  1. Went along today. Arrived at 10am and about 1h15m turn around. Cost me 240THB for my 4th-hand cbr150r, declared sale price 27k

fwiw the woman at the counter would only accept my original proof of address letter sad.png (Cost me 2800THB from the Wireless Rd British embassy this time around)

  2. There are several parts shops in Sukhumvit 71 just up on the LHS past subsoi Pridi 15. Further down 71 on the same side there's also a seat shop - I think it's at top of Prodi 29 (opposite a big school and mosque). There are other parts places further down 71 before you get to the bridge over Klong Saen Saeb.

The seat shop sounds promising. Will check it out and let you know

Yep, found it on google maps street view- it is indeed opposite the mosque, a little bit further South from Pridi 29

  3. I need some new mirrors and possibly want to put a new saddle on my carb CBR150R.

I have been to Paddock before but can't remember whether they do this sort of thing, seem to remember it being mostly helemts and jackets.Isn't there a shop next door too?

Any other shop suggestions close to Sukhumvit? Does the Honda garage on phrakanon stock non-OEM parts like mirrors?

    Cheers

  4. Sweet, read through all that and feel a lot clearer now. Just need to put some km under my belt and try and get the feel of the bike bearing those numbers in mind.

And advice on practising emergency stops though? Do I want to pull the clutch all the way in immediately, or leave it out a little to use the engine breaking?

  5. Hi all

Finally got my hands on my used cbr150r. Haven't discovered any hidden surprises after day 2 so growing in confidence:)

I'm learning to drive manual so have a few questions, some (all) of which may be stupid:

    1) Can you feather the clutch in gears besides 1st? Like if going over a speed bump in gear 2 I've been feathering. But in a car my instructor (10 yrs ago) stressed that with manual transmission cars they are designed to only have the clutch feathered in 1st gear. I suspect it is fine with wet clutch motorcycles, but want to run it by you guys

    2) With my bike the neutral light works when the bike is first turned on, but if I change it into first and back into neutral once the ignition is running, the light doesn't come on. Can anybody confirm if old carb 150s are all like this? Or if this is a minor defect :/

    3) Does anyone ever look at RPM to know when to switch up or down? I have a full-face and am not sure I could hear when the revs are too high under my helmet

    Thanks guys

  6. Cool thanks everyone.

It appears most the CL scammers are the buyers, not the sellers, for obvious reasons.

But when it is a seller, its delivery-after-payment 98% of the time. If you see the seller and bike in person, seems difficult to be scammed from this point.

    What's a police offer?

  7. A couple of bikes have caught my eye on craigslist.

It's occurred to me that there is such a thing as a craigslist scammer, and I have no idea how this would play out in the case of purchasing a used motorcycle.

In particular posts like this exist on the bikes page: http://bangkok.craigslist.co.th/mcy/4866669171.html

Does anyone have any insights into the bangkok craigslist used motorcycle world? What 'scams' are out there?

    Cheers

  8. The cam chain tensioner was THE big issue on the Phantom....can't recall anything else really jumping out.

As mentioned, the carb'd CBR is the best bet for in BKK riding. Splits lanes like nobody's business and plenty of power. Also stupid easy to work on so that if anything comes up, you don't have to worry too much about the local grease monkey's wrenching on it....well any more than a local grease monkey wrenching on your bike causes concern.

One thing I would definitely check before buying a carb'd CBR is if it has an aftermarket CDI. If it does...don't bother. I believe all of those CDI removed the rev limiter. Who knows how many times that bike was taken past the point it should have been.

I am not confident I could identify an after-sales CDI box. Do you have any tips?

  9. These 2 bikes are readily available on the used market in Bkk.

I am wondering how the riding and ownership experience will be different. Is one likely to break down more than the other?

Which one do people reckon is better between wing mirrors on sukhumvit road?

  10. I will buy a new bike but I'm going to hang onto the Click.

I have the option of putting a 7cm wide rim on the back plus a higher quality (Michelin) tyre for basically 2,000THB. The current back rim is 5.9cm wide. My assumption is that it will make for a smoother ride at the cost of a small amount of acceleration. Have Honda selected their optimal tyre dimensions, or are they keeping costs low? I weigh 75kg fwiw, so perhaps their optimal is actually suboptimal for my purposes.

Not a big decision but would like a few insights from more experienced folk.

  11. My Click is *almost* fine for my purposes.

Just on the occasion where I push it to 80km/h+ on a major road, I have to read the road a bit more than I'd like to. Its also annoying going in and out of cracks.

I'm wondering if a larger wheel is a good idea. Is this a common thing? I have a friend who put heavier duty wheels on his PCX but that's a different, higher spec bike.

Is it even cost effective? My bike is only worth about 15,000THB today.

    Thanks
