  1. The OP or his 'friend'!!! was obviously on teh turn before he entered the country an dnow blames THAILAND for maing him like men???

    Is he crazy?

Tell yourself, sorry, your 'friend' to face up to his life.

    Plenty of gays these days.

Attraction of a straight man to a ladyboy is generally heterosexual. Doesn't make him bisexual.

  2. Thanks to you all for your comments.

Money laundering will not be an issue as all funds originated in the UK and can be proven.

Linking the accounts is the same process as used in the UK by Paypal so no issues there.

No issues with the authorities thinking anyone is working in Thailand as the account will be in Thai person so no work permit needed and tax paid on earnings anyway.

Thanks again all, something to think about.

  3. Hello

My mate purchased land with his wife in 2007 in Issarn. They then built a house the following year (2008) they don't use it much.

In October this year they (wifes name) have owned the land 5 years and they want to sell up and buy closer to the coast.

The question I cant answer is about the 5 year rule with regards to business tax payable of 3.3% if you sell before 5 years.

So, does the 5 year period commence on purchase of the land or on another date if you build a house on the land?

I say from the date the land was initially registered but look forward to others opinions.

    Thank you

  4. Hi all

I posted a while ago about transferrinf condo sale funds to UK an dI'd like to thank all for advice etc.

I have a further query some may have experience of.

When you buy a house/condo etc. from new, you need to get the electricity connected.

From what I remember I paid a connection fee and a deposit if 12,000bt as a deposit for the meter.

I forgot to ask my buyer for this, in the past now but is this correct? In that I mean, when you sell etc. the electricity meter depo should be passed from the new owner to yourself (if you remember to ask!!)?

If not, you can have it removed and the depo returned to you then the new occupier will need to again get another installed and pay the deposit.

The reason why I ask is my mate is selling a condo in BKK and I want to tell him about this as I lost out!

  5. My friends neighbor got his water meter taken away only 2 days after the due date of the Bill.

This was in Pattaya just last month.

Used to be you were allowed 2 bills before cut off but then they started running out of meters to supply the increased demand so I guess just cut off immediately now so they can re-use the meter straight away.

I think I am correct in saying that when you are connected to the electcity via a meter you pay an installation fee plus a deposit for the meter, something like 12,000bt deposit, so when you move or sell the next person gives you the deposit money or you have the meter removed and then then get it reconnected via a fee and deposit. Easier to just let let give you the deposit cash I say.

So, the question is, if you get cut off and your meter is removed do you lose your deposit? If so, is this morally correct?

  6. Thanks for the replies.

In around 2004 i sent the inlaws a Nationwide debit card and everyday they took out the maximum 20,000bt and banked it until we had sent about 4 million odd baht.

In those days it was a free service, took a while to do it but the exchange rates were 68-70+ so we were getting a good deal.

In 2003 I sent about 1.7 million baht for some land purchase (in in laws name) direct to an estate agent. This was a transfer vie Nationwide.

  7. Reminds of me a story my uncle (ex-pilot) told me once. One guy had a few too many drinks, and was getting a little loud / obnoxious. So the flight crew came up with a plan! They decided to feed him loads more alcohol with hopes he'd pass out, and quit being a nuisance.

Suffice to say, didn't quite work out that way, and the police were waiting when the plane landed. smile.png

For the staff I take it that fed the poor chap alcohol of which from you story he wasn't aware? Isn't that tantamount to spiking someones drink and so should the staff not have all been sacked.

I am pretty disgusted at that story.

Was your uncle also in the special forces?

  8. Hello

Please can anyone advise me and the wife?

We sold our condo in Bangkok recently as we have been in the UK 5 odd years now and settled so no need to keep it.

Anyway, we've got just over 4 million in the bank held by the wifes mum (all OK!).

Our question is can the wifes mum transfer the money to my UK account (Nationwide)?

If so, please can I ask a few simple questions?

1). What is the Thai bank fee to send?

2). How long does the transaction take to complete? (reach UK acount)

3). Will the wifes mum need to give a reason for transferring funds?

We will want the money in Thailand exchanged in Thailand to GBP before sending, I believe that this is something the Thai bank can do?

If anyone has other information I should know then that would be gratefully received.

If the transfer is not possible, does anyone have any suggestions?

    Thanks

    Breadbin & wife
