What is the total number of days, that you can stay in Thailand over a one year period; without getting any special visas.
Just do 30 day entries ?
In USA it is 180 days/year.

This reminds me of an old joke.
Three guys standing over the grave of an old Poker friend. The four of them had just finished playing Poker when he dropped dead from
a heart attack. At the funeral The remaining three guys; give the winning from the night before.
First guy puts an envelope in the coffin containing $ 35,000. Second guy puts an envelope containing $22,000. The third guy, puts an envelope
containing $26,000; but it is a small thin envelope. The other two guys say to him. "Why is your envelope so small ? You should pay your debt,
even if he has died ? " The third man looked shocked. " Of course I paid him in full. " " I didn't have even cash, so I wrote him a cheque ".
Spend it now ! You cannot take it with you !

I've been here for 20 years. About 10 years ago, I determined that some businesses refused to change the way they do business......no return for faulty products, prices not marked, old model products on sale, the, at times, refusal to treat a customer with any degree of respect.
In those cases, sometimes despite convenience or the desire to keep mom&pops alive, I've taken my business elsewhere.
In one particular case, I bought fish, bird, and dog food from a feed store for many years. Despite my ability to speak Thai, the owner never inquired about my family or took any interest in conversation. She never smiled. She never said thank you. I finally stopped going. About a year later, a new pet food store opened nearby. I went. The owner was bubbly, smiling, helpful.......she was the old store's daughter. Different generation....different way of thinking.
I no longer have sympathy when people complain about the old style stores closing....and people flocking to the big name stores.
You should have took the girl out on a date. After the date, stop by the mothers shop. Buy a bag of dog food and a package of condoms Revenge is sweet.

Good that you want to take care of your kids. Better then most Thai fathers.
Hope everything works out for you.
-
Good Deal ?? I bet it is within 500 meters of a school !!!
-
It is all done for the safety of the kid.
I wish you good luck, and safe travels with your son.
Hope your family spoils him in OZ.

Note to OP : In future please change soap/detergent to Beer, Wine, Whiskey; or any other type of Booze for your scam example. Most of the people on this web site do not care about anything else. I wonder how many of the people reading this post, have a beer in their hand right now. The time is 9:05 am currently. For those members please enjoy your Leo, eggs, sausage, and toast and jam.

Ok so let's do the maths then 50 yr old average life conservative 85 so 35 yrs rent our condo in pattaya 7500pm so that's 90,000 per year x 35 yrs 3,150,000.
Rent is only wasted money if you are a young man. Over 50, rent is not wasted money compared to building or buying in Thailand.Bought several houses over the years but never thought I'm ready to die !!!!
Here have took great delight and a lot of pride in building a house which we now live in no rent to pay as my old man once told me rent money is wasted money.
2 bed two bath house including fixtures and fittings just a few bht short of 500,000bht so at 85 I'm 2,650,000 in pocket so how is renting better?? Stable home no moving around rented to rented. Now before you say but I can't own it or land I have a 50 year lease on land from wife (hers as wedding gift from family. I have yellow book which means nothing as such but if things happen and we divorce ect although I wouldn't I can demand half or sell house to recover. But house is for my family here and now when I'm gone they have stability.
Everyone is different and everyone has a different situation I feel....For me I have a Thai home near Korat, its my investment for my future Thai retirement, and for now a sanctuary for 1 or 2 trips a year to get away from all the madness in the UK....
I stay in the UK for one reason only....to save and prepare for that retirement at 55!
I do agree that you need more than a couple of vacations to Thailand to start living the dream, you do need to experience more about the culture and way of life....its not all about living like a King in Pattaya haha.... I guess that life is all about making the mistakes and learning from them....In the early days I thought I could avoid the mistakes by reading forums such as this, but in reality you get sucked into (sorry for the bad choice of phrase lol) the Thai dream and yes you do make those mistakes, whether it was just a bad night with the wrong girl, too many tequilas or buying a bar in Pattaya!
Well just booked my EVA flight for 21st Jan as cannot stomach this grey wet climate and depressive time period in the UK, will try to recharge over the 3 weeks in Thailand and then soon it will be spring-time, so at least the smiles in the UK will start to re-appear!
One last thing, a lot of the members do mention that you need an interest in Thailand as boredom will set in, and this is still an open issue in my head as I get bored in the village just sat by the pool for a week or so and do need to have a western conversation (as my Thai is nid noi) so I think networking with local westerners in a similar situation will be essential and the forum is a great source on contacts so hope I can meet any 'locals' soon for a beer and chat so feel free to PM me if you are close to the Nong Bunmak area and we can catch up ! CHEERS to all of you and hope 2016 is Chok Dee for us all!
Hope you enjoy your vacation. You should try to open a Thai bank account. Maybe 10 banks will say no; but keep trying. It will help you with credit when you do retire in a few years. Credit, I mean transferring money, buying a car etc.

