Funny, I do the opposite, stock up in Thailand. Have you tried the budget-priced briefs from Tesco Lotus? I got a bunch in March and they show no signs of "falling apart in the washing machine," and they're comfortable and cheap.

There are 2 left luggage counters at the Suvarnabhumi Airport
Level 2 - Arrivals
The Left Luggage Counter is located on the Level 2 (Arrivals) - near the escalator - behind EXIT 4 area.
Level 4 - Departures
The Left Luggage Counter is located on the Level 4 (Departures) - near the entrance of Entrance 4.
100 baht per piece per day.
Bangkok Self Storage 100 baht pder piece per week.

That's why God invented cell phones and 008/009 prefixes!

Bus # 555 stops right outside the terminal, expressway all the way to DM. It runs 24/7 but it might be infrequent late at night. There may be natural gas-powered vans from the airport bus terminal. Go to the far end and see what's running.

In March we stayed at the 5-star Regent (now re-christened the Millennium) right on Bukit Bintang for the grand price of 60 euros (booked via Asiatravel.com), and got UPGRADED to one of the most beautiful suites I've ever seen, let alone stayed in. Everything about the hotel was elegant and the service was really 1st class.
The hotel was supposedly undergoing refurbishment although there was no sign of that other than a faint paint smell near the front desk and some workers re-doing the mural near the pool. It was a great deal, and I imagine those prices are going through the roof in the next high season.
That price included a very fine buffet breakfast, by the way, which itself would have cost almost 60 euros for 2 people at many top hotels in the west.
I know 60 euros, 2500 baht is apparently no big deal for KL, but this was an extraordinary hotel for that price all the same, compared to other hotels of this caliber in that district.

Wanted to edit the above posting for the record (what are the parameters under which we can edit our own posts, anyway?). Since I corrected the glitch, TV Forum pages are displaying only about 3 errors in Firebug, which is more-or-less standard. So I guess whatever happened was blocking part of Javascript on this forum for me only.
-
OK, I found the problem.
Since this was the only website it was happening with - including other sites which rely heavily on Javascript - and it was happening on 2 separate browsers, I couldn't imagine it was a Firefox or a Mac issue.
The other day, after reading about the poster who was seeing a non-standard tree view, I went on "Options" and reset my view as "Standard." It WAS standard already and had never been changed, but, anyway, after the reset I tried the toolbar and - lo and behold - everything works again! That includes My Assistant and Emoticons
I must have hit some sort of glitch in the scripting which gives us these various views. (I'm not surprised because I still have Firebug on, and it has been reporting the most errors per page of any website I regularly visit.)
Anyway, in case anyone else has this problem, that's the solution

I'd take them island-hopping in the Trang islands: Koh Kradan, Koh Ngai, Koh Mook, then onto Koh Lanta, Koh Jum and Krabi. Fly down to Trang and spend a day or 2, then off to the islands by long-tail. Stay in simple beach bungalows. Then to Koh Lanta for a bit of "civilization" and the ferry to Koh Jum, finally to Krabi and fly back to Bangkok.

Taxi from Silom to Suvarnabhumi should not be more than about 300-350 baht ($10-12 US) including tolls and airport surcharge. Approximately the same to Don Muang. If you paid $20 you got ripped off.

Bangkok Self Storage has backpacker storage which costs 100 baht per bag per week. So, depending on how much you're storing it could cost as little as 400 baht for a month. And they're very secure, clean and professional. I've personally used them and recommend them. 2000 baht ($66) doesn't sound like a lot for short-term storage if you've got the whole contents of an apartment in there, but each to his own!
I heard about another one: Big Move Thailand http://www.bigmovethai.com/eng/storage.asp which charges per cubic metre. I guess you could get a lot into a cubic metre. I have no personal experience with them, but someone on here recommended them once.

