  1. I bought a white Galaxy Note2 at the Mobile Expo at Queen Sirikit Convention center last weekend....

but I cant seem to get the "multi-window" function to work....anyone figured it out? (long press on back button doesnt activate it)

    MODEL NUMBER GT-N7100

    ANDROID VERSION 4.1.1 (Jely Bean?)

    BASEBAND VERSION N7100DXALIA

    BUILD NUMBER JRO03C. N7100XXALIH

You need the updated firmware N7100XXALJ1

LIH is the older firmware that some European units have too.

You can download the UK version of N7100XXALJ1, but you might lose the Thai keyboard input method. (I flashed a UK ROM on my Note 1 and had to download a 3rd party Thai keyboard for the few times I need to use Thai for my Thai dictionary).

If that is important to you, best wait for the OTA update. I know with the Note 1, the Thai updates were usually 2 or 3 weeks behind the European, but maybe this will be quicker since it's launched without an advertised feature (although they didn't include the screen recorder in the latest update either sad.png )

I'm planning on getting the Note 2 this weekend, if it's in Chiang Rai by then.

If there is no OTA update by then I'll manually flash the newer firmware, because I'm really keen to test out this new feature.

Try samsung at central you might have to order.
  2. Google notwithstanding, each have their own ideals. Apple is riding up on laurels and heading for market saturation. The new i5 is not that great, but then Samsung are changing upgrades now only about 9 months since their latest release. I think the tech heads have gone stupid. How fast is enough, why do I need a 64Gig SD chip to plug in? How many tacky games do we need on a phone, why can't we simply have an inexpensive device that makes calls and can SMS. All these devices are doing is bogging us down with time consuming and time wasting 'gadgets'. I for one bought a $30 Nokia at Tesco and it works great. My iPhone 3G and 4S now sit on my desk. My buddy recently had his Samsung Galaxy knocked off and he also figured a $30 cheapie works fine. The other phones make great paper weights albeit expensive ones but who wants to pay $600+ for a device to make phone calls?

You are wrong 64 and soon 128 gig micro sd cards are esential for a smart phone. Stick with your 500 baht phone or get a iphone 5. But you are banned from android.

Tempting, very tempting! My wife was about to upgrade to the S3 but for another 1000baht this is probably a better option. Wonder if we'll get a discount if we buy two? Probably not.

Sent from my GT-I9003 using Thaivisa Connect App

ais promotion gives 26000 in perks such as e books and movie downloads 399 baht a month for 3 gig. download and 100 minutes of calls.

  7. I've known my wife nearly 20 years, married for 9, 2 kids. She's from a poor rural village. We're about the same age and met in a bar.

I was a broke backpacker when I met her and even for the last 8 years we've never been able to save anything - just cover expenses for quite a comfortable lifestyle.

Someone in my family died and now I'm in line for a fairly hefty inheritance. I love my wife and think she loves me. We haven't had a row (ie where shouting ensues) for years.

On a scale of 1 to 10 (halves are allowed), what are the chances of me being violently put down in a mafia-style hit?

    Very high, Be careful.
  8. Sad, but a routine business in that part of the world. I lived not far from Baan Phai from 2001 to 2011. Sorry to say it, but it really is savage up there in parts and I do feel for all the nice normal people (including Thais) stuck in that situation.

To all of you blokes thinking of marrying and moving to Issan, really, just stop and think. Upcountry is not very safe.

My Isaan wife says, "Do they know that sometimes Farang husbands treat their wives very badly? Still going to bars and seeing other ladies. I don't like this Thai Visa, why do they all hate Thailand? There are good and bad people everywhere."

I know a load of people who have lived there for many years, most happy, some not. The odd disaster but hardly routine. Large age gaps (I'm 19 years my wife's senior) and cultural differences mean these relationships can tend to start behind the 8 ball as expectations are so different. Some blokes come here and expect their much younger Thai wife to behave exactly the same as the spouse they bailed out on in the west, except be much prettier of course.

And before anyones asks, only married 3 years, so I supposedly still have the rose coloured glasses on. But I've lived in a 3rd world country for 20 years (PNG) and have seen many, many large age gap, cross cultural relationships. They aren't all bad and the overwhelming majority of blokes married to Thais are in good, mutually loving relationships.

I'm not for one second condoning or making excuses for the alleged murder in the OP, just going against the trend of this thread in that it is the rare exception, hardly the rule.

Casting general aspersions on Isaan people or Thais in general (though popular on TV) just isn't fair.

Keep living the dream my friend, but be very careful you could be next. Does your young wife have a brother living at your house?
  9. sfbandung says "The odd disaster but hardly routine" Ummm.............

you can see these guys at the airport arriving, Victims, Naive guys who dont understand the Thai Smile . It looks so honest and happy, and often the "smile of an assasin"

There are thousands who are not murdered but certainly robbed, Some of these females play the"long game", maybe "in love with a falang guy" for a year or two , and then "down to business"

A Thai smile while a knife stabs you in your back at every turn.
  10. I hope the bitch gets whats coming her way. The poor guy RIP so sad!!

Money rules everyone in Thailand and, from the rich to the poor. This a warning for all expats to be extra careful and always protect yourself first

This is the culture shock many people still don't understand. (I like to secretly deny it in my head too) The reality of Thai culture is that people do kill other people, injure others with cars, beat up each other etc. When all is said and done, the person who was more wrong (police usually being judge and jury) usually ends up paying.

My friends brother (Thais) got into a fight at a bar. Nothing came about it until the next night when her brother snuck into her the other mans home and stabbed him to death. It happened three years earlier and he wasn't in jail. I said. Why isn't he in jail? She said. Mom had to pay a lot of money. 300,000 baht. He may have spent a few weeks in jail while mom was getting the funds together for the other family. But that was that. It's their culture here. We can not change it. I know many expats who have been here longer than me and still deny this is reality.

That was bail that was paid and the case is probably on appeal, you can not kill some person in thailand and pay a fine, you have to go to court first.
  11. Impetuous teens are often at odds with a parent.

    .

At the risk of picking a fight Buchholz..............you and many others expected TS to be back by now. You didn't expect a new generation of politicians to start roosting in the nest of power.

The longer TS is out of the country the more irrelevant he and his acolytes will become.......and the more power and confidence will flow to his sister.

It's happening below your nose and you can't see it. coffee1.gif

I seriously hope you are right.

    Me too. biggrin.png

I would like to see a poll of how many people here have called it completely wrong for the past year.................day in and day out they have railed about the same subject............the impending return of TS.

To me he is further away than ever........and Yingluck's people are starting to empire build. People don't give up the levers of power easily once they get their hands on them. This has been true throughout history and it will become true in this case too.

    You are dreaming.
