  1. I can say without any doubt what so ever that whatever demons haunted Rory during last year, they're gone now. I spoke to one of the caddies in Dubai last night and the word around the tour currently is; Rory is smiling all the time. Rory is swinging freely. Rory is confident. Rory is positive.

Watch out for Rory 2014... remember where you heard it first.

Didn't look too good Day 4 in Dubai !!

All around him were losing their heads, so instead of pulling away, chucks it in !!!

The year is young, but !! that was a golden opportunity spurned. If he repeats that type of piss poor effort, the word around the tour will be Rory, he could have been a champion !!!!!!

  2. The opportunity is passed to do anything now. Mentioning it to the farang partners may have been a good starting point to raise the issue, while they were still on the course. They may have considered not submitting the scorecard preferable to disqualification. Otherwise, you have an obligation to protect the rest of the field & should have reported it to organisors.

I would say in response to RS237, that rules are rules & there is nothing "anal" about playing within them & expecting everyone in the field to be playing within them also.

btw I am 100% sure my clubs are within the regulations, but I do understand why you would make reference to this.

  3. Thaijett you have previously negatively commented on this subject, you have stated you play at Phoenix 2 or 3 times a year,if the members and none members like me are successful in getting charges reduced you will benefit. This forum is one of the mediums they have used to garner support, very successfully. Please if you can't be supportive save your snide comments for another less worthy subject.

Oh Fisherman194 , PLEASE forgive me for having a different opinion from yours, which (of course) is correct & should be the only 1 allowed on this forum.

That my opinion differs from others does NOT give you the right to attempt censure of my comments.

So I will say to you, "Please if you can't be supportive stop whining passifier.gif , save your snide comments relentless whinging for another less worthy subject someone who values your opinion" !!!

  4. We have young professional golfers visiting us. They are preparing to play on tours

in Korea and Japan. They play over 27 holes every day, and do additional jogging,

cycling, etc. When they were told by Phoenix that there is a new compulsory golf cart

requirement, we had to take them to the Thai Navy course.

Soon they will relocate to Baan Chan to be closer to Eastern Star, Emerald, Green

Valley and the Navy courses. They will not return to Phoenix as long as the shocking

prices and new cart rule are in place.

OR Laem Chabang, Burapha, Siam CC or Plantation, Silky Oak or St Andrews !!

ALL of which have compulsory cart rules !! for normal visitors (& members in some cases)

The cart rule & "shocking prices" are 2 separate issues for non members,

please don't try to sensationalize it any more & make it something it is not !!

  5. I admire his vision, despite his chequered past. I can't see Monday not being violent. Thailand has a history of getting things done violently, and I can't see how change can be done peacefully. So we shall see. One thing is clear. Thaksin won't give up, no matter how badly things are stacked up against him, so i cannot see it ending peacefully. All those who think the election should go ahead and rattle on about upholding the law/democracy/etc, obviously have no idea how things work on Thailand. It really isn't as simple as that.

    Not like you, hey ??

  6. I almost always tip 500 baht. If the caddy is particularly bad or annoying, maybe 300.

I also always split any winnings with the caddy... we usually play a 100 baht near-pin contest on all par 3's, carrying over if no one wins a given hole. When I win that, I give half to the caddy.

Note... sometimes we also play the Par 3 near-pin game and let the caddy of the winner have all the cash. We explain it to them up front... it's amazing how interested and serious they get when they know they stand to win some cash! It's fun.

As to giving them extra for winning a bet with your partner, you can guarantee that your caddies are also betting amongst themselves. They may be just betting on the value of your winnings but most caddies spend their spare time gambling dominoes and cards in the caddy shack, so they'll be having side bets and showing real interest in your performance - not a bad thing really.

What club is that at ??

"you can guarantee that your caddies are also betting amongst themselves." I have been playing here >10 years at numerous local clubs, with several different groups & I would say that statement is INcorrect !!

"guarantee" a strong word that is so far off the mark, it is bordering on ridiculous !!

  7. I played Blue Sapphire in October and had a look over at the Grand Prix course and have been dying to play it ever since. Got some friends who have played it and they say it's up there with Amata Springs.

That is a BIG call !!

I have played Amata Springs, & it is out there on it's own when compared to other courses I have played in Thailand. Local Siam CC & Plantation members think their course/s is good, but does not hold a candle to Amata Springs, IMO.

What sort of cost is GP ?

  8. Thanks to all you fellow golfers who have avoided Phoenix Golf & Country Club since November 1st. I know it is a struggle for those of you who relish playing there , but you have to remain strong to the principle of right and wrong.

How strange that our situation seems to mimic the country's!

