Posting this after trying to do it about 15 hours ago just before the forum went down. At least it was saved for me to post now.

The re-entry permit will be valid for entry up to the date the 90 day entry ends. If you left with 70 days remaining and was out of the country for 35 days you would still have 35 day remaining when you go stamped into the country. Them if you got a 60 day extension you could get another re-entry permit for it and the remaining days left on your original entry.

You can apply for the re-entry permit at you local immigration or at some airport on departure from the country. You can get a re-entry permit 24 hours a day at either airport in Bangkok.

You would complete a TM8 form and attach 4 X 6 cm photo to it. You will need copies of your passport photo page, visa, entry stamp and TM6 departure card.

    Thanks ubonjoe

ill mske sure I have a these passport copies / visa etc well in advance.

And my TM6 is akwats kept in passport locked in safe.

But thanks again you have all been very useful.

For safety, take a visa size photo with you, though at Suvarnabhumi, they have a machine that will usually deal with this (occasionally not operational). Take 1,200 baht, but it is possible to get the re-entry permit for 1,000 baht if you bypass the desk filling out forms and operating the photo machine. I have always found 15 minutes sufficient, but I would allow 30 minutes for safety.

    Thanks again.

I akwats carry passport pics with me you never know when they will come in handy. and 15- 30 mins sounds great.

    Thanks.

In both cases, you get the re-entry permit after check in before you fly out of the country. At Don Muang, you go so the same desk that handles overstays, immediately after being stamped out. At Suvarnabhumi, you do it at a desk to the extreme left of the immigration desks, and do it just before being stamped out of the country. A small warning: at Suvarnabhumi, there are two international departure areas. You need to use departure zone 2 when planning to get a re-entry permit. I suggest you double check by asking those who verify your boarding pass as you go towards security to ensure you are going the right way.

    Thanks for the reply.

Yeah I know the desk at Suvarnabhumi. And I will ask when there if needed when the time comes.

And is it just a case of asking for re-entry at the desk and paying the fee?

How long does it normally take?

Sorry if I sound a bit daft but just trying to get all the info.

    Thanks

Generally speaking, you can do it either way. If visiting immigration anyway to get an extension, you might just as well get it done then. If you do not already have one, and leaving via Suvarnabhumi or Don Muang, it is probably more convenient to do it there .

    Thanks BritTim.

Ive actually had a few of these single entry non - o now and wasted loads of days as not been aware I could get a re - entry.

As I've never did it before where in the airport do you do this?

Just cos I usually get short call notice to go to work and would have no time to do it at immigration.

    Thanks again

Also consider that if you used your son's UK passport to take him to Laos (because he didn't have a Thai passport), he would use his UK passport to enter back into Thailand.

This would mean your son would enter Thailand on the basis of being a UK citizen. To be correctly documented he would need a 1 year extension of stay in his passport the same as any other person entering on a foreign passport. This requirement would continue until he next left Thailand and re-entered on his Thai passport.

Obviously, you want to avoid this sort of thing and always use his Thai passport to enter and leave Thailand. As stated, use his UK passport on arrival in the UK.

Hi thanks for your message and your info also. We are actually going to apply for his Thai passport today at the local passport office.

It makes perfect sense now and I'm glad it was pointed out to me and yep it would have made things a lot more complicated.

    Thanks again for your input

You can get a re-entry permit that will keep the remainder of the 90 day entry valid when you re-enter the country. You can also get one for the 60 day extension.

    Thanks for the reply again.

So for example if my work call me 20 days in to my 90 days I will have 70 days remaining plus the 60 days extension?

Also I take it I would need to re- enter before the initial 90 days expired?... which usually wouldn't be a problem as it's normally around 4-5 weeks offshore.

If you don't mind how do I apply for the re-entry?

Is this done at the airport or local immigration before I return to work?

    Thanks again

When leaving the country for a trip to the UK he would still use his Thai passport for departure at immigration. He would only show his UK passport to the airline for checkin to prove he is a citizen of the UK and does not need a visa for entry.

Sorry to bother you again ubonjoe.

But you are always very knowledgable about visa questions I have asked previously.

When I go to loas to get my non /o single entry which is valid for 90 days plus 60 day extension at immigration can I apply for a re-entry if I get called back to work as I work offshore?

I hsve normally been only getting the 30 day extension at immigration as work has been busy but I'm going to be here longer than my usual month on and month off hence the reason I'm going to get the non-o again.

But like I just said if my work suddenly call me can I get a re entry or once I leave is it expired?

I hope I've explained it well enough.

    thanks again

Avoid ever using your son's UK passport for leaving or entering Thailand. It is asking for complications down the line.

Thanks for your reply and info but your saying to avoid ever using his uk passport leaving Thailand but obviously  if we ever take him to UK or any where in the EU to visit family or holiday it would be lot easier and logical using his UK passport due to not having to get a uk or EU visa which would be required if using his Thai 1!

i understand for leaving and entering in ASEAN / Asia region

    Is this not correct??

It would be best if you got you son a Thai passport. No Lao visa on arrival would be needed since he would get a 30 day visa exempt entry.