Merck's ZoCOR (aka simvastatin) - not ZoLOFT - is the anti-cholesterol drug which has gone off-patent. (The patent on Pfizer's anti-depressant Zoloft also expired in 2006, though.) As I said earlier in this thread, Zocor/simvasatin is one of the 2nd generation statins, which are good and tried and true, but not as effective as the 3rd generation, the most successful of which is Pfizer's Lipitor. It's true that Pfizer will need another blockbuster to replace Lipitor when its patent expires in 2010. But they have quite a few things in their pipeline, including a drug to combat obesity. If that works it would be a huge money-maker. I hardly think they'll need to sell toaster ovens in any case.

Do NOT go on buses arranged for backpackers on Khao San Road. It is NOT "the easiest option." There have been numerous reports of thefts from luggage, jam-packed, unsafe buses, scams and suicidal drivers. The public government licensed buses from Southern Bus Terminal are comfortable, cheap and relatively safe and secure.
There's one private service, though, that you should know about, which has a very good reputation: Lomprayah operates high-speed catamaran ferries and the bus transfers from Bangkok in 50-passenger A/C buses. They charge 850 baht from Bangkok to Koh Phangan, connecting via Chumpon and Koh Tao. They leave at 9 PM and arrive the next morning at 10:45, or 6AM and arrive at 4:10 PM (16:10). See http://www.lomprayah.com/

According to my research, bestatin is not simvastatin at all, but an aminopeptidase inhibitor - nothing to do with cholesterol. Or is it a British or Australian trade name for generic simvastatin (aka Zocor)?
In any case, if the generic works for you... but as I tried to point out in my earlier post, the patents on zocor/simvastatin have now run out, so that's why these generics are now available at a lower cost. And you have the benefit of a drug that's tried and true over many years. However, Lipitor (aka Sortis, aka atorvastatin, aka Torvast) is one of the 3rd generation drugs which offers increased protection in lowering LDL and bolstering the ratio of HDL, among other things. It's newer, more effective and that's why it's more expensive. It costs the drug companies billions to develop and test these drugs.
ProThaiExpat, I'm no doctor, but personally I don't like the sound of this "self-medicating." Are you a physician or a pharmacist? Of course you're aware that while you're taking these powerful drugs, your liver and kidney values have to be closely monitored. An annual cholesterol test is not sufficient.

QUOTE: "The driver immediately turned on the meter and apologized, telling me taxi stand staff extort 20 baht from the drivers who participate in this scam."
So that explains it.

#32 That's normal for destinations outside Bangkok. I've photographed the cards for those rates and often quote them if anyone asks what they should be paying for a trip outside town. (Taxi fare to Yala is 9000 baht - danger pay.)

Om Yim: http://www.omyimgroup.com/omyimhome.html
Directly beside Chong Nonsi BTS station, 750-900 baht. New, very nice. Free WiFi.

Villa, Carrefour for sure. Tesco most probably.
Carrefour Super Store on Rama IV has a big selection.

For all those doubting the thing about the dispatchers pushing a flat rate, there have been numerous reports of this, here and in other forums. I started a thread on it here about a month ago: http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=125758

Well, it's sure got me flummoxed. There must surely be a broken Java part somewhere. I've got Firebug on now and just reloading this page has generated 15 Javascript errors.

I reinstalled Java 5.0 fresh from Apple. Did a deep cleaning of all caches with Tiger Cache Cleaner. Rebooted. Problem still persists.
-
OK, I have:
(1) found some Java prefs in the /library/preferences folder and deleted them;
(2) opened Java 1.3.1 and 1.4.2 Plugin Settings apps and reset them;
(3) opened Java Preferences App and changed J2SE Version from 5.0 to 1.4.2 and back;
(4) repaired permissions, run maintenance scripts and rebuilt prebindings using Tiger Cache Cleaner;
(5) restarted and rebooted numerous times;
and it still doesn't work. I haven't done any cache cleaning yet, but I don't see the point.
I didn't download and reinstall Firefox because the problem is present in Safari as well. So far, it ONLY affects Thai Visa as far as I can tell. Other Java-based behaviours on the web seem to be unaffected and are recorded on the .
And as I said, Java is enabled in both Firefox and Safari. Any other ideas?

Thanks for the reply. Javascript was never DISabled. It's turned on in Firefox preferences, as it always has been. How do I (re)activate it?
