  1. You would never eat Canadian Pink salmon in a can if you saw how they were processed, but there is not a better salmon than a Pink if it has been freshly caught with a fly rod. That goes for a lot of processed foods.

I read a few articles that imply that the New Zealand catch of Salmon is of a superior quality then that of Canadian variety.

I would say Alaskan is the best but when it comes to mussels (green lip) and oysters (Bluff oysters) NZ has the best. Best shrimp is a close call but I would go for Hudson bay if pushed. Best Crayfish would be from the Kaikoura region of NZ while the best crawfish would come from the Bayou Louisiana.

This guy knows his seafood (to be trusted) ... BUT i would introduce him to the 'Cromer Crab' ... best in the world and tasiest by far. ; ) (Freshly caught only - if you can stand the smelliness) I could ... divine straight for cooking. (Oops - that could be my 'hungry' button coming on - totally your fault LOL ... but do check out the 'Cromer'. - would be cool to know what you think)

  2. Australia has expertise in investigation and cross border crime

Given Oz doesn't actually have any borders as such, where did the Aussie old bill pick up all their cross border expertise? Back packing in Europe?

The Australians have excellent skills and demonstrated them in East Timor in 2006. They have provided valuable assistance in Tonga and the Solomon Islands. Personnel have also honed their mine and ordinance disposal skills in Cambodia and Afghanistan.

In addition to looking good in their shorts and flip flops and possessing incredible skills at beer can opening, Australians are the backbone of peacekeeping and humanitarian efforts in this region. Give credit where credit is due.

    I

    Hear, hear. !

  3. I was at university with identical twins, who had identical handwriting, except that it sloped differently depending on whether it was the left-handed or right-handed twin.

I'll need to check again, and see if I can tell the difference between my left-hand and right-hand writing. I think it does slope differently, just because of the different relationship between the hand and the paper.

    SC

Did you check yet. ? Hurry up ... my supper is burning and my Dog doesn't know weather he is getting a bath or not. !

    Humbly Jude LOL.

  4. Found my facts (for 'leftie's):

    - are more athletically inclined.

    - spatial awareness (so that includes driving .. we could laugh about that : )

    - think more quickly (ie/ on the spot)

although ... some naturally favour left from birth - their familial upbringing has been otherwise - and that's just the 'way'. Seems a bit sad to me.

... when you look at these guys : Michelangelo, Leonardo Da Vinci, Julius Ceasar (not sure on him lol), Paul M'Cartney.

It begs the question ... 'a lefty or a righty' (brain) ... there is a really interesting survey on this. If anyone is cool enough to be able to know how to download it to TV - would really love to know - will take part myself.

Don't ask me i'm too arty - it needs a practical 'righty' person for the job. : ))) x

  5. Its very prudent to save face for your retirement, when you need it most

If you can retire while saving face, you're doing well

    SC

Alright 'Cryptic Bob' ... : ) Keep well my lovely boy and i'll do the same. x

I think you're getting me confused with a future poster...

The pertils of time travel, eh?

Straying back on topic, on the other hand it could be intended as gentle critcism...

    SC

    Yes probably : )

But i am not being confused in saying 'Please close this thread down to the Mods' - i believe i have clearly identified the less desirable element through my mistake ... and i for one want a few more gal's on this site to chat to. You blokes have had your turn ... it's all dick and nothing interesting ... too boring.

  6. Cut the crap. If you believe in ghosts, you have been here for way too long .

If you don't believe in ghosts, you are rather narrow-minded.

I've seen one in Scotland and felt the presence of one here.

So many cultures and religions believe in ghosts - why do you think that is?

He he heeee ... do behave. Where in Scotland exactly - they are pretty pastey looking in that neck of the woods (am i going to get in trouble now - LOL : )))) - excellent job by Andy before you start with the mafia ... a fine job - proud of him. I wan't to know about this 'sighting' firstly. ?

  7. Yes well ... it seemed funny to me at the time ... somehow. ?? : ) I have been celebrating my birthday over approx 2 weeks ... but the party is over now .. and it's back to boring reality. Thank you anyway. (When i peeked one eye open the other morning ... i was wishing it was a dream LOL : ) sure you all know the feeling.)

Especially like Bookman (very funny) and SC (very human). I will try and think of something interesting to say on my 'off the wall' and chosen topic. !

Please don't hold your breath ... but i will come up with an interesting fact ... watch this space. ! (I like to save face when i can : ))))

  8. Wow ... looks awful. ! I must have been lucky ... or sour. : )

edited to say ... i think that is a bit rude that the OP doesn't reply. !

If you're serious about spending a week in the jungles of Thailand, then you really need to realize that tigers are the least of your worries. I'd highly recommend that you refrain from putting yourself in this position unless you have a local guide and the proper equipment! Let this photo of my foot, taken after a 20 minute jungle trek on a relatively well-beaten path in a popular Thai national park, be a warning to you! I was indeed wearing sturdy shoes, and was with locals who I falsely assumed would be aware of such things since they'd been there a few times before (turns out they just drive around on the roads and get out at the super touristy points to take photos!) If you're not completely prepared, you'll be slowly eaten alive by leeches, mosquitos, ants and centipedes.

