  1. I listen to Radio 5 Live every morning from 07.00 Thai time. The program  is named Up all Night .2 main presenters, Mon-Thurs Rhod Sharp and Fridays and W/E Dotun Odebayo. Great presenters, wide range of topical subjects and interesting interviews. On my day off I will then switch to Radio 4 for the Shipping Forecast and on to Today.

Keeping in mind the majority of his overstay occurred during a time when such an extended overstay could be cleared up with 20,000 baht and the perpetrator could fly out and return very next day, I don't see what all the condemnation is about.  It used to be a very common practice to maximize the days in country for the inevitable 20,000 fine.  It's only been in the last couple of years that the rules tightened up.

I'd suggest the guy write a book detailing how to stay under the radar for so long.  Lots of folks who don't have the juevos to post up here could probably benefit.

BTW, I'm on a very legal WP before anyone goes there in reply to my post here.  But I agree- there but for the Grace of God (or the luck of the draw for you atheists).

Seeing as he has overstayed for such a length of time I doubt that writing is within his capabilities. After all he doesn't seem to be able to read the rules governing overstays .

In Vientiane recently, I was quite surprised by the number of French nationals there - about 70% of tourists.

Franchises can be a financial death-trap if the franchisor makes the franchisee a captive of the supply chain. A lot of franchisees in Australia under huge stress.

I'd agree - get the fast food experience first by working in a fast food chain. If you can't make it to store manager, possibly it's not for you.

You were surprised by the amount of French Nationals there..... wow....I guess history was not one of your strongest subjects.

There used to be a queue where BOI work permit / visa holders were allowed. I used it once in DMK. Is that the same queue? Still there?

I am informed that BOI can use it but your need a letter from them which you must carry when you enter. I have seen the letter (of an extremely reliable person) but it does not seem to have any form number etc.

  5. On Naklua Rd, between Soi 16 and Soi 14 as going towards the fish market, there is a shop which sells birds and a selection of fish both tropical and marine. The owner and his wife are super helpful and he is a very good aquascaper. They will also do a monthly service for your tanks.

  6. Buy your underpants and socks from Marks and Spencers. They are more expensive here but high quality.  When you send your clothes to the laundry make sure you tell them NO BLEACH.

I have boxer shorts from M&S which are over 3 years old and no elastic failures. Avoid the cheap fakes at the markets.

  7. I recently lost my BKK Bank Visa Debit card.... swallowed by a poorly maintained ATM. This time I can only get an Union Pay card as they are no longer issuing Visa debit cards. I visited 3 places today:

    1) Fascino Pharmacy.... Initally they couldn't accept it until they realised that they were using the wrong terminal. Switch to the BKK Bank terminal and all OK.... With me having to enter my pincode. Happy with that.

    2) Marks and Spencers.... no problem, pincode again and away we go.

    3) Central Festival Pattaya Supermarket... Ooop... sorry, we cant take Union Pay.

So which chains will not accept it? I have heard that Big C will also not take it?

    Feedback please folks

PS.... good to see the pincode being required.

  8. Good to see that they have paid up. Well done.

Please remember the power of social media. They will almost certainly post on it to show their pictures of their wonderful holiday and the food. They will almost always just accept friend requests with foreign names. Ask 3 of your staff to add them Get accepted and wait. Judge the time difference and post in the middle of the night in their zone that they have not paid. Make sure you include the amount and the equivalent in the currency of the country that they live in.

Social media shame is almost as good as Karma these days.

Just don't do it to Thai customers.

  9. I very rarely buy breast as I find thighs much tastier with the added benefit of the skin. I get mine from Tesco Express in Soi Boukeaw in packs of 2 from the chilled section. They are super... I then just either take them out of the packs and pop them into zip lock bags for freezing or simply put the whole pack in the freezer.

Breasts are available also. They seem to sell out a couple of times a week so there is a good turnover.

International airlines are now required to provide immigration with Advanced Passenger Information (API) before flight departure.  This info is checked against the immigration database and if you have a ‘marker’ against you the airline will be advised not to accept you for travel.

If you do manage to get through the API check as soon as you present your passport to the IO at a point of entry it is put onto a scanner which checks a number of things.  One thing is that the scanner reads the code at the bottom of the main page (with your photo on it) and compares it with their database.  If you have a close look at the code it is easy to work out.

    P = Passport

    <XXXFamilyName<  ( where XXX = Country Code)

    <Given names<<<<<

    <Passport numberZ< (where Z is a check number)

    <XXX<  (Country Code)

<Date of birth  (YYMMDDZ where Z = a check number)

    M or F (Sex)

Date of expiry of passport  (YYMMDDZ where Z =a  check number)

The only thing that will change when you present a new passport is your passport number, the system will match all the other info then show your photo and previous history.  Even if you change your family and given names the system is still able to throw up photos of people who have the same country code + sex + date of birth.  Remember, if you are refused entry because of a ban, then you will have to fund your flight out of Thailand.

Whilst I do understand that many countries require APIS I am not aware that Thailand does, at this time, require it. Most refusals at the check in desk are based on the airline database of requirements (i.e. Ticket out of the country within the stated duration of stay) but not APIS. If it were when how do all the criminals and kiddie fiddlers get in? it would be so easy for the courts to add a block to their APIS info.
