  1. Ever got a taxi at Beijing Capital Airport at 1am in the morning.

Welcome to the City without a Soul.

SP sorry if I missed something but what is the problem with getting taxis at 1.0am?

I have often taken taxis from Guangzhou airport at or close to midnight without any issues - or is it just Beijing?

Never seen a happy cab driver at that hour anywhere on the world ...if I remember correctly you are from the UK ...please post us a happy can driver there at that time so we know paradise still exist somewhere ...you were expecting a beer or a wet towel ? Order a limo instead :-)

BTW ...what about you at 1.10am you were smiling out of that flight and giving out candy floss sticks ?

I was punched by a Beijing taxi driver when I refuse to pay him for taking me on a long route. That was in front of a dozen people. The only time I was assaulted by a taxi driver.

Another time I threaten to report faulty meter after a mid night ride back to hotel. The taxi driver and gang waited till morning for me to go to work. I got into his buddy cab and we had a conversation, commenting how sharp my eyes were to spot it. I wonder if they were worried I actually go to report or was it they wanted to do something's else lol. This is china for you. Never trust them, never will like them.

  2. To be fair, I was very very very angry when all this went down, so I think I really scared him when I threatened legal action (even while I was uncertain of my own abilitiy to see it through). I tried to settle with him but he said he'll pay me in the future once the site makes money. You can understand why I don't believe him.

I also said we could both just walk away if he will take down the site now, but he won't do that either because he said he needs the traffic and momentum we've gained to make money in the future.

Thus, we are at this point now...

So in fact this project was created for the purposes of becoming a profit making scene, a business.

Under Thai law, any foreign run online businesses, whether they make a profit or not, the owners and managers of the site are imposed to apply for work permits if the website is operated within Thailand, regardless of where in the world the server, domain or host is located or from where the profits come from.

This means that you and your so-called partner are considered as working illegally in Thailand if you are both on tourist visas and do not have the prescribed work permits and permissions to operate this online business in Thailand.

    .

Is it really that simple to have a work permit? Just setup a website and operate in Thailand ?

  3. Those of us who moved assets into this "banana republic" in 2005 and went on to buy our cars and condo's with those funds realised a substantial profit subsequently, not only did the assets increase in value but the subsequent currency gain added over 40% profit and without being taxed.

Unless you've cashed out just a "Paper" profit Posted Image

    RAZZ

First car cashed out and profit already take, bought CRV new for 1.2 mill at 70 baht per Pound, sold two years ago for 670k and converted back into Pounds at 45, cost of ownership over seven years, GBP 2,250. CM Condo bought for 6.4 mill at 70, sold for 6.4 mill at 51, now renting. Posted ImagePosted Image

I don see why you should keep using pound as a reference unless you intend to leave thailand for good one fine day.

  4. if you are a woman forigner, better go to Bali, I saw many locals dating white chicks, here I dont see that at all. Only white men, thai chicks.

Also most of the women are single here in BKK, in Europe most of them have boyfriends, here I would say 90 % of womwn are single from my experience or they have a secret gik

Damn I'm in the wrong place

  5. My wife has money from previous employment in Malaysia still in maylasian bank account.

What is the best thing todo with it??

She would prefere to transfer the money to a euro account somewhere and leave for when she needs euros in europe.

Is this possible??? Can thai ppl open offshore bank accounts in europe??

Sent from my GT-N7100 using Thaivisa Connect Thailand mobile app

Previous employment allows her to safe RM120,000 in a bank?

  6. At that hour, I would just book into the hotel opposite the airport - I'm told its aging but reasonable accommodation. I wouldnt want my girlfriend hanging around an airport at ~2am, and nothing really gets going in BKK till 10am the next day. I've climbed out of a cab on Suk Soi 22 at 6am and wondered where the hell everyone was - easy to forget that the city has a very different set of priorities at that hour. Not sure what the aircraft noise is like inside a hotel that close to the airport, but I havent read any complaints - take earplugs just in case.

