  1. If I have anything sent by DHL or FEDEX, it's very secure and convenient. But very expensive and I get charged high taxes.

I've had good luck with regular mail, and reasonable duty... but a time consuming hassle to pick up at the post office. So, I request that an invoice be attached in a plastic bag to the outside.  Then our postman delivers and collects the tax.  Hope that helps. Cheers, Don

It's a real sham really ! I have a house I can go isolate in in Pattaya if required. I can send the wife and daughter to Nan visit the parents or sister in BKK for two weeks after she stocks up all the cupboards for me to use in 2 weeks, yet I am not allowed to do it.

Sometimes it seems more money driven than health driven

So how do we know you will really stay home and not sneak out to a pub?  Oh, you course YOU wouldn't...but how about that other guy?? ????

I do think they would not  have discharged her if considered infectious.

Her immune system is being stimulated with antibodies from her infection, thus given her an immunity to further severe infection, until vaccine can be given.

To introduced a vaccine into the stimulation of the antibodies, could cause a cytokine storm and make her very unwell.

I agree that if she had Covid and was released from the hospital, she is not infectious.  Should be safe, but use masks and gel.  Cheers

Shameless profiteering in times of a national crisis.

    Money Number One.

I can't believe all the people whining/whinging about the mark-up!!  ????  It's not cheap to run a hospital - tons of records to keep, gov't regulations to follow, staff to train, insurance to pay, supplies to buy, etc.  The mark-up is reasonable.  But if you don't think so, don't order it.  Me?  My wife and I put our money where our mouths are - we ordered it last month. ????

Yes it has.The car is "brand new" and has no issues or damage at all
She made a wrong decision to buy before our marriage and not consulting me
I had some arguments why she bought it, and it was a big mistake

At this moment the car is standing every day in front of the house and NOBODY is drving it
I am in my own country and have managed NOT to pay anything, because of the Covid situation
Toyota agreed to suspend the payment for 3 month (according the law/Covid related)
I NOT need a car.....but she did buy before and now i try to find a solution
I think she need to pay off another 500.000 baht and i will not do this.
I adviced her to sell asap and make arrangements.I will be back in Thailand next week

Michael, I understand she was a naughty girl, but since you are about to come to Thailand, you might want to reconsider.  We are having a 3rd wave of Covid which is much worse than before. Higher infection rates and higher death rates even among younger people. Recently,  32 year old pregnant lady died of Covid!  I wouldn't want to ride around in taxis, or on buses or BTS right now.

If you are legally married and intend to stay that way, you also might soften you approach! ???? Yes, she made a mistake, but, being human you'll make mistakes, too.  What goes around, comes around! If you bail her out this time, she'll be much more tolerant when you make a mistake.  It's only a little over €13,000.  If she isn't worth that much, why did you marry her?

    Good luck,

    Don

I’m just super into cars and they mean a lot to me, so even if it’s hard or difficult or a PITA, etc I will do whatever it takes to make it happen. I just don’t understand how you “can’t” temporarily import a car to Thailand. Maybe there are some agencies that will help me out I don’t know.

I'm a "car guy," too.  So here's my take:  Prices for import "luxury cars" run about 2x the USA price, so you are tempted to do it.  If you do, the Thai bureaucrats will love you.  You're not the first person to try to circumvent Thai taxes, so they will rake you over the coals.  They have a lot more experience than you do and know all the tricks about extracting money from newbies.  And don't forget S-L-O-W.  They will sit at their desk, reading FB, drinking coffee and tell you, "Maybe next month. I'm too busy now. But if you want to pay an expedite fee..."  ????????????

Whether you need a car or not depends on your lifestyle. Ifcyou are a bar-fly, no car needed.  Better take taxis and live longer! ???? I  live in Bangkok with my wife. She drives a 2017 Ford Focus 1 5 turbo that's fun too drive.  I drive Ford Ranger Wildtrak Bi-Turbo that drives well for a pickup.  Drive the car around town and the Ranger on road trips.  Works for us.

    Good luck, Don

P.S. Don't believe all the naysayers, we've owned 4 Fords since 2011. Service has been great! ????

registration at local hospitals, might be some designated ones.

also each province suppose to have their own online application. The mentioned site was only for bkk.

even if you are in bkk, you can still go to your hospital or the nearest one.

the gov promised free treatment for all covid cases. The problem is with hospitels, they are from around 40k for 14 days. Health insurance covers it, but you can get additional covid insurances.

in the meantime do flu shot and other shots recommended for your age

I went to register at the private hospital in BKK that has my records yesterday.  Told, "Sorry  we can't do that!" ???????????? SNAFU!

  8. If you retain your US citizenship:

    1. Get a good mail forwarding service. Don't rely on friends or relatives - they will eventually get tired of it.  Or forget at worse time!

    2. Keep at least one US bank account.

    3. Keep your US credit cards. They usually have much lower limits here and can be more difficult to obtain, especially if you don't have a good job.  Use your US address for billing.  Pay online from your US bank account.

    4. Keep a USA mobile phone number and use it when you use your credit cards (hotels, airlines, Amazon, etc.)  If you use your Thai phone number, it won't match your USA billing address, and your charge will be rejected.  I keep an AT&T number for about $60/month.

    5.  File your US income tax (if any) online using Turbotax.  It's easy if you follow the step-by-step directions.

    Good luck,

    Don

  9. We have Bangkok license plates, which is a Dark Red Zone.  Just drove past Surin to Si Sa Ket and back a few days ago.  No issues.  Only check points were to cite speeders.  Do watch your speed - portions of Route 24 are posted at 90 kph and that appears to be enforced.  (All about income; not traffic safety.)  Most of Route 24 is 4-lane divided highway in excellent condition.  Some construction areas.  Traffic was very light.  Were able to eat in restaurants during the whole trip.

Can't comment about conditions leaving or reentering Chonburi.

    Best of luck.

If you are working in Bangkok then I would suggest that the last thing you want is a car that you drive. Unless you have a death wish lot's of money for "accidents" and love sitting behind the wheel of a car in traffic.

If it was me I would seriously look at using the BTS MRT.  for those times that you need a driver you can always get a taxi to do it.

When I first came here I needed transport and found that it was a whole lot easier and nicer to hve a driver on call that came picked me up and rove me to my location waited for me then returned me to my original location.  Sitting in the back seat with my laptop going over things was a whole lot nicer than sitting in BKK rush hour traffic.

Disagree with the above. My wife owns a house on the northern edge of Bangkok where we have lived for 18 years.  Bought a new pickup 3 weeks after arriving.  Now I'm on my 4th pickup and my wife is on her 2nd car.  We drive everywhere and are still alive and  uninjured.  Don't be afraid; just be careful.  Of course accidents can happen, but if you don't drink and drive, you chances are much better.  Good luck!

  11. I've had Mitsubishi W305Q (last letter changes with updates) and have had the surging problem a number of times.  The problem is adjustment.  Find a guy who knows what he's doing and he'll fix it in 15 minutes.  I guy who doesn't know may never fix it.  Once properly adjusted it should run OK for years.

    Good luck,

    Don
