I have a brother who is using drugs heavily and i need to get him into rehab and i remember from my time living in Thailand 10 years ago that there was a centre run by buddhist monks and they got people to drink some herbal medicine that made them sick and it cured them of their craving for drugs.I cant remember where the centre was but i wonder does anyone on this forum have information about the this place i read about? many tnx. 2. I left Asia last year and i think the points OP make are valid and i think Thailand is for some people but in my experience when you strip away the the booze and the girls, there is not much left to offer.Asians are by there nature on a totally different wavelength to the western mentality which is difficult to live with if you ask me,alot of Asians are born liars and scammers and they scam and cheat their own people not to mind the foreigners, the only thing i miss about Asia is the weather and having returned to europe,i see big improvements in the economy here.I have lived in many countries but the one thing that makes life easy or difficult to do business in is the language and culture. If i were to go back to Asia and pick a country ,it would be the philippines, they speak english, they share similarities with western culture more than any other country in Asia and if you ask me ,it is a country with the most potential,it is just turning around as an economy and has lots of future potential.I spent 3 weeks in shenzhen and i could not wait to get of there,a concrete jungle with a population only interested in making money ,the weather was terrible,i would not want to live there but i like the balance between lifestyle and a good economy.

  3. Having spent time in both Thailand and Cambodia, the only thing i miss is the weather,i needed the company of westerns when i was living in Asia and to be honest ,generally they are not poster boys for farangs that i would hope for.As regards the Asians they can be pleasant but you do begin to realize that no matter how long you know an Asian, your relationship is very temporary and they can turn their back on you in an instant ,particulary the women.I think Asia now is starting to get polluted and they are destroying their natural beauty through over development and overcrowding from tourists but what really convinced me that Asia was not for me is when you see past the girls and the booze then there is very little to do!!!!!!!

  4. The only drawback about phnom penh is it is expensive to rent a room there for a reasonable price, my advice is head for sihanoukville or kep where a friend of mine rents a fine room for 40usd a month which costs 70-100usd in sihanoukville but it could be worth just for the sanity of meeting more westerns and there is more of a choice of food in the market there but dont forget Vietnam, imo it is far cheaper there for food and beer than either cambodia or Thailand.
