Thailand become not any longer the country with the lowest unemployment rates in the world, let people beg for jobs like in the west...maybe then something will change...until then MICKEY MOUSE STATE...and sorry, they don't deserve it better..

    Now kill me...

  9. "This is Thailand": A phrase oft quoted by a.) Foreigners to the kingdom who come across yet another reason for total bemusement. and b.) Thai persons who consider themselves of import when explaining such policfies causing bemusement to non Thais.

Policies such as these are usually referred to as the "Thai Way", a phrase that has come to mean, "We will not learn from your mistakes, or those we have ourselves made in the past. We wish to repeat said mistakes ad infinitum ourselves."

These policies are normally adopted for one of two reasons. i.) Acute xenophobia or ii.) The desire to retain the status quo and constant absolute power for the oligarcic kleptocracy who have controlled, and fed off, the country for generations.

HAHAHA GREAT EXPLAINED AND ABSOLUTELY RIGHT!

    Amazing Thailand!

    Land of shortsighted people!

As if the bombs haven't done enough damage - LET'S BLOW IT UP!

  10. GREAT MOVE! Really daring!

Tell the world: THIS IS THAILAND and with one go

    get the SET crashing

the baht tumbling down, so that no Thai can even afford to make holidays in Laos

have all foreign companies withdraw their money from Thailand

closing of hundreds of companies within the next year

kicking Thailand off world's number one place of lowest unemployment

provocing a new military coup by yet another absolutely brainless decision

Great work for just one morning!

So bye bye Thailand, I enjoy coming back to your beautiful sunny beaches. Then at least I will be able to afford your 5 star hotels and be able to sip champagne on the beach with a baht worth nothing.

    Mickey Mouse Country!

  11. This just came on Bangokpost:

IT WILL SURELY BOOST THE CONFIDENCE OR FOREIGN INVESTORS!! YEA!!! why not allow soldiers to run my company???

    CNS considers tightening martial law

    (Bangkokpost.com)

The Council for National Security on Tuesday reconsidered the tightening of martial law after Bangkok was hit by a series of bombings on New Year's Eve, said CNS chairman Sonthi Boonyaratkalin.

Gen Sonthi said the CNS members revised the implementation of the martial law to be stricter at its meeting after the capital was hit by deadly blasts.

Gen Sonthi, however, assured that CNS did not have the idea to issue a new law to equip the council with more power.

Whether to lift bans preventing political parties from engaging in activities, Gen Sonthi said it is important to maintain the coup maker's two announcements -- no. 15 and 27 -- because the situation of the country is not yet back to normal.

CNS spokesman Colonel Sansern Kaewkamnerd, meanwhile, said there would be a major reshuffle of government officials in various ministries in April. The reshuffle, he explained, is a part of the CNS's get-tough approach to shape up officials who do not devote themselves to their work. They will be given 1-2 months to shape up or they will be shipped out, he warned.

  12. 616...and falling...

Ok, so let all the maids in Isaan who are shareholders take power! And lets explain this to a japanese investor.

I bet this time they are going to beat the 820 billion baht loss at the stock exchange.

One year time to find a new place...Invest money into Thailand now??? HAHAHA Put some money on my Thai Bank Account...DREAM ABOUT IT! Do something beneficial to help Thai economy??? Pay truthfully tax??? Should the maid shareholder's take care of that.

With my last act in power as CEO of my company I just increased my salery to all what is in the companies money chest, fired my staff and I am off to a sunny Thai beach, enjoying every sip of my beer as it gets cheaper and cheaper.

WAKE UP THAILAND! No one can be THAT STUPID!

  13. Can't wait to see the Thai Stock Exchange tomorrow if the minister insists on : THIS IS THE THAI WAY! We worked three months on it...so we will go through with the new regulations...

So, lets close our Thai companies, fire all staff, hire them the same time, but this time they will work for lower wages for an illegal pirate company which doesn't pay any tax nor invests in Thailand, just makes sure to transfer as much money out of this country to a more secure safe harbor.

Is it that what the government wants?

Or maybe I should ask the 85 year old grandmother of one employee of sunbelt, who got 1000 baht signing as a shareholder, to step up and become CEO of the board of directors. Surely in Thai hands, this company is destined to prosper and with her wisdom the right decision with a bit of faith in the military junta will be taken.

THAILAND land of the shortsighted people!

Let's see how this will have an impact to the baht...maybe they get it to fall 50 %....I will have half the problems paying back my companies debts...wait a minute...why should I care...grandmother will take care of it...I am off to sunny VIETNAM

At least thanks to this regime, reading thai news has never been that amusing.

    MICKEY MOUSE COUNTRY

  14. Try to go through with this stupid law and expect another record landslide in the Thai stock exchange. At least the government can be sure that the Thai baht wont climb any further, it wont as the whole economy of this country would go CRASHING DOWN. I own a company with the same 51/49 % setup. If I would have to give away the power over my company to some Thai shareholders, I would first make sure that there is no more company. If all foreign companies start to pull out of Thailand, finally Thailand will have an unemployment problem and not have the lowest unemployment rate in the world.

Vietnam, Malaysia economy will boom, thats definitely the next destination to go then.

NOBODY CAN BE THAT STUPID AND MAKE A LAW LIKE THAT!

  15. Phuket police seize over 5,000 fake credit cards

PHUKET: -- Police have arrested three Sri Lankan men for credit-card fraud, seizing more than 5,000 bogus credit cards allegedly encoded with information from real credit cards.

    ...

A search of the vehicle uncovered a notebook computer, 2,703 fake white credit cards and three flash drives. After <b>the arresting officers turned down a Bt2-million bribe in exchange for their release</b>, the men were questioned, Boonlert said.

The real news here is that the arresting officers turned down a 2 million Baht bribe! Perhaps there is hope for Thailand after all. I hope those officers get a big time promotion and reward.

I think that would be a first by Thai Police...turning down 2.000.000 and not asking for it! Respect if this is really true!

  16. "

Welcome to Thailand, the land of short sighted people with little or no vision.

This is SOOOO THAI! I completely agree, shortsighted people with little or no vision. Ooops, we lost 820.000.000.000 baht HAHAHA...how about using a bit of brain before announcing another nonsense decision...

  17. Slowly getting fed up with all this coups and counter coups....It is becoming a real Mickey Mouse country. I mean, it is hard to take Thais serious all the time...

Let's hope they find someone to blame for the bombs, have Taksin sent far away, never to return on go on minding their business, whatever they do
