  1. Hi, I used the service on the ground floor of the vfs building. Can't remember price, but that doesn't really matter too much, sometimes convenience is the way to go in Thailand, and having the translator and the visa people in the same building is great. Example, if you need something further translated, or clarified, they're right there so rather than hearing you need to go away and come back again, which I find painful in Thailand, you can just duck downstairs and rectify the problem and back up you go! Easy mate.wink.png

Hi Krisb do u know if they can also certify the translated documents.

I asked them about prices of translation over a year ago now and their prices were very reasonable.

Do you have there contact detail's by any chance?

  2. I thought the passport issuer would update and link the new with old.

Wish it was as simple as that Krisb,

I sent an e-mail to the Aus embassy in Bangkok and they replied quickly with the correct procedure so i will post their response here as to be of help to someone else who need's to do the same, pretty straight forward really.

I refer to your email message on dated 29/07/2013 to Immigration Bangkok.
Regards to your concerns and questions below,
    1. You can submit the F929 and copied of both old an new passport of your wife at the Australian Visa Application Centre (AVAC) or VFS
    2. VFS officer can do the certified true copy of the passport for you.
We will update your wife’s new passport details electronically into our system. Thus, as soon you wife has received her new passport issuing from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, she should visit VFS and submit the F929 & passport details to VFS officer.
    The AVAC is located at:
    Thai CC Tower
    Unit 2 & 3, 34th Floor
    889 South Sathorn Rd Yannawa
    Bangkok 10120
Opening hours: Monday to Friday, 8:30 - 16:00. Except public holidays. No appointment is needed. A service fee of 535 Thai baht is applicable.
Please note that the current processing time for the evidencing of visas is 2-3 working days. Please let me know if you have any further concerns or questions regards to this matter.
I hope this information would be of assistance.
    Kind Regards,

  3. Hi there, I have not been in the same situation, but common sense tells me to ring the consular section at the Bangkok Embassy or better still go there to sort it out. I doubt they will ask you to send the passport to Australia.

The Australian Embassy has outsourced the handling of the paperwork involved in regard visa applications only before handing it to the Oz Embassy. The are only giving advice if any paperwork for a visa application is missing and do not make any decisions on the outcome of visa applications.

VFS certainly don't deal with any passport issues.

    Thankyou For ure wisdom;

Since asking for advice i have e-mailed the Aus embassy in Bangkok for advice.

Just thought 1 of the member's here might have been in the same situation and can give me some advice and a head's up, in what to do.

  4. Hi all

I have a flight booked leaving Don Mueang at 11am on a saturday i am just wondering how long the jouney will take from pratunam allowing for traffic and such.. And also would a taxi be the best mean's of transport. i will be travelling with my wife and two kid's and we will have a bit of luggage.

  5. Hi fella's the time has come for my missus to renew her passport before it expires.

It is the first time for us so we are a bit uncertain on a few thing's.She hold's a (granted provisional) resident visa in Australia Subclass 309

We will be renewing her passport in Bangkok and i want to know the best way to inform the department so she will not have any drama's when we return to Aus.

I know that we will have to fill out form 929 and submit a certified copy of her new passport

can anyone help me with this?

Where do i submit form 929 do i do this at the VFS office, or the embassy in Bangkok, or do i have to send it back to AUS???

Who can certify the copy of her new passport, can this be done at the VFS office or is there someone else who can do this???

Can someone who has done this before please advice me the best way to go about this

    Thankyou

You must advise the department of any changes to your

passport details before and after a visa is granted to you.

This includes details of any new passport you obtain to replace

a passport that has expired or been lost/stolen/destroyed, and

any additional passport of another nationality you hold. The

details of any new passport that you provide will be linked to

your record on the department’s systems to facilitate your

travel. Where a new passport has been issued, a certified

copy of this passport must be submitted with this form.

Please use this form to advise of any change to your:

    • address; and/or

    • passport details.

Return the completed form to the office where you lodged your

application or if your visa has been granted, to the nearest office

    of the department.

  6. Got that wrong it is actually called

  7. The phone card I use is the Aussie phone card - sanuk

I was optimistic with the call rate (must have been thinking of the Thai card)

    $10 = 237 mins ... 2.37c a minute.

    Local call for connection.

If anyone has a better deal please type it here ... I keen to save the pennies.

Oh ... krisb ... no delay, quality good.

If, per chance the connection is cr*ap ... which sometimes it is ... you hit ## twice ... (we say 'hash', they say 'square' key) and you can dial again ... and not connection cost.

Once you have made the initial connection you can keep dialing other numbers in Thailand.

    .

A little bit confused what your actually asking there David.

But if your looking to save your penny's for phone calls from Aus to Thailand you should check on the link i provided with my last post a lot better rate than what u are paying with your Aussie phone card.(not sure what this is?)

    $2.37 pang mak mak

  8. I warmly suggest that anyone who relies on electronic communication between their home country and Thailand is for a couple of emails sent each week makes proving the relationship as being bona-fide as a far better option then phone records.

The simple reason is that they provide a convenient record of the communication which can be included in a Visa application.

I'm not 'old school' in my thinking ... just that they are a great and inclusive record.

As for communication ... I use a phone card.

400 mins, yep almost 7 hours of talk time for just $10 Aussie Dollars.

That's how we do it ... your experiences may vary.

    .

Thats great value David, hows the connection quality? like is there much lag before speaking and answering? I use optus pre paid on their international zone a they call it which is only 6cents a minute and its like talking to someone locally. Whats the name of the phone card you use? may get my wife onto that.

