The hole in the picture is the microfone...
But jumping into the Recovery mode by holding down the Home and Power
buttons should get him to when he can select Factory Reset if desired.correct
-
I don't have a V972 (I have a V971) but the attached V972 picture shows the reset hole. I expect you power on the tablet and then use something like a straighten paperclip to stick into the reset hole. This basically does a Factory Reset.
........................................
Good luck
Dangerous advice.
If he uses this hole to reset the device, he will need "good luck" indeed.....to not destroy the microphone...
This isn't the "reset button", the V972 doesn't have any.
You have to press the "power" button for ~8-10 sec. This will shut down the tablet in any case.
PS: what Firmware version do you use?

Buy her a Wave 125i....problem solved.

on my W7/64 Desktop, the Onda is detected by the Phoenix Suit, BUT I was never able to flash an image.
I used the front USB sockets...(?)
Got some fancy, useless error messages, but I didn't investigate any further.
After all, it's working with my W7/32 Laptop without any issues.
After removing the Chinese crap and installing CWM, it's a (meanwhile) reliable device.
I hope, there will be a decent firmware out soon....
PS: I tried the "Supernova 3.0" firmware too, but found it very unresponsive and the browser needed ages to render a website.
All available firmwares inc. custom-roms for the Onda V972 - Click here (XDA-Developers)

When I check the onboard update it's says it up to date (Wi-Fi on). I checked onda's update page and I didn't get any wiser?
V972 Firmware 1.35 (ways better than 1.20)

The survivors blamed the driver for reckless speeding....
I hope this

bought mine at pantip plaza = 7900Baht

Well, after the V972 became crappy slow (see two posts above), I decided to flash it again.
But this time with formatting.
What a difference in speed in responsiveness!
So never ever flash an V972 without formatting....
-
As a "tinkerer", I installed Ondas new 1.33 Firmware, but decided not to format, so I kept "root" from the 1.32.
The stock Browser is
crappyextremely laggy/slow and freezes the whole device sometimes.Even my slow Sanei N90 with A10 single core's browser is (a little bit) faster.
And compared to my Imobile IQ1 (dual core), the V972's browser is three times slower and the scrolling on picture-intensive pages three times laggier...
I tested Firefox, Chrome and Dolphin too....Better, but far away from the speed of the IQ1
Not sure what the problem with the V972's internet browsing is.
Otherwise, "big" apps, like XBMC are running nice and smooth.
-
Usually, a thinner case means a thinner battery too.
That won't improve the battery life that much.
Unfortunately, most people look at the case design, number of CPU-Cores, etc. first.
First, Onda should improve the Firmware for their A31 platform.
I own a V972, great hardware...but the Onda Firmware is far away from using the full potential of this hardware.
I read in another forum, they even disabled the "Energy-saving" module.
Desperately waiting for a CM10 for the Onda.

And among German, Dutch, etc...

I would say if you could just open a movie from sd card, doesn't neccesary have to be a live stream, keep wifi on and screen set to never sleep until you get the warning low battery
Onda V972.
I played a 2h5min .mkv 3 times. (Mx player)
Wifi on. Brightness was on medium setting.
After ~6h15min, there was 16% battery life left.
I think, 7 hours of movie playback should be realistic.
But who wants to watch 7h movies on such a small display....

It is only waiting for Veltins to post the battery life of his Onda v972.
Hmm, as I use the tablet mainly as a XBMC mediacenter with connected power supply, it's hard to say something about the battery life.
But I could test it via MX-Player, playing a TV live-stream with Wifi "on".
That should give a "first clue".
I don't play any games, so no chance to test it.
But feel free to ask me, if you have any questions about the device...

