  1. Hi,

I am planning to get a 3 month tourist visa in HCMC, Vietnam.

On the website it says it would take 2 working days. Can anyone confirm that?

I am used to Vientiane where one usually hands in the paperwork in the morning and can pick up the visa on the next day in the afternoon.

Can someone describe the process in Saigon /HCMC for me, please?

Also what kind of documents and things do I really require? On the website it states that I need to show 20.000 THB?

Can I pay in Vietnamese Dong there or do I need USD or THB?

    Thanks

  2. Hello,

a local school offered to employ me as consultant (?) including Non-Imm-B Visa and work-permit.

For some reason that I don' t understand I was told that the stamp when I LEFT Thailand would be necessary for some document needed to apply for the B Visa.

I have never heard of this and find it quite strange.

The way it is expected from me right now is that I would leave the country, make a scan of the page in my passport with the stamp I got when I left Thailand, email it to the school BEFORE I get back into Thailand and then it would take around 1 week to get the dubious document...

Has anyone ever heard or experienced this before?

  3. Hello,

someone applied at my school with an ED visa and the owner told him that he would need to change to a B visa in order to be able to get a work permit. So far so good. But she said that she could help him to do this without having to leave the country (?).

In my 8 years in Thailand I have never heard of something like that and I wonder if

    a.) this is possible

    and

b.) if possible if this is legal

    Does anyone know this?

    Thanks

  4. Hello,

I am currently on a 30 day "Visa on arrival' (or what is it called when you have only the stamp in your passport?)

Before I was on a 3 months Non-B visa which ultimately got not extended because I had some trouble with the company.

However, my friends told me that I can extend this 30 day 'Visa on arrival' for another 30 days at Promenada Immigration here in Chiang Mai.

    Is that true?

    I am German btw.

    Thanks for the replies

  5. Furthermore one of the officers at Suvannaphum Immigration said that I 'could not do like that' (meaning only leaving Thailand to extend me visa in a bordering country) but would have to 'go back to my home country once a year.' The other officer present said that I would have to leave the country at least once a year to another country which shares no border with Thailand.

Wondering where Thai Immigration takes the right from to tell me where I have to go or not....

  6. Hello everyone,

I have been in Thailand for a couple of years now and used to have Non-B and Non-IB visas in the past. More than a year ago I was engaged with an NGO and holding a Non-O visa. For the last year I have been on a education visa.

Recently I visited my home country and when I arrived at the suvannaphum immigration was at first denied entrance into the country.

The officer was curious how I could manage to finance my stay in Thailand for the last 2 years without any income.

In fact I work online and earn money this way.

However at that moment the immigration would only let me into the country if I bought a ticket back to my home country for in one month's time. Which I did.

The officers further explained that she would check if I left the country on that date or not and that I would be in 'big trouble' if I wouldn't and that I would only be allowed to come back to thailand with a Non-B visa and paperwork that is going to employ me.

All of the above while still being on legal and not expired ED Visa.

I asked at the school where I study thai language and where I got the visa from if they have heard of a story like this and was told, that they had an american gentleman on his first thai visa ever which was an ED-visa from my school. He frequently went back to to the US to look after his business there and at one day when coming back visa Suvannaphum airport was denied entrance to the country. He then flew to Hong Kong and to Chiang Mai and got into the country without trouble.

More than 2 weeks have passed and I found a company which is going to employ me and I am going to get a Non-B visa. The paperwork however will not be ready in time until the date of my flight back to my home country which brings me to my question:

Do I really have to leave the country just because the officer told me so even though my visa is not expired ?

    or

could I wait until the documents are ready, then go to Penang instead of my home country and get the B visa from there?

Anyone ever experienced something like this? And how serious do I have to take verbal threads by the immigration staff despite having no comment or note in my passport and my visa still being valid until the mid of November?

    Thanks for any feedback!

  7. Hi,

I am working for a charity and we have volunteer helping out from time to time (of course unpaid).

Some of the volunteers have Non-O Visa and work-permit, some are coming on irregular basis and are on a retirement visa.

Now, technically, they are working illegally, correct? Even if it is for a charity and they get no payment and the charity is making no proftit?

One of them mentioned, that a friend of him (on retirement visa), is also helping out at another charity but is paying them for the 'allowance' which would make it legal. Anyone knows about that?

Also sometimes we have volunteers coming while travelling which led to the point that we figured whenever you pay, it is legal?

For example when you are taking a cooking class as a tourist - you are basically 'working' by yourself but paying for the experience.

Is that something you can compare?

    Any advise would be appreciated!

  8. Okay, so I found the information on the website of the Thai Consuluate:

    For the purpose of voluntary services, documents required are;
    1. Recommendation letter addressed to the Embassy, coupled with the certified copy of the endorser's ID
or passport and work permit in Thailand
    2. Copy of registration certificate of the employer/foundation/organisation
    3. Copy of the previous/current work permit (if any)

So the fee is 2000 THB for single entry,

anyone knows, if I can apply for the multiple entry? Is it then 5000 THB?

  9. So right now I found the following information on the website of the Thai consulate in Saigon:

    2. DOCUMENTS REQUIRED

    • Passport or travel document with validity not less than 6 months
    • Visa application form completely filled out
    • Recent (4 x 6 cm.) photograph of the applicant
    • Recommendation letter addressed to the Consulate
    • Copy of registration certificate of the employer/foundation/organisation
    • Copy of the previous/current work permit (if any)
    • Copy of the employment contract (if any)
    • Consular officers reserve the rights to request additional documents as deemed necessary

    3. VISA FEE

    80 USD

Is that correct and also the same in Vientiane?

    Thanks

  10. I can apply for a work-permit without having the needed visa?

So right now I am confused:

1.) Visa for Volunteer work is the Non-O Visa, right? I can not find any information about that, only about Non-O Visa for married people or retirement...

2.) So I need the application form I guess, with photos etc.. and how much does it cost? I read 5000 TB, is that correct?

3.) A friend of mine told me I need a letter of invitation from the organisation, a bank statement of yours showing 20,000 bt equivalent. Also the organisation certificate showing it's registration number

4.) Another source told me I need the following:

    "

But I am actually not sure, if that is for the Visa or the work-permit. That's why I opened this topic, just to clarify.
    Please advise
    Thanks
  11. Hello everyone,

this topic has probably been discussed before, but I couldn't find anything that covers the Non-O Visa for volunteers.

I am planning to make a run to Vientiane next week to get the Non-O Visa there.

So I am not married to a Thai woman or something, but will be enrolled as a volunteers worker.

What do I need to bring when applying for this Visa in Vientiane?

Thanks for the infos in advance!

  12. Hi,

    I am a German national

    currently on a Non-IB Visa.

I quit my job at my old company and they will cancel my work permit incl. Visa on Tuesday.

So right now I am planning to make a trip to Tachilek (Mae Sai).

I plan to loose the IB Visa when leaving Thailand and my question now is:

Would I just get the 'Visa on arrival (14 days)" without having to show any hotel bookings, flight tickets, etc. without problems?

    Would that work?

Thanks for the feedback in advance!