Using the UK passport will be the same as for you a Lao VOA and departure card.

He could also get a border pass as a Thai national that would allow a 3 day stay in Vientiane. Cost is only about 50 baht. His birth certificate a copy of his house book registry would be needed.

    Thanks for the quick reply.

Ill go and apply for his Thai passport this week as it does seem lot easier.

    Thanks again

  10. Hi,

I'm wondering if any one can help me with a question. I need to go to Laos soon ( Vientiane) to renew my visa. I'm planning to take my girlfriend and son with me for a few days trip. I think I understand my girlfriends entry requirements , but it's my son who is 11 months old and has a uk passport although born here in Thailand.

Whats his requirements for exit from Thai and entry in to Laos?

is it the same as mine, do we need to fill out a TM.6 arrival / departure card?

same cost for loas visa etc?

Any info / help would be appreciated.

    Thanks

    Do's and don'ts

    Nakon Phanom going to Mukdahan:

Yes, I got ripped off for the 400b minivan to the Mukdahan bus station. Lesson learned. Not many choices though and had to do it.

As in the report, get off at the bridge.

If you book the Nok Air shuttle van, it drops you off at the bridge too, and continues the old and run down Ploy Hotel. AVOID IT!

    Thai immigration drama leaving Thailand:

Old general walks the line and asks to see everyone's passport. Looks at mine, sees a Non B not yet canceled.

Asks me <deleted>. Follow me to upstairs. Upstairs is next door, no upstairs. He walks me up to a Thai immigration lady. Many bars on her shoulder, high ranking lady, very good English.

While she is talking to me, the old general is taking videos and photos of every part of my being.

Problem: I did not cancel the Non B at the local office. She requested I go back to Phuket. I told her that I have no job, I did not want to stay illegally in Thailand that is why I am leaving now, to go back and look for a job to feed wife and son. She softens up a bit. I DID NOT GET ANGRY NOR PANIC.

She explained that the visa must be canceled. She showed me the cancellations of other Non Bs in my passport (job changes) and wanted that cancellation.

I express my regret and complete and utter sorrow. She asked if the school can fax her something. I reminded her it was a Sunday. Oh, ka, she said. She looked at every page.

She commented on all my yearly visa extensions going back 9 years. The thespian in me came out! Oh, I never want to leave my beautiful Thailand. I love it, I love the food and I must take care of my wife. This trip is very expensive for me as I do not have a job. Ka she said. Ok, I give you exit ka. Gave me the exit stamp and left. I tried desperately to find a toy Oscar  statuette  in Savannakhet but could not find one.

    Laos Immigration:

Get off the bus. Do not follow the locals to the windows in front of you. Get off the bus and go the first window to the far left. This window faces the other windows. It is for the farangs.

DO NOT GO BACK to the area you got off the bus, like I did. Go past immigration, show the visa to the little general at the table and get on the bus. It is waiting for you there. I did not see any tuk tuks.

    Savannakhet bus station:

I got off the bus and pretended to look confused. Sure enough, the tuk tuks swarmed all around me. Avalon hotel I said. Ok, 200b. I pointed to the hotel and said 200B? They all walked away!

    Avalon / Aura hotel:

New building with lifts. I was of course, placed on the annex building. An old but restored French colonial house. Lovely, but I requested a room with a lift to it or no stairs as I have a bad leg. Sigh. Breakfast is supposed to be included, though I sat like an idiot and waited and nothing happened.

There are two restaurants there. Both very high priced. They take baht at a bad rate. I will avoid this place next time. It might be ok for some people here. Rooms are clean.

    Thai consul to the bridge:

Easier to take a tuk tuk for 50b. Wait for the bus there. If you pick up the passport at 2ish, you have time to go to the bridge and catch the bus there or wait a few minutes.

    Thai bridge:

Forget the bus. Walk (see pic) to the tuk tuks. Go to the bus station directly (or Ploy if you are on the Nok Air Shuttle to wherever).

Tuk tuk with two people 150b. Got there fine, minivan to Nakon Panom 100b and off I went.

    Why:

My flight was at 11 something the next morning. I did not want to sleep in Mukdahan knowing it is a 2 hour ride back to NP. I booked the S&G hometel on booking.com and reserved the room. The owner picked me up at the bus stop. Speaks very good English. New hotel (no, I do not have any vested interest)

Breakfast at 8 as requested, left at 9 and all ok. Highly recommend the hotel. She can help you with everything.

    Laos food:

I did not eat any street food. One thing that was interested is the French bread in the morning. EVERYWHERE! Remnants of French colonialism. Good taste. They put meats and onions and other things in them. I just ate it as is, for obvious reasons. No real places to eat. There is a high so cafe shop (owner comes by at the consul to give out pamphlets). Never went, feedback was it is overpriced. You decide.

    Funniest thing seen in Thailand:

Don Muang. An elderly monk slapping the arm of this man who had a cane, like 10 times, sold him a cd and got a 100b in return. Blew my mind. I was in tears.

    Thanks for reading!

    Which documents were required ?

