I was on Sukhumvit early that morning on my way to Ekkamai bus station, and I saw that accident scene. I’ve been waiting for eight years to see what would happen with this. I still can picture that officers body laying there with his head it in a growing pool of blood.

Thanks for your informative post

Prefer inexpensive instead of cheap. Slightly different, and sounds better.

i do not want to sound harsh....and no unearned disrespect intended.... but huh , why cant you do this yourself ? just take this post to home pro ,they will sell you all you need . and money is not a issue with you so much as you slacker way of life is . YOU must research this , i do not understand why you want other people to do personal taste things for you .hmmmm.... maybe you are looking for a back door outta this re-hab ? high cost to justify a no go ? and it would not be you that said no . the money did .
Eeeasy. This is part of the research. When you go in someplace for services asking questions, the more answers you already have, the better..

All this guy was saying was "Do your best, scan it all, back it up ... it is a lot better than nothing."
Finally, thanks, that looks pretty clear

ah one more thing I forgot to mention. If the age difference is big (i.e. 25, 30 yrs +) than it is obvious that one of the key motives will be money/financial status.
Some would say they just want what all women want- security, especially, for when they get old..

1. In English it should no be a problem.
2. There is no requirement to change it to misses and/or adopt your husbands name.
3. yes, you choose between one of the two.
4. It is possible to get a 60 day extension based on the marriage certificate if both of you attend immigration with passport, marriage certificate, your household registration book and ID-card. If you do not live where you are registered, take proof of actual residency with you (rental contract, utility bill).
5. You are already married. But to get the 1 year extension based on marriage you will need to notify the Thai government of the marriage abroad:
(1) Go to the British embassy to have the marriage certificate certified (Look at embassy website for details)
(2) Have it translated into Thai
(3) Have it certified by the Thai foreign Ministry, consular department at Chaeng Wattana Road
(4) Make copies/scans of all documents for future use
(5) go to any amphur and have the marriage registered in Thailand as well.
Of the registration you will get a khor rhor 22 certificate, which immigration wants to see for a 1 year extension of stay.
Easy to do all this before the end of June. if you can proof the income it would be better to go for the 1 year extension right away. (The 60 day extension is only given once per entry into Thailand, so you would lose it as something you can use in an emergency).
Ok, I'll be losing my retirement visa (I know, a misnomer) while we wait for wife's green card in the US. So I'll be trying to get a 1 yr marriage visa at the Thai embassy here in LA when we do go back to Thailand. I'm not sure if I'll still have to go to the MFA and an Amphur once in Thailand, or if it can all be registered at the Thai Embassy here.

I am 70 and I got AIA last year. Health insurance together with life insurance with cash value. Cost according with the plan and age, starting 32000/year (2680/month) for my age.. No health exam and no problem with pre existing conditions. I used a few times without problems, but is good to have a good agent to help to deal with hospital quotes, coverage, etc, etc. It is good to get an extra accident coverage with it., for 2000/year.
Policy is only in Thai.
Sounds like an exceptional deal.
Very surprising that no medical was required at age 70 or pre-existing conditions declared......in fact very unusual.
I have the same basic policy, with minimum coverage, and I was surprised too when I got it. I used recently in a expensive private hospital, and I was also surprised that covered for most expenses, even if the Hospital overcharged in everything its can. Good service too. I recommend it, but like the OP said, the policy is in Thai and better to take somebody to help in every case, and look in every details before getting into hospital or treatment.
I bought it in Chiang Rai and I used also in Phayao and Lampang hospitals without any problems. If hospitals are affiliated with the policy, AIA pays directly, if not, returning the money in about 2 weeks. Getting the policy before 70 years old is valid until 80 years old, and with cash value.
Send me a message if you need more details.
I'll try to find this through AIS myself first. Thanks to both for lead.

I've briefly looked into it. I believe once your wife has her "green card" and is a legal resident she can apply for her child to come. I think it's called a K2 visa.

it's been about 5 yrs ago I was in Ventienne for 3-4 days with GF. She spoke Lao. Nice town to see for a few days, has a French feel, not that big considering it's a capitol. Embassy not that fun, it's a 2 day deal. Stayed at the Hotel Khamvongsa, pretty, good location near river, in the $40 US range I think ( hotelkhamvongsa.com , phone #'s under directions tab). Two others I remember are the Lao Orchid and the Inter Hotel. You can check trip advisor. Enjoy your trip.

I live in Thailand and invest in US REIT's (Real Estate Investment Trusts) - they must pay a certain percentage dividend. I get a check every 3 months. Last 5 yeas around 8% to 11%. My favorites are NRZ and NCT.
See http://bigcharts.marketwatch.com/quickchart/quickchart.asp?symb=NRZ&insttype=Stock
Terrible recommendation for the OP. Will be subject to US withholding tax (typically 15-30% depending upon the type of holding account), and subject to foreign exchange risk.True. Ah, the uncertainty of the markets, and the certainty of US taxes.