I hate to be a wet blanket ,but i had this problem a few years ago , they just tried to get money out of me ,more than the stuff was worth , in the end i told them to put it where the monkey puts his nuts , never send anything with any of the carriers ,only normal post
Yes, that is correct.
The worst one is DHL.
Never send any goods to Thailand by DHL, Fedex, TNT, UPS, EMS, etc.
USPS priority post is not recommended as the packages are handled by EMS customs in Bangkok.
They like to extort money from foreigners.
Only send by ordinary Air Mail Registered.
I send and receive, letters, documents, Frozen Food with USP, and Fed EX 30 times each year. You can Track online if you have the Tracking number. Easy, but more expensive. But if it is Time Sensitive then money should not matter ! You get what you pay for !!

Ignore it and it will ignore you.
Start playing the hero and you will have trouble.
I always send the wife into the back yard first.

I remember going to MBK with my wife; who needed( wanted) a new handbag. She went shopping at all the small shops, while I went for a coffee.
When she decided which one she wanted and had bargined for the best price, she called me to pay.
After paying and while we were leaving the store owner asked( In Thai Language) her why she had bargined down the price if the Farang was
going to pay. Adding the Thai people need to stand together. The shop owner was really angry !

Buy a drum kit and start practicing from 2 am. I'm not even joking...
Try play some AC/DC or Guns and Roses( I like ) full volume at 7 am when you get up. If that doesn't work; try playing some Italian Opera.
Good Luck.

So absurd but funny this thread
Changing citizenship to get a Thai visa
Seems like US is the easiest with the most useful passport with investment around $500,000 last time I checked couple years ago.
Thats about 17 million Thai baht. Would buy you 34 Thai elite visa for 5 years each (500'000 for 5 years).
170 years of trouble free stay in the land of smiles
Nope- 500,000 x 36 bt/dollar = 18,000,000 bt. Can I keep the extra million ?

Try Syria.
No money needed.
And if you give one Camel and 3 Goats; the government will give you 40 acres of Prime Desert.
Where you can start your own Beach Sand Export company. Suggestion: to remove bullets from
the sand before bagging.
Good Luck.

I cleared an 11 year overstay and paid at the airport. Probably he will be grilled a bit on exiting but so long as has the 20k and ticket out he should not be blacklisted, He should go early to allow sufficient time to deal with the matter. If he is on a new passport it will be important to have the passport that he entered upon with the TM6 (arrival) card as this will make it easier for the immigration officers to locate him on their system. I was able to re-enter 4 days later visa exempt but was taken aside and questioned very intently for a long period by the senior i/o on duty and on reflection it would be advisable, as suggested above, that your friend obtains a visa before trying to reenter. Singapore I think is not the best place to get a tourist visa he might find it better flying to Laos and obtaining the visa there and then perhaps reentering via Nong Khai.
After 9 years of over stay, I doubt he has the TM6 Arrival card. Thai immigration will not let him in, even if he has a visa and even if the Blacklist Law
has not been passed by the Government. I agree it is better for him to go to Laos. AND STAY THERE !
It is these types of people which make problems for people who try to do it the right way in Thailand.

As mentioned before. Any pictures of the two of you together will help a lot. Vacations, Birthdays, Both of you with her Family.
Also make sure, she knows all info. about your Uncle and any other family you plan to visit. I would also suggest that she talk on the phone to your family. It will make her more relaxed and comfortable during the interview. Even places you plan to visit.
As a fellow Canuck from Toronto: I wish you good luck.
P.S go in the summer or she will freeze her butt off
Haha yes... she wanted to see snow, but after the initial excitement, I don't think she'd enjoy a month of Winnipeg winter. We'll be visiting Toronto for a few days too as I have family there. Wonderland, the new Aquarium, maybe Niagra Falls if there's time, can't wait.
My Uncle will be visiting Thailand in January, so I think I'll include his flight itinerary and travel plans along with his financial support documents to show he'll be meeting her.
Well it looks like it may be a crapshoot in any case, hoping we get lucky.
Winnipeg ! ouch ! Great city but too cold for her. Years ago, a friend of mine moved out there. The first morning he went outside to start his truck.
The truck wouldn't start and he thought someone had let the air out of his tires. This was 25 years ago( old tube tire) The air in the tires would freeze and it looked like they were flat.
Really, it's a roll of the dice with any Embassy. The employee's act like they are Gods. Sad really.
Hope she makes it there.
Just remember, the longer she stays there; the more she will become like the Canadian girls. And that is not a good thing.
" Not tonight I have a headache " You don't need that !

For Thailand, it seems there are two groups of people who get holidays.
You have the Bank and Government people who seems to get more then the Private run companies.

As the French Beheaded Queen said a few hundred years ago. " Let them eat cake "

Every country has their favorite comfort food. I guess this is one of them; along without the fried insects !

"V parahaemolyticus is usually found in freshwater fish."
Oh, oh. I was thinking about making river "shrimp" tonight. Not a good idea?
Shrimp is not a Fish ! Eat all you want.