The documents required in the check list document from VFS for us was my UK passports original and ever page colour copied, my UK birth cert original and colour copy,  my sons Thai birth cert original and colour copy also translated, my girlfriend ID card original and colour copy, my girlfriends birth cert original and colour copy and translated, a utitily bill showing current address in Thailand if in Thai translated which mines needed to be, the passport application form and 2 pics of my son which was countersinged by a teacher friend, I also included a copy of the countersinger passport photo page and got him to sign it.

We was actually in and out the interview room within 10 minutes as everything was correct.

    Hope this helps

If you mean is it the same person that is counter signing the application form for your son's passport application, then it absolutely has to be the same person.

If it is for your own passport application in addition, then I see no reason why not.

If I remember correctly, for a Child passport, the counter signatory has to have known you for the period of time, not necessarily the child.

    Thanks again for the info.

On the back of the photo, the person confirming its a pic of my son just writes ' I confirm this is a true likeness of (name)'

and obviously the person signing it signature?

    is this correct?

  14. Thanks for every ones input on my toilet issue, I would just like to inform everyone who commented that my toilet seems to be working as it was before the problem.

i can only think like some one mentioned on this topic it could be due to the large storms we had 2 days last week and this was somehow affecting our toilet, but like I said I'm no expert!!

It's now flushing as it should using the button and everything is gone within few seconds as it should.

We did have a Thai guy plumber come to have have a look and he put these tubes either side of toilet ( see attached pics), I don't think this is the reason it's working again as it wasn't until this morning we actually noticed it was working perfect again and we've had no heavy rain for about 4 -5 days now.

But thanks for everyone's info / help, we are still going to ask a professional from karat outlet that some one suggested in a PM just to make 100% sure problem / solution if it happens again.

    • You could extend a 30 day Visa Exempt entry by 30 days for tourism or 60 days to visit your son.
    • There is no limit of the number on Single Entry Non 'O's you could get from Laos, but your best option would be to get a Multiple Entry from Penang.

I never realised I could get 60 day extension on 30 day exempt. But you are correct the Penang option is by far the best option, snd I can come and go to and from work as much times in the year.

    Thanks for your input

They should accept the original of your proof of income. Getting a income letter from the UK embassy would be the best proof to show. You can apply for it by mail. See: https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/how-to-obtain-a-pensionincome-letter-for-thai-immigration

Ok that's brilliant. I will have a look at that now.

Not sure what option to go with yet ,the single entry to Laos which would do me for 90 + 60 days anyway would probably suit me due to work but then again one trip to Penang would save me that 2 days hassle.

So just to clarify if I was to enter Thai after my trip offshore I would get 30 days obviously, would I be able to get 30 day extension at immigration and if need be and work hasn't called go to Laos and get the single non- o every time??

    thx again

You can get a multiple entry non-o visa in Penang.  The visa would allow unlimited 90 day entries for a year from the date of issue.

You can show 400k baht in a bank. It does not have to be in a Thai bank (bank book/statesmen). Or you could show proof of at least 40k baht income (pay slips, bank book/statement showing the funds going in and etc).

You could get as many single entry non-o visas as you want to. Some people are staying here on them and getting a 60 day extension of each 90 day entry to visit their child.

Info for legitimizing your parent hood can be found in this topic.

Ok that's great info thanks for your help again.

i will have a look at the link regarding how to gain legitimate parenthood!

do I need to get the payslips or bank statements authorised by anyone, like UK embassy, or a letter from then proving its a true income etc?

    thanks

You can get the multiple entry non-o visa in Penang based upon being the parent of at Thai. Savannakhet Laos will not do one.

If you get a re-entry permit for the 90 day entry from your non-o visa you will stamped in the same date got when you entered the country using the visa.

You can apply for the re-entry permit at a immigration office or at either airport in Bangkok when leaving the country.

    Hi ubonjoe

    thanks again for your reply.

So if I was to go to Penang when I return from work I'd get a multiple non -o from there, not only the 90 day single entry?

also what's the process for proving the funds?

is it 400k or 40k per month in Penang also?

also cos I work offshore and could only be here say 3 weeks of course the visa wouldn't be required, but if I was not working for an extended period let's say I entered on 30 day visa got an extension at immigration for another 30 days (like this time), then went to Laos for example sake would I have no problem getting this single non - o again?

And is there a set amount of times I can do this?

i hope you understand what I mean, and hopefully you can answer my question.

Also if you don't mind what is the procedure for going through the courts to prove I'm the legal father of my kid since we are not married?

    timescale etc?

    do you know?

    cheers again ubonjoe

Is there a vent pipe for this toilet?  If water level got high at some point it could have become blocked with poo and dried out so not venting from toilet pipe so will not get a good flush action (water will just seep out).  Often Thai install without even providing such a vent but if working OK before there probably is one - look for a water type pipe going vertical inside or outside of toilet area (they often end in attic area here if inside) - this could be cleaned with air or water pressure (but if septic tank open be aware it can splash as exits).   Here most vents will only be 1/2 or 3/4" water pipe so easy to get blocked.

No I don't believe there is a vent in the toilet, the plumber was explaining this to my girlfriend yesterday, so when we renovate bathroom this is a must.
