  1. Just to keep everyone who provided info on my post with an update. It was so easy. Left Thai embassy at 1340 and was sitting in my car on Thai side at 1440.

Got the non -o no problem.

also I got my TM6 before leaving Thailand to cut an extra 10 mins filling it out while leaving Laos!!

I wish all visa runs could be this easy!!

Anyway thx for all that helped me in this post.

  2. Just an update from Laos.. arrived at border at 12:30, my girlfriend had to use the new electric gate which of course didn't work haha... but we we on clear of Thai immigration within 5 minutes after filling in my girl and sons TM.6.
Bus came within 2 mins so it was going well.
Even better when arrived at Laos immigration window, I was the only 1 there, paid the money had passport back 2 minutes later... so quick!!
Only problem we had was haggling with the taxis... in my pervious visits I've always got a private car and paid him 500/600฿ and this is for him to take me to embassy - wait- take me to hotel - collect following day to collect passport and then back to the bridge.
Now for what ever reason they wanted 600฿ a day, we got him down to 1200฿ in total for all as the same as previous taxis I've used.
Anyway just the joys now of going the embassy in a few hours, let's hope I'm as lucky today as I was yesterday in regards to timings!!

Also I should have mentioned there was no Thai immigration counter on the Thai side leaving Thai they are all together, just wondering if any one knows if it's the same when entering Thailand from Laos tomorrow. As don't want have to leave my family alone while I'm queuing for long time entering Thai.
Any info again very helpful and if there is any way around it??

Haha ok.. I know it only takes 10 min max to do and I do believe that you can pay 1 of the student looking girls inside the building to do it for you, I'm sure I did this last time.

  5. I found best time is 1430 to 1530 the quite time no particular day.
Was going to hit it early but as i understand it from others the visa on arrivals on Laos side doesnt open till 0800 so i would suspect a queque. Although i cant get confirmation of this as everyone seems to have diffrent times.

Yeah we are planning about just after lunchtime to be at the border, then go to the hotel in Vientiane and do all the embassy stuff early next morning so we are not rushing around and hopefully be one of the 1st there so less queue time etc.

  6. Where the window is there are tables in front there are trays full of there TM6 type forms there. There is also people there who will help them fill them in for 20bht whilst your filling yours in.
Grab a few of there TM6 forms then you can have them ready next time. I try and get some extra Thai TM6 as well but they dont like giving them away.

    Ok that's great info.
I'm so looking forward to this trip... It's worst couple of days ever!!!

  7. Your wife and kid will need to fill out a TM6 Thailand side. Hand in exit portion on way out and inwards will be taken off them when reentering Thailand. They will also need to fill in the Laos TM6 type form same as you do. After i got my visa on arrival i just joined the queue my mrs was in for her 30 day stamp. Massive queue my passport was back to me in 3 mins took about 30 to 40 minutes for Mrs to get through only one open on far right and he was as slow as death. Still all adds to the fun.

    Thanks for the reply.
To be honest i did think they would have to fill out TM6 in Thailand.
But where does she get the Laos version TM6?
We get ours when we go to the window where you pay etc on Laos side But they don't use this window!!
We are hopefully going to be exiting Thai and entering Laos at a quieter time not 6am ish when it's just opened so hopefully it's a lot quicker than your experience.
    Yeah sounds fun for sure.
Thanks for letting me know this anyway it all helps to make it as stress free day as possible!!

Bilateral agreements between Thailand and a number of other countries exist and all pre-date the ASEAN agreements.