    Hi krisb

Mate we also use optus but we go with the international calls 4 less much cheaper 23 or 26cents flag call and 3cents a minute, minimum recharge amount $30 but lasts for 3months they also include a heap of free sms with this, and the local call's also seem to be a lot cheaper than there normal pre paid service.

Was with Lebara a long time ago but there reception was shit and kept cutting out all the time.

My missus calls Thailand when ever she want's for how long she want's and at the end of the day it cost's sweet fuc_k all.

here a link to there fees 0.5cents per minute for landlines and 3 cents per minute to mobiles 23cents flag

  9. The applicant is only applying for a visitors visa 676. all that has to be met is the criteria for this visa. All visas have different critera.( in other words requirements) The visa form has an information page.

"The applicant is only applying for a visitors visa"

Did you fail to read in the opening post by the OP and also in the subject of the topic ( will this affect partner visa).

it will not affect a visitors visa or partner visa. I simply stated that she could use the application for a visitors visa as a stepping stone to the partner visa.

Electau i am only trying to be helpful in my post's, as i have travelled down this road recently.

    Best of luck,

  10. My partner actually ticked divorced on her first and second tourist visa application,

We had a choice between, defacto, or divorced, and with either of those two choices we wer'nt lying,

But i do think if you are serious about the partner visa in your letter of invitation it would not hurt to talk about your relationship as i really think that you could use that as a stepping stone to the partner visa.

    Best of luck

  11. I do not understand why you have been advised not to mention him as your partner.(this does not make sense)

In my experience, when i first applied for a visitor visa for my partner we were honest about our relationship. And i think this worked in our favour.(my partner is now a resident in Australia)

You say that you will be applying for a partner visa in april/may, by being honest about your relationship now and stating that you are already in a relationship will only make your case for a partner visa easier. What partner visa do you plan on applying for is it on defacto grounds?(if so you will have to prove that you have been in a genuine relationship for the previous 12 month's)

I would be very careful about lying to DIAC if you are caught out it will probably ruin any chance for a visa at all.

    Best of luck

  12. In theory your friends girlfriend can apply for another visa at any time, but there are a number of things she needs to take into consideration when applying, the ECO certainly will when considering the application.

A visitors visa is just that, a visa designed for people who wish to visit the UK, not live there on a semi permanent basis.

Normally a person is only expected to be in the UK for a maximum of six months in a twelve month period, whilst this isn't set in law, it is a convention and an applicant will need to have compelling reasons to exceed this on a visitors visa.

You say she is in the UK on a six months visitors visa which is due to expire in March, that leads me to think that she intends to remain in the UK for the full six months, did she say in her original application that her visit was going to be for the full six months, if so what were her reasons to return?

In any subsequent application she will need to convince the ECO that it is a genuine visit and that she has compelling reasons to return, job etc. My gut feeling is that the ECO would decline a second application made quickly after a lengthy visit to the UK, believing the applicant is using the visitor visa to circumnavigate the settlement process to remain in the UK.

There is plenty of advice on this forum, far too much to provide links to, it maybe best if, as you suggest, your friend joins TV himself and has a read through and then asks any specific questions.

    Thanks for the informative post

I know that his girlfriend has returned to Thailand for about 1 month to see her child in the period of her current visa and is now back in England.

Mabey this will show that she has reason to return.

I totaly agree that he is better to join the forum himself and search through the forum for info.

    thankyou

  13. Hi all

I am asking this question on behalf of good english friend of mine.

His girlfriend is currently in england on a 6month visitors visa which expires in march, and has asked how soon she has to wait until she can apply for another visa.

Any help with this, or links to topic's on this subject will be much appreciated.

I have asked my friend to join the forum so hopefully he can help with more info.

    Cheers nightwatch

  14. When was the last time visa fees were increased? 2007? To minimise the cost do ALL the processing of your visa in Thailand. (if practical and possible).

Approx every 5 years expect a visa fee increase. In 1990 it was $285 and the FX rate was about 16THB to the AUD. Labour costs per hour were less than 50% of what they are now.(2012)

Visa fee's have been increasing twice a year for the last couple of year's,

  16. Hi all

I posted earlier that i would add my partners statement that she wrote for her partner visa (subclass 309/100).Statement's from both of us are a requirement for the partner visa.

This was not easy for her, although she can speak reasonably good english, putting pen to paper to write a statement was a different matter, and she insisted that she could not do it. I told her that it is needed for the visa and she had to try, so with her upset i left for work, when i got home she had written out a couple of page's for the statement ,it had taken her all day using a thai translation book.

The statement she had written did not contain all the criterior but i thought it would be better to add it to her application the way it was with some very minor adjustment's on her spelling.

I just typed out her statement and got her to sign it.

  17. they don't always assume you met your partner on a chrome pole so why the need to mention in the first line you met at some restaurant ?

For what it is worth my supporting letter for the missus' visa application just outlined my ability to support her during our visit, visa application was successful.

    Hi spoonman

I assume by your reply your missus visa was a visitors visa ,no need to mention where and where u met (i certianly did not on a visitors visa)

But you will have to give this as evidence of your relationship on a partner visa.

You will find this on page 39 of the 1127 partner migration booklet.(sorry having trouble adding a link)

My partner actually worked at this restaurant(and not on a chrome pole)

    cheer's

    nightwatch

Indeed it was just a normal tourist visa, I did however mention in my letter that for the 5 yrs we have been living together has been as a defacto couple.

If you were to ever apply for a partner visa, she would actually qualify for a permanent visa and be able to bypass the provisional permanent visa as you have been in a defacto relationship for over 3year's,

Also you could use your past letter's of support as evidence.
