  1. Hi

Now on my 7th day and getting somewhat settled in. Weather nice, ahead of Thailand, not so hot and far lower humidity.
Food great, provided you like Italian/European food  of course which I do.
    Far far cleaner.

People friendly, small town may have much to do with that and not necessarily specific to Italy
    So far so good.

Enjoy ,hope it all works out [emoji106]
Don’t forget the beautiful food that is now on your doorstep
    Bellisimo ![emoji846]

  2. Another of these stupid laws, 90 days report, TM30, 49% ownership, work permit and now this smoking law. How will they inform Thai people.
My girlfriends mother (nonsmoking) living some 100km east Bangkok, never ever even heard of TM30. First of all, she can not read and understand! But If told, how can she fullfill this silly, ridiculus, insane law, when we visit her. This happened last mothers day and we where really scared stying there for 2 nights. I hardly could not sleep [emoji6]
Same problem with this crazy smoking law. One million police officers checking around, enough?
Just talking to my girlfriend about it, she have not heard anything about this insane new law!

Besides, I am totally a nonsmoking guy!

PS. very interesting to see all the heavy smoking Chinese take on this.
They can´t smoke or rent out their brand new purchased condo in Bangkok, Pattaya or Phuket.

    I am a smoker
But i am in the Golden Triangle
( i am being a good boy) ciggies only !
But this new visa stuff is making me worry and preventing me from sleeping
Jeez ,i didn’t sign up for this !

  3. Thais have a long tradition of ignoring laws they don't like. Banning the eating of street food at night snared two Korean tourists at a street stall but no Thais because they chased the police away. That was under a military government in 1972 and is probably still on the books. Drinking beer from teapots in public places on religious and some regular holidays is another example of how an unpopular law is circumvented. I suspect pressure from the WHO is largely to blame for this latest over-reaction to smoking at home. It was proposed at a meeting in Seoul a few years ago and then went quiet...

You seem very well educated [emoji106]

  4. Nothing to do with the government. The government doesn't enforce laws. The police do - or in Thailand's case, don't. What the government should do is replace the pretend police force with another group, trained from the military. Then there might be some, a little, law and order in Thailand. Ever since the latest coup they already have to go out with the pretend police on many occasions, to assist the incompetents and to oversee that they operate properly.

As to this latest law, which I'm sure will never used, it's just more of the usual hot air from politicians trying to pretend they are useful for something, anything.

The army is in control right now , not the police !

  5. Doesn't anyone think that limiting or banning smoking with children or the elderly present is a good idea?

Smoke with other smokers only, yes. Inflict on others no.

It really is not about bossing people in their own homes.

    Yes very true
I mentioned it to my Pal from Derry
And he said in the uk you will get arrested if you smoke in a car with kids- i get that
But before you start dishing out the orders
Get rid of all the plastic first !

  6. Apply for a multiple entry non-o visa at the consulates in Savannakhet Laos or Ho Chi Minh city. No financial proof is needed.
Or get a single entry non-o visa and apply for one year extension of stay based upon marriage at immigration. You will need 400k baht in a Thai bank for 2 months or proof of 40k baht income.

    Thanks Joe

  7. Perhaps you should read slower.  Last year I was in and out in 25 minutes.  My income letter was dated Dec 31st.  The word extortion comes to mind, pay me or you don't get your extension.  Who said my paperwork wasn't in order.  Maybe you should read even more slowly.  I had everything I needed.

Aren’t you the lucky one !

  8. Well I finally got the bike back to where I bought it. The former mechanic is no longer working there. Anyhow, I explained that it was slow, would hardly go up Doi Suthep with two people on it, and wouldn't do more than 100 k/h with one person on it. They said they'd take a look and we left it there for a few hours. Little to my surprise the verdict was that nothing is wrong or out of the ordinary. Of course, how do they go about their work? Since they don't have a compression gauge, how could they ever test the valves? I'm sure they turned the key, revved the engine, and that was about it. One young mechanic there told me I could modify the bike by changing the exhaust, that the stock exhaust is robbing a lot of power (for 1500 baht or so). They did seem to have tuned up the brakes a bit...

Driving it home alone, I really ran out the gears and it seems the power band is pretty high up on the revs. That doesn't explain my slow top speed (I don't think!) but does play into the really poor low end...such as taking off from a stop. So maybe changing that back gear to give me more grunt might be in order. But first....I'm going to find a rental and give it a whirl.
Anyone have any thoughts on changing the exhaust?

I think you can modify the gear clog to change the revs
I am no mechanic but a fella told me that once [emoji106]