    Thanks again for your reply.
But all I was after was info on fee payments if any etc, not bilateral deals between Thailand and other countries!!
I maybe shouldn't have mentioned the ASEAN agreement as I was totally wrong!
But I do appreciate your info

    Thanks

  9. When you get the Lao side your will need to get your visa on arrival at the windows marked ‘visa on arrival’ which are just after the seats and tables provided for filling in the paper work, you go to window 1 (knock if it is not open) and they will give you a visa application form and an entry/exit card.  Fill out the application form and the entry part of the card and hand them over at window 2 (sometimes window 1) along with your payment and a passport photo.  You then walk to the right of the window and immediately left around the corner is another window, (there are clocks just above showing world time zones). This is window 3 and you will receive your passport back here. Waiting time can be 20- 30 minutes on some occasions, but sometimes you get lucky and your passport is returned in just a few minutes.
You will already be stamped into Laos so you do not need to queue at the immigration kiosks further along.  (Check your passport to make sure you ARE stamped in).  Walk straight past the immigration kiosk queues and go to the barriers, keep to the left side of the barriers where someone will let you through a gate because you do not need to buy a ‘customs fee’ ticket as you paid for a visa.
As for your Lady and son using Thai passports, they do not need a visa, they should go to the kiosk at the right side of the arrival area which says something like  ‘customs fee’, they will show their passports, pay a small fee and get ticket cards that will open the barriers that are located further down.  Immediately behind the kiosk is a table with staff who will provide them with arrival/exit cards (free), they should fill in the arrival part and then go to the queue at one of the immigration kiosks.
After getting stamped in they will continue forward and use the card they got at the first kiosk to pass through the automatic barrier.  There is a final check of passports by an officer at a table just as you leave the arrival area.

    Thanks for the reply.
I understand all what I have to do as been plenty of times.
It was just the info for my family as it's the first time I've brought them with me and just to make things as smooth and easy as possible was after as much info as possible so there is no hassles.

    Thanks for your info

  10. I was not attempting to answer your question but rather seeking to correct your misunderstanding of the nature of the ASEAN agreements.

    Totally understand.
As you can see I have no idea about the ASEAN agreements and that's why I thought i would ask as I thought it was because of the ASEAN agreement but as some one else has just pointed out it's a deal between Lao and Thailand.

    Thanks

  11. They will not need to get a Lao visa on arrival. They will get a free 30 day visa exempt entry under a bilateral agreement between Laos and Thailand. No need for photos.

    Thanks again ubonjoe.

But is there a separate counter Thais go to or do they just walk straight through the Lao immigration counter and get it issued there and not at the counter office where farangs wait to get there visa?

    Thanks

    Scott
  12. Another piece of advice once on the Lao side, what's the process for my girlfriend and son using their Thai passports, do they have to use the same desk as me when getting my Lao visa, fill out the same arrival card etc just as farangs?
Also do they need to take passport size pics with them if that's the case?
And I suppose they don't have to pay as it's part of ASEAN?

    Thanks

    Scott

Get your son a Thai passport, it can be done same day if you are in Bangkok, then you Leave Thailand on Thai passport and Enter UK on UK passport, Leave UK on UK passport and enter Thailand on Thai passport. Immigration told us to do this way and this is what we have done on numerous occasions including visiting Italy etc. No need for visas. There will be NO implications down the line but I understand when the children reach 18 years old they have to choose 1 passport, Thailand doesn't support dual citizenship.

Also last year we went to Malaysia but my sons thai passport had expired, something we'd overlooked, big mistake because immigration here in Chiang mai would not let him pass for the flight on his UK passport alone, I'm not exactly sure of the reason and no amount of reasoning or arguing would change there minds, it's the law apparently. We had to fly to Bangkok for a same day Thai passport and a new flight to Malaysia, then used existing return, all with Air Asia. So keep BOTH passports up to date.

    Hi

    thanks for your message.

we have just been to the local psssport office this morning for his Thai passport and was told we will have it back about Friday. So all good.

Theres been a lot of helpful info on this post I started and im

glad I did, otherwise if we did exit Thai to loas then re-enter on his uk it would have caused lots of problems as a few of the posters on here have pointed out. It never crossed my mind if we entered Laos using his uk passport he would then have to do the similar to other uk citizens if I have worded that correctly.

Thanks for every ones help in this subject
