I have searched the forum for answers and it is not an easy job trying to find stuff on here ....
HI, doing this for a friend. He is thinking of retiring here with his wife, how would it work for the two of them? Would it be best for one to get it first and then the other or both together? How much cash will they need in the bank, is it twice the B800,000 in sperate accounts - that seems excessive to me, two can live quite a bit cheaper than one, especially with the wife around. Any help appreciated!

And that is the fault of the Grab people? You cannot blame them that they don't have to pay anything (not sure, but I'll take your word about that). You cannot blame them that the Songtaew drivers invested a large sum and a potentially bad "investment"; there are no guarantees in business after all. I live in Chiangmai, but since we have our own truck I have never had to take Grab or a Songtaew here. However, when I am in Phuket I do take Grab because the taxi "mafi" there is outrageous with refusing to turn on meters and trying to charge 200/400 Baht for a 1-2km quick ride, etc.
I am not unfeeling towards the Songtaew guys for trying to make a living, but this all seems very much like how the US airlines are up in arms against the GCC airlines. Afraid of competition. I really do believe more choices lead to better service and experience for the customers.
Is the solution makes the Grab folks pay the same licensing fees? I don't know. But ... again and again competition in the market places always proves to be the best way.
You are right about Phuket, lol. I live there now but used to live in Chiang Mai and did use the Songtaew quite often. The trucks themselves are quite expensive also as they have to be a certain way, they can't just paint any truck red and use it. The structure of the transportation was something that everyone abided by there and suddenly freebooters show up paying nothing having no regulations, I would be pissed too. When needed here in Phuket I also use Grab, they are just too easy and you know up front how much you are going to pay. Chiang Mai is a different world and you know how Thai love their rules, but things are changing.

Sorry ... then what are they all getting pissy about with Grab? What is wrong with competition and a bit of free market?
These guys have to get them licensed with a local authority that costs about B250,000 if my memory serves me right. They have a lot of expenses including yearly dues to pay. The grab people pay nothing but take the business.

I can see most of you dont know your butt from your head and just want to scream out how much you hate Thailand. These guys are not taxi mafia. They run simi routes but will detour to get you close to your end stop. The first klic or two is only B20 then it is B40, you ask the guy before getting in and then pay when you get off. I have waved them down and asked how much to make a special run to the airport with no stops or picking up of other riders and got quoted less than a B100 and when I said I would pay B200 they were very happy to get me there. these are not taxies - these are hop on hop off mass transit.

Actually Thai tax code specifically says pensions are taxable income.
Lets also be honest, many pensions are specifically set up to either not pay tax at time of contribution, pay reduced rates of tax, or to defer taxation until claimed when incomes are lower. So dependant on the pension scheme and country, no taxes are frequently not already paid on pensions.
Many countries have tax agreements on pensions, Thailand is one of them with my country, so no tax owed.

Thanks for all the replies. I think we can all agree that Thailand could make good use of any tax they collected from something like this, but until they make it a real thing and provide a platform it will not happen. I for one would readily register myself and pay tax, even without a specific visa for it, for the work I do on the comp just to stay legal and to pay my fair share as I am already here legally. By paying taxes it might also allow a person to access things like medical and or pensions.

I have a question. I am living here legally and work on the internet. I have a Thai bank account and was wondering if there is any problem getting a foreign company to make deposits directly to my account? Would it raise any flags or problems for me? Would anyone want to know why I was getting money or want me to pay anything for receiving it? Thanks.

They may still have it shown on their website but whether it can still be done is a different story.
They have a US phone number. They get you a 90 day to get into Thailand, then after the money is seasoned they get the retirement. A fairly expensive way of doing it, but for the first time it was worth it to me.

That is no longer possible since the honorary consulates they dealt with no longer issue non-o visa for being over 50 for retirement.
Don't mean to argue with you ubonjoe, but this link takes you to the page on siam legal it is still valid.

Did not know that, been 7 years since I did it that way, have done it on my own since then.

Hi Tim,
I would be interested in helping you out.
Please send me a PM with more details and we can maybe work something out.
Great, look forward to hearing from you. Tim

Google Siam legal, they will do the whole thing for you for around $800, that is what I did a few years back for my first retirement visa. Did it from the states, they get you a 90 day that is commuted in Thailand after you get there, no hospital no criminal records check.

Hi! Could not find a forum that covered things like this, so here I am.
I enjoy writing and enter maybe 4 short story contests a year. These contests are time critical - meaning they start one day and sometimes need to be submitted within 48 hours, one gives me a week. My problem is that I have suffered a brain injury that makes punctuation and or grammar sometimes elusive. I have tried tapping my friends on the other side of the world, but the time critical issue often leaves my final drafts unchecked, and hours between sending them something and receiving it back. I am wondering if there is anyone that might enjoy working with me every now and then. Thanks, Tim.

I have been hit in the eye by a hi pressure water gun in Chiang Mai, a white bunghole that did it on purpose an thought it was funny. It is sposed to be a fun time, not something that arss holes can take special pleasures in.

So, as i am changing homes, i will go to phuket with a TM 28 stating such, also with a new TM 30 showing the new address, copy of my lease, copy of landlords id card, copy of Taam bien baan and a POA (so landlord does not need show up)
and i HOPE am good to go. :-)
I did the same a month ago and only took 28, a copy of my lease and the landlords id and the house card, did not need the poa and you won't need the Tm30.

I just did a Tm30 at Phuket on Monday after returning from abroad. All I gave him was the Tm30 form filled in only on the front and my passport and he did his thing and that was that. It was a madhouse in there though and I had to wait about an hour or so. A guy came back into the waiting area and stood in front of everyone an tore up his number and threw the remains on the floor and walked out, that was fun.

Yesterday, in Thalang, rd 4027, there was a bike with sidecar exactly like the one in the pic above. There was a blond woman, western, sitting on a box with nothing to hold onto being driven around. Looked so odd that I noticed.

On the subject of Honda, they just released their all-new PCX! But, from what I can see it is the same bike as last year, even the crapy drum break on the back and combi-brakes with no ABS, those combi-breaks are accidents waiting to happen on sand or loose gravel.

I am in Phuket and just got back from a trip abroad, am still at the same address I was before leaving but went in and submitted a tm-30. Asked the guy if I really had to do this and he said yes, no cost. I filled it out myself with no POA.

Can't be a U turn. Looks like he was turning right across traffic and was looking where he wanted to go in stead of where traffic was coming from. Not knowing how fast traffic can clip along on that part of the road can be a last mistake for biker.
-
Could anyone post a map showing where these intersections are? I can never find a road address in Thailand and the news stories never show a map, lol.

To me, that sounds like a stuck thermostat or a blockage of some sort. Does not sound normal to me.

If you have a wild dog problem, buy a slingshot and start chasing them off. At first, they will come back as they think they are king, and they will look at you like your some kind of idiot for messing with them. But, if you keep at it every time they show up they will move on. You can buy one by searching on lazada.co.th.
