  1. Has anyone managed to remortgage a UK property to raise funds for a Thai property?

I am a UK non resident working in Oman for 6 weeks and then I live with my Thai wife in Thailand for 3-4 weeks break. I have a type O family visa for Thailand.

I have a UK property worth approximately 125000 GBP. I still have 50000 GBP to pay on the mortgage.

I am looking to remortgage or to obtain a personal loan so that I can buy a house in Thailand. I have 20000 GBP savings in the UK.

I have been employed in the same company for 15 years and earn 47000 GBP a year not including and bonuses.

So far my current bank has told me I need to be a resident of the UK to obtain a loan or remortgage.

My wife does not earn enough to get a mortgage currently and Thai banks are reluctant to lend to me.

Has anyone had success with offshore banks to raise funds?

    Looking for ideas. Thanks.

  2. I am in the process of assisting my wife obtain a UK general visit visa. This will be the first time she has applied for a visa to the UK. My question is what is the chances that she would be granted a multiple entry long term visa for 1 year, bearing in mind this is her first time to apply?

    Our circumstances are as follows.

I am a British citizen living and working abroad. I am currently a UK non-resident. I work in Oman on the oil fields for a 6 week period and then return to Thailand where My wife and I rent a house together in Koh Samui.

We have been married for 1 year and have been living together for 1.5 years. I am currently visiting Thailand on a non resident type O visa.

My wife is a Thai national and is not currently working at my request as I moved her from her job in Bangkok to Samui. I support her financially and will be her sponsor for our visit to the UK. She has only traveled out of Thailand once when we when to Bali on a holiday.

I would like us to visit the UK a couple of times a year or more, if I can afford it, of a period of 2 weeks per visit and it would aid us to have a multiple visit visa.

We are okay regarding the process and the documentation required. The main problem I can see is proving that she has a real reason to visit the UK regularly as it states in the guidelines. The reason we will visit is to see my family and a little tourism. We have no intention of moving back to the UK to live.

So has anybody been successful in obtaining a multiple visit visa for a year or more the first time they applied?

    Many thanks.

  3. Where are you from and do you already have a driving license from another country already?

Depending on the country you can swap it for a Thai license without having to do the test.

The transportation office offer lessons if you do need them, not sure if they have English speakers but good to ask. Passing the test is easy. Just need to be able to reverse straight and perform a parallel park.

  4. Apologies if wasn't clear. I do have a multiple entry type o non immigrant visa which is valid until September 2013.

My wife has since been in contact with a tour operator that specializes with day trips over to Laos and they have confirmed that I don't need a re-entry permit and I will be granted 90 days when I enter back into Thailand. I will ensure that my visa number is clearly stated.

  5. Thanks for advising about re-entry permits.

I have been doing some reading on the subject. I appears that if an individual is in possession of a multiple entry visa then the re-entry permit is not required (which makes sense and why pay the extra for the multiple in the first place otherwise ).

If your visa is single entry then the re-entry permit is needed, otherwise your visa will be cancelled.

As I have the multiple, I can leave and return without the need for extra paperwork.

    Thanks.

  6. I'm planning a 1day visit to Laos. I will not stay overnight there, just visit for the day. I will stay in Nong Khai.

I have read that when re-entering Thailand only 15 days will be given. This obviously applies to a tourist visa but I have a type o non immigrant visa.

Will I only be granted 15 days on re-entry to Thailand?

    I am a UK national.

    Thanks.