  9. Keep as many of your own teeth as you can and, as mentioned, then go for the partial dentures.

I'm only nearly 57 but my bottom teeth just started falling out the last few years, I thought I brushed my teeth okay back in my youth but obviously not; anyway it got to the point where I had to have a full denture.

For my upper teeth, I still had 5 or 6 firmly in place, but the dentist said to make a denture he'd have to pull them all, bar 2.

So now I look like Dracula without the teeth!

The upper denture is held in place by 2 small hooks which grip the remaining teeth, its very convenient, slips on and off a treat and is easy to eat food with.

The lower adhesive, (Polydent), held denture is much more of a pain. It's difficult to chew food with and I always take it out to eat, unless I have to eat with VIP guests- it happens once in a while! The adhesive will hold the denture firmly in place for several hours if you don't eat, so it's quite workable, but I'd much prefer it to be like the upper, ie held in place by hooks.

On the bright side I must save a lot of time only having 2 teeth to brush!

    This is honest advice/ experience.

If the lower denture is not a good fit and Polydent doesnt hold verywell then get a tube of Silicon sealant,,clean and wet the denture, squeeze the sealant into the denture and put into your mouth. The silicon will fill up any spaces. Leave for an hour, remove the denture and knife away any sealant that has come onto the front of the denture. Let the denture dryout overnight, then use as normal.

    LOL ... you win. : ) Honesty is boring - i agree : )

  10. Also your Dad sounded like a fine man.

He was rather insular, you might say regimented, but a very decent man who consumed fat hardback novels four a time from the public library. Stiff upper lip, wouldn't complain or even tell you about any illness and drove his car out and looked after himself every day to the end at 89. Always looked clean and neat and so did the garden.

Loved the horses all his life, gambled to the end but more for the crack than the money, and not only lost his teeth in Egypt but went in the Army to India and took a slow boat to China.

    Imagine Shanghai in the twenties....

Tell me .. tell me .. tell me - Shanghai in the twenties - bet that was 'something else'. You being funny about 'a slow boat to China' ?? : ) Lol

Better message me - than get chucked out for 'non conformism' to topic ... the other guy is still trying to work out what to do with his teeth. smile.png . Oldies are interesting to me ... and i miss my Dad too. : )

  12. Go for the 1920's then ... i hear they were roaring. I speak of 2012 ... and beyond. : )

......The point being that his teeth and mouth looked good nearly to year 2000....and denture wearers seem to be fine with them.

BTW what's a hygienist? I that something Americans are told is essential to life as we know it ha-ha? :-)

Yes well .. Its' life 'Cheeryble' but not as 'you' know it. smile.png (funny)

Not too sure on anyone else's point of view, just my own ... think you are too sharp not to know what a hygienist is and if not you have Google at your fingertips. I'm not turning this into a pro dental rave Lol.

Also your Dad sounded like a fine man.

  13. No not at all ... in fact i quite like the distinction, rather proud of it. I think it is all about your own self perception as to weather it means something insulting or not. I was referred to as a Guailo from birth - heard it all about me growing up ... i knew no different ... offensive or harmful never. It's a reference - that is all - i for one never ever felt bad about it ... quite the opposite. (Although i do appreciate that i am talking from one perspective and do have empathy with others.)

That said : Business and workplace is a different thing ... and the times march on, weather misunderstood or otherwise. Making money will dictate that .. no need or room for sentiment or 'he said she said' crying.

Anyhow this Farang is sleepy now : ) ... so good night all.

  14. In my opinion ... you should be keeping your remaining 25 to 50% as long as you possibly can, they are serving a purpose. 65 yrs old is not that old, in the grand scheme of things.

The 'jaw bones' resorb over time (upper and/or lower), without any natural teeth to occupy them (to include your crowns). This leads to the sunken/hollow appearance of elderly people and loose fitting Dentures to be updated.

You will still have some kind of care and maintenence towards Dentures and your Oral health - and you would be surpised at the number of people overall that really cannot get on with them, although many manage ok.

I won't mention Implants as costly .. and you did mention cost. It all depends anyway.

I would say to keep what you have got for as long as you can - with regular visits to a hygienist to support this. I would say that prevention is relatively inexpensive and manageable verses the alternative. It should not be painful once you bring things up to scratch and keep on top of it.

But that's just me .. and i am only going by your post.

Edited to say - what are the reasons given for 'Non whitening'. ?

  15. <sigh> This stuff never happens to me. Right to be cautious at 3am though...

    Poor Smokie : ))

oops - forgot to say 'steer well clear'. x

    (edited again for typo)

  16. 'Eaten by a Tiger' ... mmh : ) - well i would suggest that the snakes, leeches, and mozzies are more likely. Is there no way that you would consider taking a guide with you, in your quest for solitude. ? (They don't have to sit on your lap.) What about a jungle lodge (Borneo was my choice) - they are very quiet and if you want to venture out at least you have 'some kind of something' to scream for as you run for your life. : ). Question really is .. are you willing to brave it. I personally couldn't - even after narrowing the odds down on an area - but then again i'm afraid of the dark on my own LOL. Wish you the very best with everything. Would be really interested to hear what you decide, book etc. ?? Tell me more.

Also check out - any shops that deal with this kind of thing ... i believe an electric warning wire is relatively inexpensive, to buy time. They will have loads of good ideas ... that might give you the peace of mind to go for it. What is your planning, so far, on this. ? Very interesting.

    Best - Jude.