^^ good question....I assume TB won't even install...but not sure.
The first thing, I did with all my Android devices, (Phones and tablets), was to root them.
I never tried to install TB without root.
But maybe somebody can try to install TB on a non-root and report
-
Can you guys please make a mini review (pro's and con's) of your onda v972 and Ainol Novo 9 Spark please?
What did you like, what you didn't like? Hows battery life? Please try to be objective.
It seems, that they are almost identical?
-
Please note most Onda Tablets come Pre-Rooted,
Maybe most of them, but definetely not all!
The original (1.0.2) firmware came non-rooted.
In you original post you clearly stated that you installed this rom to remove the chinese apps.Wrong again! Why you don't you read my post(s)?
I never stated, that I installed any ROM to remove the chinese apps!
I wrote that:
Difference between ROM and SCRIPT is clear?
Next you can take a look at this review of the Onda 972 and take note of the screenshot from the apps like Titanium back up that are installed already.Titanium back up needs root
In the screenshots I can see, that this tablet isn't stock.
Many additional apps installed and I can't find any hint in the text, that the tablet came pre-rooted.....
But maybe I overlooked something
-
Onda and Ainol tablets come rooted from factory.I guess Veltins confuses installing a custom rom with rooting.
Simply not true.
So a lot of people at XDA, Slatedroid, Androidhilfe, etc. seem to be confused and don't know the difference between a custom rom and root
You shouldn't guess too much, if you don't know the facts.
From the XDA Onda V972 thread:
ROOT_Limpieza_Logo_V3 - This script, created by the Spanish user in the vast htcmania not only ROOT device, but also removes the (retaining a backup) Chinese application, and also sets the Nova Launcher. And also changes Boot AnimationRead my post again.
Fact is: my V972 came unrooted!
It *may (or even not)* depend on the model/firmware version/whatever, if the device is rooted or not!
However, the rooting is easy and you can't brick the V972, as it's always flashable by "PhoenixSuite"
-
well, finally I have bought the Onda V972 from digilife at Pantip Plaza.
I paid 7900 Baht.
And I am very impressed about the build-quality. (Aluminium back cover!)
It came with Android 4.1.1.
I updated it with the last (1.32) Firmware.
I rooted it (because of Adaway) and installed CWM.
The root script from here also removed the Chinese apps and also some Play store restrictions.
After that, I installed XBMC and XBMC runs with absolutely smooth with ~75-80 frames/second!!
All in all a real bargain.

...........
The actual phone manufacturers will be there, i-Mobile, Oppo, HTC, Samsung, Nokia etc etc and I am sure that there will be some very good offers with discounts free gifts etc, website address below for you:
www.thailandmobileexpo.com/
Interesting, as I am in the market for a new tablet.
What's the best/easiest way to the expo (from Pattaya)? Bus/Mrt/BTS?
I think, travelling with own car doesn't make much sense...
-
Well the S3 might have a better performance, better screen, etc.
But not a 14000 Baht more "better performance, screen, etc", compared to my IQ1.
GPS Navigation, website rendering and everything else, works smooth on the IQ1, so no need to spend three times the price.
And at least, the S3 has not even Dual-Sim.
-
what is CW... ??I am also looking into buying the IQ1. Did you have any problems with it so far?
No problems so far. I can strongly recommend it.
-
But.... the phone isn't rooted
My mistake...Altzheimer
The boot.img from me, is a modified unlocked/unsecured bootloader, which makes it possible to successfully root the device with nearly any method.
I used the MtkDroidTools from here to root it.
You can't root the IQ1 with the stock boot.img.
But never mind, at least it works.
Does the CWM recovery work for you?

This has nothing to do with ADB.
And I used Win7/64 too.
- Turn the phone completely off (maybe remove the battery and put it back). Don't start the phone!
- Start SP-Flashtool, load the scatter file etc... Click download.
- Now connect the phone with the USB-Cable to your PC, but don't start the phone!
- Now, a "found new Hardware" notification should come up, asking for drivers.
- The needed drivers are in the sub-folder "driver\Win7" in your Sp-Flashtool directory.
- Install the drivers and repeat the "phone completely off - connect via USB" procedure. This should work
- Turn the phone completely off (maybe remove the battery and put it back). Don't start the phone!
I-Mobile IQ1 - USB connector dead (now only charges)
in Mobile Devices and Apps
Posted
From one day to another, it seems that the USB-connector on my IQ1 died.
The phone is charging, but it doesn't recognize, that it is plugged to a PC.
Neither "mass storage mode", nor ADB debugging works.
Tried several USB-cables, three different PC, but nothing.
Cleaned the USB-jack with contact cleaner and compressed air...nothing.
It is now ~8 months old, was only 6000 Baht, so not worth the "guarantee-hassle" (especially here in TH).
I know, I could use ADB and file transfer with wifi, but phone can't be reflashed/reanimated, etc, after tinkering.
Has anybody noticed similar issues with an I-Mobile?
I ask, because I tend to donate the phone and buy an IQX.
