  1. The event was staged by the Thai government in an effort to lure foreigners to a country whose tourist-friendly image has been tested in recent years by deadly floods, political violence and concerns about crime and safety.

Future world record attempts include :

Simultanious stabbing of tourists in broad daylight.

    Simultanious scamming of jetski renters.

I'm confident there will be no competition in these subjects, and they will not be short of participants as well this time.

  2. If you have the time and effort to work at it, then houses for the holiday rental market is a good earning opportunity. I know quite a few people who are returning between 5000 and 8000 baht per night for 3 and 4 bedroom houses doing short time holiday rentals.

This would only really suit people who are here full time and can manage/look after their properties. The bookings and upfront credit card payments are handled online, quite simple once the initial data is uploaded, but you need to be here to look after Cleaning, Laundry, Pool Maint etc. Definitely not for everybody.!

5000 and 8000 Baht a night, every night?
  3. The wife and I have eaten there many times and the food has always been good. The decor is very New York steakhouse and they are now using iPads for menus. Bring your wallet. I have spent upwards of THB 15000 for dinner and wine for 2 people.

Does a steak taste better or is it better value when the menu is presented on an Ipad?

Do they fly over the steak by private plane from New York, which would be the only reason I can think of that would justify the price?

  4. "Thailand is ready to support the European economy."

Is europe lacking cheap hookers, graft money and poorly made products? Don't think so. That's what Eastern Europe is for. I wonder if everyone who was not checking her out started to snicker when she said this?

I think she means Thailand will give money and free rice to help the many poor in Europe Maybe see will send medicines for the sick. I think Thailand is wonderful.

Sure Thailand is generous, they always help whenever they can.

I remember for the Japanese tsunami they waved the visa fees for Japanese tourists, expect some similar help to the European union.

  5. Strange enough this afternoon my AIS smartphone has been losing connection with the network and switching to DTAC,with the result of course that noone could call me and I couldn't make outcalls. This happened continiously between 2pm and 5pm in the south pattaya area.If I rebooted my phone it would connect to AIS to change tp DTAC a few minutes later. In the end I had to switch off the automatic network detection to prevent this from happening.

    Anyone else experienced something similar?

  6. ***BREAKING NEWS****

The ladyboy sale rep from Cali Wow now works at Central at The Skin Doctors on the 3rd floor. I had signed up just before the closure and she went to the ATM and refunded me 15000THB in cash! I didn't come right out and say it but he apologized for pocketing the money knowing long before that they gym would be closing and the refund was prompt. I suggest anyone else who has fallen victim to this same scam to go see the ladyboy there.

How did you find out that he pocketed the money? I'm sure he didn't offer this himself.
  7. While travelling from BK to Phuket by car today I had serious problems with DTAC reception between 10 and 12 am in Chumphon and Surat Thani areas. between 11 and 12 AIS didnot work either in that region.

About time that the NBCT takes action as DTAC's network coverage throughout Thailand is a lot worse the last 2 years than it used to be.....

    Glad I have a duo-sim phone tho....

So we have now reports that AIS also had an outage around the same time.Another poster reported that True had similar outage today.

Why is there no report that they are also summoned to explain and threatened with a huge fine.

Ooops,.........I forgot they are Thai and Dtac are Aliens.

you don't agree because you don't know where these beaches are. and those who know (like me) won't tell.

Are there secret beaches in Pattaya w00t.gif just like the CIA had secret prisons.

  9. Smells somehow..

IF the bikes were legally bought from a finance company (more likely an auction), they should have the books and many additional documents, like bills, passport copies, documents for the transfer, etc. pp.

When I have bought bikes from an auction, I received a bill from the auction company, the same day.

Green book and all paper were provided ~2 weeks later.

    Fazit: No book, no deal.

But it's not only the book, a lot of documents have to be provided by the seller, to transfer the bike into your name!

So my Thai friend rang. All is fine, and they have the green book.

Thought i'd stop by and see it with my own eyes and it seems they don't actually have it, but i have to wait 2/3 weeks for it to be put into my name. You did say "Green book and all paper were provided ~2 weeks later" in your above post, so perhaps this is what you were referring to?

    Slightly confused now.

And that is if you're lucky.

I also bought a bike this way, dealer who bought it at an finance auction, and waited almost 2 months for the book to arrive.

Basically there is nothing to worry about, but the dealer you buy from is depending for the book on the company who organizes the auctions nationwide for the finance companies, and they can't be bothered much to speed up things as they got their money already.