Having wandered all over Changi Airport trying to find my Thai GF, I envy you this : DM is a much smaller airport ;)

Yup book into Amari don Muang is the way to go at that hour. I did that last month. Check in at 12:30am. The hotel is very well maintained only the design is old. No whatever noise from airport. There is 2 layer of glass window before reaching your room door.

  7. It can never be overstated....Captive wild animals and humans never mix well. Especially those with teeth, claws and tusks designed to maim and kill. As far as I know, these animals can strike at any possible moment. This could be a result of stress, sickness, hunger, or even just a bad toothache. Cases of elephant and crocodile attacks have also been in the news, along with this tiger attack. It's up to us humans to understand the importance of maintaining a safe distance, and stop trusting these numb nuts who say wild animals in captivity are tame and safe to handle.

And humans too especially when money is involved

  8. From the radio interview, it sounds like they suspect the hotel staff of being in on it -- they left their bags behind the desk before checking out so they could go for a 30-minute walk round town.

That is truly scary -- because what can you do about it?

Just this morning the bell boy asked if I would like to leave my luggage behind and collect later. Thank god I didn't. Could have happened to me. And this is the first time any bellboy offered.

  9. They all like to walk around naked in my flip flops though and Im still trying to figure out what thats all about.

Strangely enough I have found this too (flip-flop wearing but not usually naked), get up in the morning and flip-flops gone, she's been wearing them on her morning trip to the market/corner shop.

Flip flops. Just to show the neighbors that they have a ATM at home. That's all.

  10. I agree, it is only natural that CHINA should take control of the whole region. Chinese have been here for generations, longer than any other current population. China Communisium is blending and it would blend the societies easily and do away with the local animosity and petty backstabing and of course the bribes and graft. The loacal ASEAN countires have had century's of fighting and hatered this will NEVER go away. China is also right next door, a neighbour, and it will quickly upgrade roads, rails, airports and the local technologies and quality of life will all go up under Commuist China rule. China has Buddisim as well , so it is a much better fit than the Western Democracies and English Language and secular Chrisitan ways of exisitng. A much better alternative than the wilting ASEAN attempt at futility. Give in now and let the hoardes decend. The future (with China) is bright.

Lol china. Go live there and you know what it's like to be bossed around by the Chinese. I rather be colonized again.

  11. It is a recipe for disaster. It does not benefit ordinary people in any way. It benefits only corporations and big businesses as they will be able to get even cheaper labour. South East Asians should learn from EU experience. Euro as a common currency is an absolute failure. Ordinary citizens paid shouldered all the cost for over bloated EU bureaucratic apparatus, EU parliament and common currency. Life was better before. Some of us still remember.

Realistically speaking, Cambodia, Laos, The Phillipines and Myanmar in particular are at least 20-30 years behind Thailand in terms of infrastructure and economic development. And Thailand is at least 5-10 years behind Singapore. If I were a Singaporean or Thai, I would simply do my utmost to keep their countries independent. ASEAN is not going to benefit them in any shape or form.

I have done business in the Phillipines and you are wrong on that one. Their GDP is amongst the highest in South East Asia refer to http://www.tradingeconomics.com/country-list/gdp-annual-growth-rate

Their English rates are very high which makes it very friendly to do business with. They are doing a lot of outsourcing to english speaking countries and are very good at what they do. This has meant a truck load of capital coming into the country. They also have one of the largest population increases in South East Asia.

    Reference http://www.ari.nus.edu.sg/docs/wps/wps13_196.pdf

Their work ethic is so different from thailands. I have found a strong can do attitude and they strive for perfection, every time.

Manila is huge and has great infrastructure .

Also they don't have the same cultural handicaps such as saving face! (Minimal compared to Thailand)

Other ASEAN countries could learn a lot from this model.

Are you kidding me? Their high GDP is only in the last 2 years and may not last esp another popular celebrity becomes president.

"Strive for perfection", more like ripping you off at every opportunity. We had operations in Phil's, and the amount fraud is more then the sum for the whole group.

Infrastructure? Great? Yeah compare with Laos, Cambodia, mymmar. Annual flooding, horrendous traffic, dirty.
