  1. Thanks to all for the helpful answers and sharing your experiences. As noted in one of the threads about LDN, getting regular naltrexone and titrating it into LDN doesn't work because the regular naltrexone is not the same formulation as LDN (something to do with different time release properties if I understood right). Why wouldn't I just do the following: 1) Buy an opaque larger pill bottle that can hold ~500 pills (about a 15 month supply), transfer the prescription label to that bottle, and then it's just a single bottle holding the LDN. 2) Do the same thing for the supplements: tape the labels on a larger bottle and try to put all the supplements of each type into the one bottle. (Total would then be 3 bottles: one of LDN, one of supplement A, and one of supplement B.) Each of these larger supplement bottles might be around 24*14*14 cm. So bigger than normal pill bottles but maybe not big enough to draw notice. 3) Put the three bottles in my carry-on bag (which is a backpack). Then for the ring: 4) Why wouldn't I just take the ring out of the carry-on bag when the plane lands in Phuket, and before getting off the plane, wear the ring on one of my fingers? Could they really try to impose an import tax on a piece of jewelry that I'm wearing? If there is no security metal detector scan of my body after exiting the plane and while going through customs, this seems like the safest option assuming that they wouldn't try to impose import taxes on items a tourist is wearing on their body. (If they did that then wouldn't that mean every married tourist couple would be shaken down for taxes on the wedding rings they're wearing when they go through the airport? That doesn't make sense. If the issue is that it's a woman's ring, then perhaps that is mitigated by turning the ring upside down on my finger so that the diamond is facing inward towards my palm, and thus less noticeable.) 5) There is another thing which is that I need to bring my second monitor which I use for work in one of the checked bags. If they're going to impose an import tax on that then I am willing to just eat the cost (should be around $100 if they're taxing it at 30% of the value). It seems to me like if I follow the plan outlined in steps 1-5 then I'll most likely be able to get everything I want into Thailand at little or no extra cost. I can bring a note from my doctor about the LDN and supplements just in case (but I don't know if she'd be willing to edit the doses to make the 1-year supply look like it's a 1-month supply; I could bring whatever note I can get from her, regardless, as an insurance to show that I should be allowed to keep at least a portion of the medication and supplements if it's raised as an issue at customs).
  2. I take low-dose naltrexone for an auto-immune disease. LDN is a widely recognized and in Europe commonly prescribed medication for immune disorders, but from my research it's not compounded in Thailand. I want to avoid the potential hassle of trying to import it from India for at least my first year in the country, by bringing a one year supply in my luggage when I arrive into the Phuket airport for the sandbox program. 1) Will a doctor's prescription be needed to prevent the medication from being confiscated by customs? Do I also need a doctor's note explaining everything I'm bringing (including the supplements) in addition to being able to show a prescription document? 2) Will a doctor's note for a 1 year prescription be seen as a problem when my visa-exempt entry will not yet have been changed to a non-o 1 year extension at the time that I'm arriving? (I.e. is the incongruity between the prescription length and the "duration of stay" in Thailand going to be a problem?) 3) Will the x-ray scanning machines pick up that I have all these pill bottles inside the suitcases, or will the bottles only be noticed if my luggage is randomly subjected to being manually inspected and opened? 4) Is it a better idea to pack the medication and supplements in only the checked bags, or in the carry-on? Or is it better to split evenly among the three bags (e.g. if there are 24 bottles total, should I put 8 pill bottles in each suitcase/bag if I am bringing two checked bags and one carry-on)? 5) Is there any risk that customs will try to extort import taxes out of me on the medications? 6) I plan to bring a diamond engagement ring for my girlfriend since this is the visit in which we're getting married. Is there any risk that customs at the airport of arrival will steal the ring, or try to impose an import tax on the ring being brought into the country? Is the risk of theft or extortive taxes reduced if I wear the ring on my hand for the trip until I'm through the airport? (If I wear the ring on my hand will I be forced to remove it into a tray when passing through a body scanning machine for security?) Or is it better to keep the ring in my carry-on bag? I wouldn't feel as nervous coming into Thailand back in 2014 or even 2018 but based on what I read, the environment seems to have gotten much worse in Thailand and there's the added factor that it's not just a risk with the medication+supplements, but also the diamond ring (perhaps an issue with the medication draws attention to the ring as a target of extortion for sin-bon in the form of unjustified import taxes, or vice-versa). It would be a big help and I'd be very grateful if anyone has tried to brings these kinds of things into Thailand recently and can advise on what the safest methods would be for reducing the risk of having problems.
  3. Hello all, I bought the SafetyWing insurance and uploaded the policy declaration as well as the description of the plan, but it seems that the consulate did not read these documents or something went wrong. I was just notified: "Royal Thai Consulate-General, Los Angeles has rejected your registration/application. Due to 1. The insurance should indicated : - Cover COVID-19 treatment in Thailand - Period of the insurance policy ( start … / end … ) - Period should cover the period of stay in Thailand. - Minimum coverage of 100,000 USD. or 3,500,000 Baht. - We do not accept print screen insurance/ insurance card. 2. A copy of the recent bank statement. (700 USD per person / 1,500 USD per family) with your name stated clearly 3. Completed address in Thailand & US" I don't understand what went wrong. I thought I uploaded the required insurance documents. Also, this is the first time I ever heard anything about needing to upload a bank statement. I am applying under visa-exempt entry and there was never a bank statement requirement indicated in the application page. Also, "Completed address in Thailand" makes no sense because this is the application for preapproval. How am I supposed to have a Thai address when I haven't been preapproved yet? I already bought airfare for this trip for Sep 1 because I didn't previously understand that preapproval was a separate step from approval. So I really need to get the preapproval processed so that I can get the COE application fully approved. Should I cancel the SafetyWing insurance and find an alternative? What about the other requirements of bank statement and Thai address? Finally, I can't figure out if it's possible to modify the COE application. (I can't even find a way to check the status in the website, because the email says "You can check the status of your registration/application by clicking “check the result” on https://coethailand.mfa.go.th Your 6 digit code to check your registration/application status is :" but there is no link or anything on that page that says "check the result." EDIT: I found out that you have to click through to the next screen to find the "Check the result" button. I see this message there: "Due to : 1. Completed address in Thailand & US Click the “Edit Personal information” button to update your information." What I uploaded from SafetyWing was the Policy Declaration document which shows start date and end date, and $250,000 coverage limit, but it doesn't on that document indicate Covid coverage. The Description of Coverage is what indicates Covid coverage and I also attached that but I guess they didn't read it, <deleted>? I've attached it here. I just bought what was recommended by this forum. Should I just get ANOTHER insurance plan somewhere else that more clearly states somehow (not in a large, long description booklet) that Covid is covered? Where should I get that? For the Thai address I guess I could use my girlfriend's house (which is where I'd stay after the sandbox quarantine ends)? SafetyWing description-of-coverage.pdf
