  1. Nothing "retroactive" about it. The arrest warrant was issued in 2013 after they (allegedly) skipped on their bill. They returned in 2015 and were caught. No different than if a warrant was issued today but the suspect isn't caught until 2+ years later.

Unless you are trying to suggest that walking out on a restaurant bill isn't a scam but being arrested and held accountable for doing so is ?

Must have been a fairly substantial bill for the restaurant to file a complaint and an arrest warrant to be issued.

If they did indeed do a runner thats pretty slack.. I just don`t know how they will be able to prove that they didnt pay the bill.. unless there is video that shows them running out.

  2. ..and to add to PowerhouseSteve`s post ..people like to observe and compare ..it isnt a bad thing to be judgemental either. You have to make judgements about who is around you and whether they are good for you or not..sometimes it can be a matter of life and death so I dont care being called racist because I know that I am not I use the same gauge for all people I encounter.. and sometimes patterns emerge ..just saying it how it is for me.

  3. What can I say rolleyes.gifwhistling.gifclap2.gifcheesy.gifcheesy.gifcheesy.gifcheesy.gifcheesy.gifcheesy.gif

    Why are you laughing?

They are entitled to ask to increase their income as any other person does on this earth.

Charging for luggage is very common in Europe.

    Why not in Thailand?

10 or 20Baht will hurt the pockets of the tourists?

In my opinion they should be allowed.

I agree. I remember my first trip to Thailand. As I walked towards the bus terminal in Bangkok a taxi driver shouts out "Hey you! where are you going?" I told him Suphan Buri and he quoted me 1500 bht. I told him to wait while I went inside to enquire . Inside the terminal they asked for 100 bht AND they put my suitcase on the front seat of a mini bus depriving the driver of taking on board a fare paying passenger. 110 kms for @ $4 AUD and diesel at 33bht/litre @ $1.10 AUD I wondered how it is that they make any money.. obviously they dont make much so why not let them charge for baggage. If I had my time again I would have given him a substantial tip but it was my maiden voyage and there was a lot to take in smile.png

  4. http://www.thephuketnews.com/arrest-warrant-issued-for-russian-woman-in-phuket-death-crash-46015.php

Do we know what the outcome of this was? If she is able to be identified but the law says she doesnt have to come back to Thailand to "explain" then why have an extradition treaty with Russia? Its normal to feel like running away AND knowing not all people act with integrity/maturity thats why we have laws.. she needs to be brought back to Thailand..she caused the death of a child and IF the Russians wont facilitate with bringing her back so she can have her day in court then hold them responsible..some way..Just makes me angry that HER negligence caused so much heartache and in the end NO JUSTICE as well.

  5. There needs to be an investigation..Why did the police not with hold the passport? They had the person responsible for the accident..where talking manslaughter here. What were the 4 police officers doing when the car went through their check point? Are they there just for looks. I can only read what is presented in article and If he was out just getting mosquito repellent at 1am in the morning then why cant the locals go about their business without being killed.... The police have a lot to answer for here..anyway why not get the name from the car rental mob..Sad loss for the family

  6. Cutting a bomb with a torch! wow the IQ levels in here seems to be very high

There was a previous Darwin award contender some years ago.

As I recall the story the night shift wanted to use some explosives to clear some rocks in a quarry.

But the day shift leader had locked the explosives shed with a padlock and left it locked until the next shift (it was a holiday weekend) I believe.

The night shift worker was never found.

He was last seen with a cutting torch in his hand swearing at the day shift leader and heading for the explosives shed that had the padlock on the door.

That was just before the explosion.

As I recall, this was a runner up for a Darwin award from the U.S.

Again someone blowing his own horn it would seem. The story you have just shared depicts a wilful act by someone wanting explosives knowing full well what they were being sought for. Hardly the same scenario. I remind you that there was a question posed by the scrap merchant that it looked like a bomb but after being reassured it was not they went about breaking it down into smaller manageable pieces..big mistake.. Is it a question of IQ or is it misinformation? acting in haste even?.. you sir could quite easily be mistaken as a white supremacist.. just saying

  7. It's all the fault of the farangs, who originally dropped the bomb on Thailand (or perhaps somewhere else in S.E.Asia), in the first place ! rolleyes.gif

The first operational deployment of the B-29 in WWII was a squadron based in New Delhi and in the early days of deployment the aircraft did not show signs it would later become an icon of the war in the Pacific and American air power - playing a leading role in the conquest of the Japanese Home Islands as an incredibly efficient weapon for the delivery of death and destruction on an industrial - if not apocalyptic - scale.