I'd love to get a box that provides English language programming and movies, but all this is Greek to me...

Wow. Thanks. Extensions - user agents is pretty cool. I tried it, but not for a 90 day report, I don't have to do one yet. Has anyone else tried it yet? did it work?

I heard from someone they no longer have the free red shuttle buses that run from the front of the immigration complex at Soi 7? (corner by CAT) to the rear building where the immigration is, and back. Is that true?

Yes....Thai ladies have all the leverage here...as they own it (and will pawn or 2nd mortgage everything before you know it). Even if you subleased...she could make you so miserable (or worse) that you would walk away, eventually. I would keep her on the good side, if possible. Perhaps she will divide up what you bought..but not likely. Making enemies will not help...
I learned this the hard way. I walked away from 80,000 usd, and all the furnishings...just to be free. My marriage was not bad, it was just that my wife lied about her child, and could not conceive for me. Damage done, after 13 years, I still gave her money to buy the house and lot. I made my children with another girl, and now all are grown, except the youngest (16). The children all all happy, and doing fine. The Philippines is similar to Thailand, as the property is usually in the wife's name. (Prior planning allows for some exceptions...for example, Corporation title or large investment.). Thailand has "ways" but none seem to work well either...except condo ownership.
Only smart thing I did was retain full retirement and social security. That was worth a lot more than a house and car with payments, second mortgages, etc (which you cannot control, as she own everything). I hired a paralegal (we were married in the USA) and filed for a non contested divorce (100 usd filing fee in court)..giving her everything (but no child so no child support...and I was not retired yet, so no access to that).
All those things have been replaced...and then some. I helped my wife's hidden daughter get to the USA (Filipina) and she is a Manager for a famous Casino. They will help each other out....and I have my kids. It was a long haul....but what saved me was my latch on my Retirement, and the fact that she had no children with me. Very happy with the Uncontested Divorce. I have not remarried, as I have learned my lesson. I do have a live-in...who benefits greatly. I now rent., and keep assets..such as cars, in non negotiable credit. (minimum down payments, making it non profitable for anybody to sell). Credit is in her name...not mine.
You raise a question for me when you mention retaining pension and soc. sec. I'm already getting a pension with no survivor/wife because I wasn't married when I started it. I'm turning 62 in a few months and planning on taking early so. sec. and I was going to add my fiancé/wife when she gets here to the states before that so she can get so. sec. spouse/survivor benefits after I die. I thought that would be an important benefit for her later in life. But I hadn't thought about the divorce angle. I plan on a pre-nup before marriage. Aren't these issues that can be addressed then??

I actually have it on our list that she should bring her bank book or at least a copy so she can make WIRE transfers back to Thailand to dole out money to anyone in her family that may need it. We have a house over here to maintain.
I will also not have her take my name when we marry to make it easier for her to keep her passport and ID up-to-date at the closest embassy or consulate near her. Changing her name in the US will cause all kinds of issues when and if she needs to renew her Passport and/or ID.
And copies or originals of any important papers she has or may need in the US or when traveling back to Thailand. Otherwise, I'd put them in a safety deposit box in her bank in Thailand if she chooses to keep a bank account open.
I just mailed our I-129F in from Thailand to the Dallas office on 3/16/2015 and still no word they have received it and I included that form to be notified by email when they did receive it. I'm starting to prepare another package. So much fun!
The email will come. It takes a few weeks. If I remember in took about 2 months for the application to be accepted and forwarded to the US embassy in BKK. Then more docs to be filed with embassy- Packet 3, before the interview can be scheduled; and packet 4 to be taken to the interview. It's on the embassy website. One thing I wished I had done before I left Thailand was to have a pre-nup done there. Cheaper, including the translations and a Thai speaking lawyer for her. I'm told by friends it's legal in US, but I haven't checked that with my attorney here. Like I said I ran out of time and had to return.

I have AIA health insurance, they payed.
I've heard that about them, and KhrungThai Extra.
-
Yes. My gf, and her family also do not understand insurance. For that matter I don't either. Pay someone many dollars over the years, so maybe one day you might need it. But if you never need it you don't get the money back. If you do file a claim they can cancel your insurance. Biggest scam ever invented. Except for, maybe religion.
++. Nice analogy to the insurance for the soul scheme.

"The foreign criminals come in many forms, and the target for us tonight is colored people"
Wow! Back home the good colonel's career would have been over in less time than it took him to utter that sentence. Just saying...
Toto, I don't think we're in Kansas anymore..

Forget about the skin thing.
These guys have crossed the line and just don't know when to back off.
They are getting too cocky and now the locals have to go in and clean them out.
I've always said that Thais work better with a shovel than a spade.
No Puns intended ?

It is an informative OP. Perhaps could it be pinned? Perhaps after a few more constructive additions?
Already there:http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/topic/109057-thai-government-web-sites/
If anyone has any other "Government" only departments to add, please PM them to me.
Thanks to you, and OP.