Very few groups play Phoenix in the High season, as it has always been overpriced thru that period. Over the past few years I have played there 2 or 3 times each year in their Low season Sport Days when it is realistically priced. Otherwise it is purely a tourist trap, & members, of course!

With your comment "How strange that our situation seems to mimic the country's!" Do you mean where a minority (in Phoenix's case, members) expect the rest of the (golfing) community to change the mind of those in power (the management/owner).

Include me out of that, why do you now expect others to fight your battles? Previously the members were not interested in other groups, in fact decrying that they made Phoenix crowded for them sad.png . I do not concur with your thin end of the wedge prophecy, Phoenix is a 1 off due to several contributing factors, including close proximity to Pattaya, and particularly Ban Amphur, ie Ambassador.

I wish the members no personal ill will in their pursuit, just don't be a hypocrite, now that things are taking a turn for the worst, when before your ilk bemoaned visitors.

  9. I think this particular officer would be better spending his time going through his data base for all those who have no type of visa at all it appears there are 100s if not thousands of falangs who have overstayed by years and have never bothered to re-apply for a visa that is a hell of a lot 20,000 baht overstay fines as a falang on an extension of stay I contribute to the Thai economy every day by spending my well earned retirement money at the local shops/markets as well as paying for my garden to be taken care off.

    Are you still here?

I thought you were going to Cambodia, Phillipines, wherever, or were you just pissing in the wind?

Still time to go, you have heard the saying, "talk the talk, & walk the walk"

  10. "A defiant Suthep on Tuesday called for the creation of an unelected administration to run the country, in the clearest indication yet that the demonstrators are seeking to suspend the democratic system.

"If we demolish the Thaksin regime ... we will set up a people's council which will come from people from every sector," he said. "Then we will let the people's council pick good people to be the prime minister and ministers."

What a crock, the Government was elected by the majority of the people, if Suthep had won the election, would he be stepping down, when those who didn't vote for him had a protest?

    I don't think so !!

  11. Why should a falang married to a thai be treated any different from what i have seen thai woman seem to cost more to keep than a falang wife think it is time to move onto the next door neighbours Malaysia, Cambodia or even the Philippines.

Off you go then, I am sure you will be missed.

or is that just some bravado there?

You ask why, why not? As am I, you can follow the rules of the country in which you are staying, or go, simple really !!

  12. I have played the Valley & Highlands courses several times. If you are looking to play golf, I would recommend the Valley course as more pure golf, while the Highlands is quite spectacular ib some places, I would consider it a bit Mickey Mouse in others.

The par 5, 3rd hole on Valley course is the only hole that lets the course down (IMO), it is not impossible, but for amateur golfers you need luck on your side to make a par. All the rest of the holes provide a challenge, dependent on which tees used. I have played from the Tiger, Blue & White, it is pretty much all you can handle from any. Long walk between some tees, but enjoyable, I thought.

  13. It sticks in the craw that the coup was an unmitigated disaster, and that at every subsequent opportunity, a Thaksin affiliated government has emerged when the Thai people have visited the ballot box.

Thaksin can Skype all he likes, he's still a better option than the un-electable Democrats or a military dictatorship, which some posters seem to perversely wish were still in control.

The Thai economy is strong, the currency is strong, tourism is strong and many other factors of Thaksinomics are slowly improving the lives of everyday Thais, despite the ludicrous accusations from the increasingly maligned expat forum community.

Well I hope it remains in your craw because it doesn't bother mine. In fact the coup was needed to remove an individual (no, not a party) who had designs on the type of rule seen in Singapore or Zimbabwe. He never should have been allowed to become PM but his wife & Sanoh made sure of a loaded deck when he lied about his assets. Subsequent events since he was rightly kicked out reveal that he had even more assets abroad than the ones he lied about.

The only sense that he is better than Dems is in corruption. It's the expats who swallow the PTP & red shirt line who need sympathy for aligning themselves with the brainwashed local people.

As for the economy, the view is mixed. The debt is mounting (even excluding over B1tn swept under the carpet), the rice scam is a mess, the 'brilliant' first car subsidy is gridlocking BKK even more, tourism is doing well only if you believe the numbers trotted out without proof. The lives of ordinary Thais would be a dam_n site better off if corruption wasn't such a drawback. Inflation is increasing, hurting the poorest the most - when a government has to 'ask' food producers to hold their prices you always know something is wrong.

I love Thailand & want it to raise it's GDP for all citizens - not just the party & their supporters.

    Zimbabwe!!!

I am sure U have been told a million times not to exaggerate!!!

  14. I would like to know something about this area. Golf courses, sat tv options, things like that. General stuff, type of land, price of land, U know what I mean! This general area did not seem to come under CM or Cent T/L.
