Not true in Thailand. PC madness has not infected here yet.  Flattery is well acceptex in Thailand.

Absolutely right, The manic. And thankfully so. Women here tend to take flattery as it's meant to, in a lighthearted way. Not with the manufactured PC outrage of the west.

  2. Ok, that's clear then. I've been mulling TE for a while now.

Any time you come into the country you get to stay a year, no questions asked. After, well just before, a year you either need to (a) get the 'ell out and come back in or (b) go pay for an extension. In case (a) you're good for another year from the date of reentry. Case (b) you're good for 1 year from the day the extension was stamped.

And, of course, all these fun and games are permissible for the duration of the TE visa, or PE visa, or whatever it's called.

I stand to be corrected ... But be precise please based on published rules not anecdotes.

Personally, since I'm sending money to my Thai bank account and assuming I'm in Thailand at the time I would not fund with my Debit Card since I have multiple debit cards that do not charge any foreign transaction fee and also reimburse the Thai ATM ripoff Bt220 foreign card fee.

Curious, how do you get such a card? I avoid using my US credit union debit card except for emergencies because of that 220b. fee and I doubt I get a great exchange rate either (well, probably the bank rate you quote above).

But that fee really hurts because the cash withdrawal limit per transaction is about $500, at least for my CU, which means the fee works out to more than 1%.

Today i saw a plane very high in the sky and another one flying in his slipstream/smoketrace...The 2nd one was very hard to see but not far behind the first one.

Might have been Superman and Batman. Ever since their 2016 movie together flopped they've been pretty depressed. They were parked in Ibiza for a while laying about drinking all day and making a nuisance of themselves with the babes after sundown. Ended up getting kicked off the island.

Then they moved to Thailand. In June I spotted the pair at the back of Baccara in Soi Cowboy carousing with a bunch of babes. Then Superman flew out with one on his back. But apparently he hadn't paid the barfine because the mamasan was on Batman in a flash yelling for her money.

I just hope what you saw was the demented duo leaving the country for good.

  5. Best is to make a provisional patent first. Couple of years ago it was $100 at the USPTO site. A foolproof patent is a heckuva lot harder to write and you'll probably need help of patent lawyers, figure $5000 at least.

Recommended is to go with the provisional first, which gives you protection for a year, and then decide if to go full monty.

If I remember a patent in any one of the signatory countries (of the international patent org) is valid in all of them. But I have no idea how to apply for one in Thailand and I bet docs will be in Thai.

6500 in the Asics store, my wife just bought these today...

Curious Asics store where? I need a large size and remember going to a few different shops before finding a fitting pair at Central Chidlom. Wouldn't mind trekking over to a well-stocked Asics outlet though.

Think Like a Billionaire: Everything You Need to Know About Success, Real Estate, and Life by Donald J. Trump

Do I want to be like Buddha or Donald Trump? Easy decision.

Wait, maybe not. Donald gets to bang Ivanka, no? Does banging Ivanka count as making merit?

  8. smo, relax, every guy and gal in the planet has had such experiences, multitudes of them. The more you are attracted to a person the more you fear rejection by such a person, therefore the more you find a way to avoid possible rejection. You would have to be an emotionless Spock to have no fear of rejection (but then an emotionless Spock would probably end up being rejected anyway). Freezing and/or acting stupid when confronted with someone you find highly attractive is just human. And then blaming yourself for losing this one last chance of a partner to grow old with and die in their arms (yeah, right) is human too.

Move on, do other stuff and in a week it'll become a speck in the rear view mirror.

should we concerned? a serious disease in pigs [vietnamese pork] across the border, vietnam/camboadia will make its way into thailand.

as pork is the main food here it is worrying that this could happen.

i have not seen any report on the news channels.

How do you know then? Ain't nothing google brings up either.

Oh, I got it. Happened to me once too. Not a pig but a dying cow whispered in my ear "My kind has an incurable disease. Stop eating beef." But I was too smart to fall for that. Ain't no 4-legged critter gonna stop me from eating 4-legged critters.

  10. The only job you might get fairly easily is with a language school as an English instructor. I believe TV has a separate forum for teachers plus there must be dozens of others on FB, etc.

I have never done this work though and it just struck me that a school might ask teaching qualifications, distinct from what you have in business. Still look into it. As posters above indicate other low-level jobs are simply not open to foreigners.

For Buddhists, life is suffering.  Suffering is caused by craving and desire.  That would include the desire to still have loved ones who died.

Then there are the concepts of reality and the illusory nature of life and our perception.  The universe is not under our control.

My son has been dead 12 years now.  Sometimes I think I just imagined him.  Sometimes I'm sad, sometimes I laugh when I think about him.  And if I can't find one of my tools, I sometimes blame it on him.  :)

I admire your take on life and death, Damrongsak. I was going to say you're a true Buddhist but then I really don't know enough of Buddhism to say that. I just think you like some others have a knack for finding your way to happiness, even from such tragedies as the loss of a child. To my mind, to always see a glass half full is a blessing conferred more by inherent personality traits and life events than a particular faith.

Also it helps to have a sense of humor.  People who like to see the funny side tend to bounce back more easily.

By the way great pic earlier of your son. Bet he left a lot of grieving females.
