Davef2912, i note that you have only a few posts recorded so you may be new to T'land. One thing the more settled farangs have found is that T'land has many, many unexplainable features...all of which can be lumped under 'Thainess'. And most of the older farangs simply accept Thainess in all it's wondrous forms and quickly move on in life, as fast as possible.
actually I have been in Thailand for almost 10 years and I heard about 'Thainess' before but thought that this would mostly relay to the behavior, not to unexplained explosion sounds...
But if there are mystery booms in the USA, why couldn't it be that there are similar sounds here? Afaik there has been no real explanation to what the sounds in the USA are caused by.
I'm just curious to what these sounds were caused by as I said they occurred on an early Sunday morning and didn't sounds like any firecracker they usually use at a temple ceremony nor supersonic booms, nor bird scare guns.
Military explosions - yeah, could be, but on an early Sunday morning? And as mentioned, I am living near Wat Umong, not in Mae Rim where most of the military facilities are...
-
Definitely not a bird scare gun, sounded much bigger, like an 'boom', not like a shot and I am living near Wat Umong, far, far away from Sansai.

Do you live in a condo? Maybe it was the sounds of boom boom, not boom. There was another thread on TVF yesterday about loud boom boom sounds.?
? no, I am sure it came from outside ?

Did see a B1 flying low over my house in Pattaya, a few months ago. We're close to the flightpath for Utapo. 2 days later it was reported that 2 B1's had flown over the Korean Penninsula.
These planes are around in Thailand, could be a sonic boom.
Thanks for the info.
However, I am quite certain that it was not a sonic boom as I know that sound.
It sounded more like a loud 'heartbeat.' Kind of 'hollow' sound more likely from the ground than from the sky imho.

Could be large firecrackers for a wedding or some other celebration.
Hhmm, could be, but at 7 AM on a Sunday morning?

Interesting. I am living with view towards the Airport. I can assure there were not fighter jets flying this morning. I have also been in the Airforce myself for 4 years and I am sure it was no sounds from Airplane. By the way there are no supersonic airplanes stationed at Chiang Mai Airfield afaik.

Like 10 in a row? Between the booms there were breaks of about 10 -20 seconds.
I was thinking it was a construction machine, one of these that ram metal beams into the ground but cannot think of any construction site around here and not of any that would work on a Sunday morning at this time.

Hey everyone,
It's Sunday 22.07.2018 morning around 7:20 AM and I am in my apartment near Wat Umong, Chiang Mai.
Over the last 10 minutes I heard a couple of 'boom' sounds, sounding like a loud heartbeat or a small explosion far away.
I realized that I have heard these sounds before and remember that in the USA there are ongoing stories about mysterious 'boom sounds' and was wondering if that might be the same here.
Has anyone else heard the same sounds?
Does anyone know what the source of these sounds is?
I'm curious...

I'm German.
Do I need to show 20.000 THB in cash when I arrive in Thailand on a 60-day tourist visa?
Thanks
-
Does anyone know if at the consulate anyone checks if the return ticket is real or not?
-
Thanks everyone for the feedback!
The money must be on a bank account? I can not show it in cash?

Hi,
I am planning to get a 3 month tourist visa in HCMC, Vietnam.
On the website it says it would take 2 working days. Can anyone confirm that?
I am used to Vientiane where one usually hands in the paperwork in the morning and can pick up the visa on the next day in the afternoon.
Can someone describe the process in Saigon /HCMC for me, please?
Also what kind of documents and things do I really require? On the website it states that I need to show 20.000 THB?
Can I pay in Vietnamese Dong there or do I need USD or THB?
Thanks

I see. Thanks.

Hello,
a local school offered to employ me as consultant (?) including Non-Imm-B Visa and work-permit.
For some reason that I don' t understand I was told that the stamp when I LEFT Thailand would be necessary for some document needed to apply for the B Visa.
I have never heard of this and find it quite strange.
The way it is expected from me right now is that I would leave the country, make a scan of the page in my passport with the stamp I got when I left Thailand, email it to the school BEFORE I get back into Thailand and then it would take around 1 week to get the dubious document...
Has anyone ever heard or experienced this before?

Thank you very much

Has anyone done this recently and can tell me what the exact requirements for a Non-B Visa in Ho Chi Minh City are?
Thanks
-
So it would technically be working on an ED-Visa?
-
Thanks for the answer
So one would apply for the work permit first and then go to the immigration to get the visa changed into a B-Visa?
-
Hello,
someone applied at my school with an ED visa and the owner told him that he would need to change to a B visa in order to be able to get a work permit. So far so good. But she said that she could help him to do this without having to leave the country (?).
In my 8 years in Thailand I have never heard of something like that and I wonder if
a.) this is possible
and
b.) if possible if this is legal
Does anyone know this?
Thanks

Hello,
I am currently on a 30 day "Visa on arrival' (or what is it called when you have only the stamp in your passport?)
Before I was on a 3 months Non-B visa which ultimately got not extended because I had some trouble with the company.
However, my friends told me that I can extend this 30 day 'Visa on arrival' for another 30 days at Promenada Immigration here in Chiang Mai.
Is that true?
I am German btw.
Thanks for the replies

'Uuii!', "Oii!', "Uhh!" - useless pack of idiots all around! No one helps the lady on the floor in dire need! In my country all of them would be prosecuted for failure to help but in Thailand this is normal. It's about time the government introduces a proper driving test including first aid course so nobody can claim that they didn't know how to help the victim.
I am really proud on Germany in this matter. We have a lot of traffic and cars but strict regulations are enforces to achieve a quite low number of traffic deaths in relation to our population.
One can only prey that he will never have an accident here.

A lawyer I know mentioned that it would be possible to obtain a work permit on marriage visa.
I had never heard that before.
It is true?
Any experiences with that?
Thanks

Thanks for the replies.
So what are my options right now? Anyone any suggestions?
I'm living in Chiang Mai so right now I am thinking of going to Mae Sai and get 15 or 30 days on my way back into the country and then have more time to figure out the visa situation.
What do you guys think?

interesting. I also noticed puffs of white smoke sometimes on Doi Suthep. Does anyone know what it is? What are they blowing up in the forest? At 7 AM on a Sunday morning