One of the first sorties from the Indian based long range bombers was a raid on facilities in the capital city of an enemy country ... Bangkok, Thailand. In all probability, the bomb was a gift from the US taxpayer delivered during one such raid.

Well educated young Thais I speak to are incredulous when I explain Thailand was an ally of Japan and part of the Axis forces in the Second World War. I read the Japanese forces needed to land in Thailand in order to advance through the Malay peninsula to Singapore and they invaded Thailand one morning with landing craft hitting the beach at about 8am - whereupon they were met with fierce resistance from the Thai military (I'm reminded of the Turkish defence of their homeland when invaded by the Allies at Gallipoli in WW1).

Sources indicate the battle raged mercilessly (the Warsaw uprising?) and bitterly (I'm reminded of Stalingrad) and destruction came to idyllic Southern Thailand (think Guadalcanal, Tarawa, Iwo Jima) but when a truce was finally agreed to by the battle-weary combatants at lunchtime, miraculously there were no deaths or injuries on either side of this epic defence of the Land of the Free. Truly an auspicious omen and reason enough to not only allow free and unhindered passage to the missionaries of the Greater East Asia Co-Prosperity Sphere but in fact to formally commit to joining their endeavours - a commitment that would last right up to the time that it was clear 'the horse is dead, get a new horse' and Thailand joined the Allies in time for the victory celebrations.

The general omission of this historical fact is in stark contrast to the open acknowledgement and contrition of the German people in relation to the atrocities of the Nazi regime and is more consistent with the Japanese refusal to acknowledge the stark and irrefutable proof of the barbarity and mindless cruelty of their military across Asia in the 1930's and 40's.

It leaves me wondering why there isn't more inquisitiveness about the apparent loose ends ... where did the people in that meticulously tended graveyard in Kanchanburi come from, and why is it that a third of the 22,000 Australians captured by the Imperial Japanese Army in South East Asia died in captivity?

Perhaps the answer lies in the fact that there is no real memorial commemorating the estimated 90,000 local civilian 'volunteers' that also perished at the hands of the Japanese occupation force welcome guests while building the Burma railroad - if such a memorial existed it would surely result in wider recognition and for some a quest for knowledge about what is clearly a shadow - if not a dark stain - lurking somewhere in the past.

It might also lead to the proud claim of 'never been colonised' being toned down somewhat on recognition that statement is correct but only by a technicality.

So, now that rant is over we can really get to the bottom of this sad explosion but alas it may never be known how it came to pass that that demolition thingy on the end of a crane could actually explode. But it did. Move along folks. There's nothing to see here folks. These aren't the droids you were looking for.

  8.

I'm surprised the Thai media hasn't yet blamed the falangs who dropped the bomb.

But then again, that would mean reminding the Thai people that they declared war on the UK and USA.

...and that they made an attempt to grab a sizeable chunk of cambodian territory... ask any thai and they know nothing about this...

I didn't know about Cambodia but I was told years ago that as the tha i & Jap govts were pretty chummy at the ttime they struck a deal that involved the thais getting Isaan which up to that time had been an annoying bit of Laos on tbe wrong side of the Mekong. The deal reputedly was for unopposed access for Japan from its new territoriws in Malaya & Singapore through LOS to attack Britain in Burma. (Bridge over River Kwai anyone???) The deal was done via Axis partnership with Germany & the Vichy puppet govt in France as of course it was party of French South East Asia. Don't forget, the Thai ambassador to England delivered the declaration of war but the ambassador to USA refused to deliver the War declaration to Washington & then asked for asylum. The sequel to this was arguments after WW2 between UK & USA as to how LOS should be treated as one had been officially at war & the other had not.

    Interesting ..

  9. Cutting a bomb with a torch! wow the IQ levels in here seems to be very high

I don`t know why I feel the need to stick up for the shop owner but apologies If he was`nt an expert on bombs..he did have his suspicions but in the end decided it must be a crane bucket.. just metal. No one in their right mind would hit a bomb with oxy acytelene flame..poor judgement.

Obviously you dont live in Thailand

No I do not... but there seems to be a lot of whinging about life over there..sometimes I read stuff and think if its so bad why are you guys over there.. I don`t get it

Yes, if she didn't give consent, totally inappropriate.

very appropriate.. A slippery nipple on the rocks before breakfast, if you know the location.

I find that a most inappropriate comment. I accept on face value that she is somewhat upset by this. Why won`t you?

Don't flout it, then complain. would you let your wife openly show her nipple, I think you would be angry with her. She sounds like she is wanting publicity.

