  1. Very funny, toastwars.

It went really well. Thais wondered what the farang with the bucket was doing standing on the bridge over Klong Toey junction at 8 in the morning on a holiday...

We ended up buying about 35 kg of fish, a lot of them directly from under the knife. I guess not too many monks walk into the killing fields that is KT market - I saw a pile of dead fish leftovers myself, a bit stressful.

All fish we had bought survived and made it into the Chao Praya after the Venerable Cheten Dorji had finished the recitation of mantras and splashing of blessed water. To finish it all off, the merit was dedicated and that was it.

If you do something like this in the fourth month after Tibetan/Chinese New Year each life saved counts for millions I have been told.

  2. Calling all Buddhist practitioners:

A monk from Bhutan (Nyngma lineage, Tib. Buddhism) and I would like to buy suitable animals at the market and release them into environments where they can survive (instead of being chopped into pieces) on February 23rd.

This is not only a very auspicious day (Guru Rinpoche day) but all actions within the first 15 days of Chinese/Tibetan New Year will be multiplied!

One question he had that I couldn't answer: Those small shrimp, are they salt or fresh water animals (my guess is salt water but what do I know)?

Anyone who is interested, please let me know via sending me a pm.

For the best of all beings,

    Guido

  3. Not sure why, I keep coming up with movie ideas lately.

Okay, so Khun Karun all your degrees are being revoked and you got dropped by TRT, no problem.

Here's the rough draft for the movie you are going to make which will turn the gossip and embarassment into cash and belly laughs.

In the movie you are starting all over again in life. There's a scene with you having to make it through kindergarten again ("It's naptime now, boys and girls, you too Karun." And there you are surrounded by toddlers :D ). Then, you have to go through primary school again - lots of potential for funny scenes here.

Suddenly, Thai bureaucracy has determined that you have to redo your birth again, something about your birth certificate being revoked. :D

Unfortunately, it comes to light that your father didn't pass your conception but the gardener did! :o

Now all we need is a real good'n tight script.

  4. I think their fees are 3,000/month or 300/visit.

    Who am I? Hi-so? I was paying 900 a month @ City Fitness.

Also, the work out space at Clark-Hatch Thaniya Plaza is too small for my liking.

Regarding City Fitness' "move". It's been my experience that planning is not something that Thai's are good at since it helps to have mastered Piaget's last stage -> non-abstract thinking: What would happen if... and if that led to... how might this affect... ?

I should get spanked for writing this, shouldn't I?

  5. Thanks for your reply. I once did a five day trial at California. I'm not so into their hyper-mania atmosphere and the locker room is quite small.

Still, they were on my short list until I went and inquired about an off-peak rate. I got the hard sell, the price was repeatedly lowered even though I wasn't even bargaining. I felt I was told a bunch of bs ("nobody has this price, only you") :o . I only asked for one thing 'please give me 24 hours to think it over' and that she could/would not grant because she had to give this rate away that same evening. :D

I hope it won't have to be grandpa's weights in the park...

  6. [There is one thread on this topic if you search back but it doesn't let me add.]

Like several of you I was a member of the City Fitness gym next to the Dusit Thani Hotel. And then it closed and now the equipment just collects dust there.

I went to Empire tower testerday myself since that is where I was told in December at the gym they were moving to. The ladies there were quite in agreement that they don't have a gym there and neither will they have a gym there in the future, not City Fitness nor any other.

Now it's not like I have never received wrong answers in Thailand before... :o but with the evidence of the shut down and unmoved gym, they are right so far.

    1. Does anyone know more in this matter (where & when)?

    2. Does anyone have a recommendation where I could get a membership for two months at a reaonable price in a friendly gym at a location that is not too out of place?

    Any help appreciated.

  7. I used to be a member of City Fitness, which closed down at the end of December and even though they said they were going to move to Empire Tower it really doesn't look like it for now.

Here's what I'm looking for in a gym:

    * Able to sign up for two months (instead of signing a contract for a whole year) at a reasonable rate (I paid 900 p/month)

    * Nicely seized (not like Clark Hatch @ Thanya Plaza)

    * Fairly easy to get to on a bus

    * Friendly atmosphere

Can I find something like this in BKK? I'm dyin' to get back to working out.

    Thanks,

    Guido
