  1. It's not only that, even when parking a car your spare wheel is not safe.

They will park next to you, and have your spare wheel from under your car and put in the receptacle on their car.

All done from that 1 meter gap between parked cars with someone acting as a look-out

You seem to be well informed. biggrin.png
  2. Maybe if the likes of Microsoft charged reasonable prices and genuine Movie DVD producers and software companies did the same all this Pirating would stop. Who wants to pay 500baht to watch a film once, when it’s only 70 baht at the cinema. I like to try software before buying some products, that’s the great thing about these sites. I think maybe you could buy copies of almost anything in Cambodia same as Thailand. Very hypocritical world we live in.

Having worked for many software companies in the past, you'd be amazed at how expensive it is to produce, document, distribute, update and support software. Can't argue with these companies wanting to make a profit for their efforts. And to pay people like me who worked for them a fair salary. And no, it wasn't an exorbitant salary. Unfortunately.

Of course your salary wasn't exhorbitant .... how else would Bill Gates be one of the richest men in the world...whistling.gif

Not only that, but the market is just really unfair. Most of the big US software packages are dirt cheap when bought in US, bust cost many times more in a poor country like Thailand. At one point I was involved in a software company in Thailand where we wanted to buy some Adobe software. The US price was something like $200 for a license, but in Thailand that very same license was $1,200. Of course people pirate the software here. If these people had any sense they'd price their software following the Big Mac index or something like that, in that case it would have been $100 for that license in Thailand, and I'm sure companies would queue up to be legal.

I don't want to dispute your post but can you explain why Adobe would ask 6 fold for a license when used in Thailand compared to somewhere else.I read that companies like Microsoft lower their prices for countries like Thailand.

Also I think the biggest part of the software licenses is purchased online through companies like Digital River and alike, so how they know you gonna use it in Thailand or elsewhere.

  3. @Arguseye, you're right, Chinese tourism seems to function quite well without lots of westerners, which can be either a good or bad thing, depending on how you look at it. The good part is that there are fewer scams directed specifically towards foreigners or westerners in general compared to SE Asian countries like Thailand. This is probably because 1) with fewer foreign tourists there are fewer potential targets 2) there's always the language barrier since relatively few Chinese can speak English and 3) the government in China wants tourists to receive a good impression of their country. The bad part if you will, if that in some parts of China, particularly less travelled rural areas or less well known cities, foreigners can expect to receive a fair bit of attention with cries of "helloo!!" particularly by small children being quite vocal and having their pictures taken etc.

With regards to the language barrier 2.): There are few foreigners who speak Chinese. I think this will change soon. Very much like English is the lengua franca in many Western countries now, and Spanish is in Latin America, Chinese (Mandarin) will become the most important international language in Asia. It is quite possible that Westerners will lose out if they don't attempt to learn it.

There is more interchange within Asia than between Asians and Westerners. Who cares about English?

They are saying that already for the past 20 years, even bigger optimists have been predicting that it would overtake English in the number 1 world language, still nothing has changed since.

Anyway, isn't Thai, with all their hubs, gonne be the premium Asian language whistling.gif

  4. "Seems like things are really screwed up with the procedure. You don't build something, then wait for an "inspector" to ok it after it is built.

    :- OBVIOUSLY SOME PEOPLE DO!

How would an inspector give it the OK before it's built?

    TIT

Uhmm, ever heard about a building permit?
  5. I just happened to read that closed thread, where the OP was cheated out of 40 Bht.

Of course 40 Bht is not a big deal, but I agree with the OP that it should not happen and people should made aware of it.

Anyone who calls the OP a cheap charlie, feel free to post 40 Bht to my account.

  6. Afraid it happens a lot especially with nice shiny new helmets. Happens a lot less if you use a dirty old one.

yes, my stolen one was quite new and shiny and nice.. Ok, I will buy a garbage one tomorrow smile.png))

You will not be able to purchase a dirty old helmet at any shop, however I have one.

So if you buy a new shiny one tomorrow I will swap it with you for my old dirty one. For a small fee of course.smile.png

  7. 5 AM in morning, might be drunk...

    More pictures here :

I assume it is the young man in the blue shirt who is being arrested and it is obvious that he shows no contrition whatsoever for what has happened.

I think if I were a common Thai that I would urge everyone that I knew to boycott purchasing Red Bull until justice has been done; and the expatriate members of TV who are aware and consume the product should do so also.

    OK, I will start.

I don't drink Redbull untill justice has prevailed.Any more followers?

  8. Aha......a common misconception.

Remember the like system only started in January so members such as Transam have a huge volume of posts that were in place before the like system was introduced....which leads me to me favourite saying.....

" There are three kinds of lies, lies, damned lies and statistics".

So as you were saying about likes???? coffee1.gif

and the "likes" or greens or whatever they were called from the previous system were carried over.

otherwise how would you explain that TA is carrying over likes from 2010?

    http://www.thaivisa....ost__p__3733167

Yes I'm aware of that, just as you are aware of the controversy surrounding the green system, I have no doubt you vented your opinion on the matter under one of your previous incarnations on Thaivisa.