The way I read it was to take it on face value Why? Because I was surprised to learn sometime ago that porn is illegal in Thailand so Im wondering If she needed to take a stance on this to make her position clear that is in case of legal ramifications.. I dont know and neither do any of you.. Just saying

  11. Was thinking about this.

Firstly Thais don't view pregnancy the same way we do. At least that is my experience.

One of my employees had a girl from his village follow him to Bangkok, eventually or predictable she got pregnant. Now at 20 she thinks the grass is greener et al. So she went away to live with here new beau. He was heart broken but now seems to have a new squeeze and the child id living with Grandma. Sure they both sent 1500 bhat a month to Grandma

    So in the OP's case.

Either tell her you will pay 3000B a month for 18 years

OR tell here that when the child is born she should ask the doctor for a DNA test and sent the profile/results to you. You will then get tested in Australia and compare your DNA to the results/profile she sent you. If it is yours tell her then what you will do....

Chances are she will not take you up on the DNA offer. I could be wrong but.....

3000 bht/month ??? I have sent on occassions 25,000 bht/month ..mind you I thought this was a woeful amount of money and told her so..She earnt 7,200/month when she was working 6 days a week and here I am sending her over 4 times this. I decided that I would`nt upset her while pregnant and would wait until i go over for the birth of our daughter which was 4th Oct 2013. When I got there in Kalasin I noticed a modest home with everything in it including a new LCD tv and her old bomb Toyota had gone from a metallic brown cracked body filler paint job to like new Silver paint..thinking I must have paid for this... I didnt make a fuss but in a quiet way told her the money I send her is predominantly for her and baby and a little for mum and dad..I now send 15,000 but shes saying closer to 18,000 is needed..I thought things were expensive here in Oz Im thinking shes better off living with me here .

  12. I`m in the same boat... Baby was born Oct 4 in Thailand to Thai mother and Australian father . that`s me . I tried to apply for Citizenship by descent for Baby got the Doctor to sign the Identity declaration and photographs of baby..but as I had to fly back home due to bushfire situation I left everything in Thailand for gf to sort out in Bangkok. I have just learned the baby will also need a Thai passport to leave Thailand??? So I`m thinking might as well sort that out same day gf does citizenship for bub and is in Bangkok anyway.. Just confirm for me please we need Thai passport for baby yes? Actually as I write this post it seems logical baby will need Thai passport.

  13. Yes, it's not as difficult as one would expect it to be to get a child Citiznship by Descent. In 1995 when my first child from my defacto Thai partner was born I simply took the birth registration papers original and translated to the Australian Emabassy and withinn a very short time was issued with a document Extract from Register of Citizenship by Descent.

Supapon or Emma as we know her was born 29 December 1995 and the certificate was issued on 2 February 1996.

Again on November 10 1998 and working in Ujung Pandang Indonesia when my second Thai daughter Alice was born we sent the Salvation Army Catherine Booth Hospital birth certificate to the Australian Embassy Jakarta. Indonesia does not issue government birth certificates to foreigners so the hospital birth paper was accepted without question along with my defacto's Thai Passport as her ID.. Alice got her Australian Exract from Register of Citizenship and passport on 10 November We eventually married in Australia in 2002

The only requirement in both cases was to have the birth papers translated and by an authorised Translation service recognised by the Australian Embassy.

Im wondering If thngs may have changed since 1995/1998. I am in a similar situation to what you were PlastikbinLina in that I am not married to my thai gf eventhough I am open to it If helps bub get her citizenship. My baby girl was born Oct 4 I flew in Oct 8 for 4 weeks to be here for the birth and help mum.. We spoke about dual citizenship and we both agree this is what we want for baby. My gf has lived with me in australia for 3 months on a tourist visa but had to return back to Thailand. So now after the birth and while I am sitting around wanted to get the ball rolling downloaded form 118 after email to embassy in regards to baby bonus etc. I am waiting to call Immigration and citizenship at 2.30 pm. It would seem that I will have a problem with the Identity declaration in that no Australian citizen here knows of baby to sign such declaration. Any ideas guys? I was planning on coming back in march next year to bring them home to QAustralia but IF I can sort out the citizenship + passport before I go it will be a bonus Cheers and Thx in advance.

  14. "Police investigators reported that nothing at the scene look suspicious and didn’t believe foul play was involved."

Isn't the death of a 31 year old suspicious by itself.

Normally people die of natural causes at an older age, but young people do die of natural causes.

Take an example of several prof football players who died of hearth failure in recent years. They have a good condition, doctor check-ups etc but still.

Yes of course people can die of natural causes at any age but if someone of 31 dies with no reported health problems a full investigation is needed to make sure if it was or was not natural causes.
