I think the point of the story is about the danger and inconvenience caused by the firm dismantling the building, not warning of investing in the country.

And do you not think that a regulated and uncorrupted industry would be required to dismantle the building in a controlled and safe manner ? or do you think that it is irrelevant and uncontrolled and corrupted companies will put HSQE first ?

So therefore only invest if you condone the behaviour that currently exists and /or you can afford to lose the money. That is the connection.

This is such a whitewash .

His record is squeaky clean. They have found nothing bad or corrupt about him. And yet he is passed over for the flimsy excuse he wasn't performing well enough.

What does that even mean? ?

For such an important pass over, that reason is pathetic.

    Good luck judge.

Maybe that was the reason exactly,  he was not corrupt.  This Junta will not entertain anyone who uses moral or ethical judgment to reach a verdict.

How many coups since 1932?  At least 13, it's difficult to keep count.  To my knowledge none of the coup leaders were held to account, even those responsible for atrocities.  Yet "an amnesty for a coup I can understand".  That says a lot about you.

You may have cautiously criticized some of the junta's actions, but your support for the junta is clear.  And the PTP didn't win the 2011 election with "popular policies off book", they weren't in power, the military puppet Abhisit was.  There pefrormance after a few years in power should have been judged by the voters in a new election, and indications were the voters would have judged them harshly in 2014.  However the military didn't want an election.

Once again, given a choice between a democracy that was a work in progress or unrestricted military rule, you choose the greater of the two evils.

If the first coup leader was given the same final farewell as Mussolini , that would have put an end to the Thai Generals hobby of taking over behind the barrel of a gun. But no,  the feudal system still remains and the crackpot Generals still get away with murder, literally.  But there again isn't that part of the modern Thai system anyway ?

The Shinawatra Machine will never be broken. Give the Evil One his due, he knew what it would take to sway the poor, unwashed, the under educated, the backward masses to forever remain faithful to him, his family and his minions. Give them small incremental increases to improve their lives or so they believed. Know you have the numbers in voting, you have the money to buy the necessary votes and your power and influence will never be broken. As long as Thaksin is alive and still capable of pulling all the strings for the Reds the goal is to regain power. That cannot be allowed to happen so no elections as the outcome is a foregone conclusion. Prayut is not a dummy, he knows that and he will not step aside and hold elections unless he can be assured that Thaksin and the Red shirts will not take over again.

Luckily it's not my job to try getting that message across  ...  I agree that the military have failed to do that convincingly  ...  we all love to believe in a benevolent power which will make all our problems disappear !

I rather suspect that many of the farmers learned not to trust any government so much, expecially the families of the people who borrowed short-term from the local-mafia to keep their finances going, and the families of the subsequent suicides ?

But yes, there are clearly many people who still support the Shinawatra-Family-Party, which shows that they're clever politicians  ...  pity there's no populist-party able to step-in and represent the poor, in it's place as yet.

Your final para is what is really needed to move the country forward and exploit it's true potential IMHO

  6. There may be a death duty tax payable to the UK but the amounts mentions indicate that this is below the threshold.  If you want to ensure no tax is paid then can I suggest you email the Junta PM for advice as to setting up a BVI account as he did a few days prior to the coup to ensure no tax was paid on his land purchase from his Father.  That should sort it nicely.

Best you ask this question outside of Thailand due to the proliferation of "disappearances" lately.

Have nice day and good luck.