Anyway, do you intend to ever add positive content to the forum or are you content to miserably snipe from the sidelines? smile.png

But then, how are you aware of that controversy of the previous rating system and the incarnations of other members, since it was also looong before you signed up ? ( under your current username that is)

  9. Don't worry you don't need to do anything for me since I can take care of myself well.I only wanted to point out that all multinationals make rip off profits on their products.

By the way I also hear nobody, other than a few in this thread, complain about being ripped off by Gillette.

And what you are talking about Gillette's defacto monopoly.I know many other brands selling a similar product in the super markets.Shick,Wilkinson sword,Bic just to name a few and then were not talking yet about American safety razor company which in numbers is the biggest in the world, much bigger than Gillette. They produce for thousands of house brands, like Big C and Tesco for example.

And at the end Gillette also produces DE razor blades, and probably a lot every day, so they must sell them somewhere. Not?

Me myself I prefer safety razors and particullary Gillette Mach 3 , Haven't tried Fusion yet, because I don't like the cuts that can happen more easy with a DE blade.

I'm a bit confused by your comments. First off, a safety razor is a DE razor. Nearly every company that makes those over prices plastic cartridge blades also make DE blades. Not sure how that effects the marketing that is pushing us to plastic carts vs the cheaper DE alternatives. And of course if they make them they must be selling them but I can tell you they are hard to find as they have little profit margin and are not pushed onto the retail market.

Also, lets be clear here.. have you even tried a DE blade for shaving? When you speak of cuts happening more easy with one vs the other are you speaking from personal experience or from the way you think it is? Not trying to be condescending but until I tried a DE blade I "thought" that they would be harder to use and more prone to cuts but that just isn't true.

That was an error from my side.I understand that the razors with disposable cartridge are safety razors as in my opinion it's almost impossible to cut yourself with them, however I still manage to have a small cut on spots or alike from time to time.

And of course I have used DE razors, and experienced big cuts, because when I started shaving myself the disposable razors still needed to be invented.

And by the way, I agree that the prices for the Fusion are rising out of the pan, but just bought a pack of 4 x Mach 3 cartridges for 268 Baht, which I think is an affordable price for the time they last and the shave quality I get from them.

  10. Men are paying over the odds for a clean shave because of a huge mark-up on razor heads.

The products sold by Gillette and other companies cost as little as 5p to make, industry insiders have revealed.

But consumers are charged up to £2.43 a piece - a mark-up of more than 4,750 per cent.

Maybe you could do some research on the profits of Nike, Adidas, Coca Cola , Pepsi and a few hundred other multi nationals and come to the constatation that they all have a similar business model.

Maybe you could. I got to do everything for you?

I don't hear anybody complaining he's been ripped off by the price of a Coke.

The difference is that these other companies have fierce competition whereas Gillette has a defacto monopoly. Their profits can't possibly approach 4,750 percent on any of their products.

Retailers put this plastic on their shelves exclusively because the markup is so huge. Consumers can't even see, let alone buy, a traditional DE razor or blades because retailer's profit will be so small. If they think they have no access to anything else, then they've got to buy Fusions etc.

  11. Just checked the price at a Honda dealer near my Mom's home in Las Vegas. For what I had done, the price is between $250 and $350. And it's a mandatory all day job, with no loaner. I'm happy here!

And do they also earn 10$ a day near your mom's home in Vegas?

  13. Wow that all sounds like a war zone. Real scary, and real brazen of those guys to do it even with people around. I have never had anything like that happen to me. Then again I don't live in Pattaya and it seems it can be dangerous there.

Just visited it yesterday to meet some friends and do shopping. Did not feel much danger there but maybe more in the backroads.

    Good to hear your safe.

This has nothing to do with Pattaya. It's a problem all over the country. Even in my wife's very small village, her brother's scooter was stolen while parked right in front of their house, with G'ma sleeping a few meters away. Crime occurs everywhere.

I ride my scooter around that area all the time. There's not much out there, and quite a ways away from Pattaya. Huay Yai is even further and is very rural.

    No No,you're completely wrong.

Life is so wonderfull in Thailand. They are not affected by the worldwide economical crisis, their economy is growing to never seen heights, the salaries are ever rising and their is no unemployment in this rose garden.Criminality is almost not existing in this country.

I know this because I read it every day in the news section.

  14. If i could also add that multi-blade razors clog easily, then you can't shave with them.

Double-edge razors can't clog, and therefore the blades last a lot longer.

    YES YES!!

That is a very good point indeed. I use "shave secret", a shaving oil, as a pre shave. The oil works great to protect your skin and keep moisture while shaving. the biggest drawback is that it causes your multi blade razors to clog something fierce. I have to keep an old toothbrush around to repeatedly clean the multi razor carts during each and every use. After just one swipe across my face the multi blade carts are clogged. That problem will never exist with a DE blade and I love it.

The easiest remedie for that is using shaving foam.I use Mach 3 and previously used shaving oil, which would give me this issue, after changing to foam I never noticed clogging again.

Another solution is using the high pressure bum spray to clean your razor whistling.gif

  15. I can see clearly the side visors. I drove at night in the mountain without any road lights. I had no problems and i could see properly on my side visors.

20h00 was the time i took the pictures approx.

Also keep in mind that cameras don't like low light, i can see two times better than in the picture. I drove my car at 100km/h and i had no problems with vision at all.

Allright, now tell us you even wear those sunglasses from your avatar while you're driving the car at night. biggrin.png
