  1. Hi Chaps,

Given the choice of 4 days in Phuket at the Hilton, JW Marriott or Le Meridien, which would you choose and why?

Any of the 3 you would actually advise against for any reason or anything I should know about any of them?

  2. A discussion popped up at a bar I was in last night concerning farangs being deported and blacklisted.

The question someone asked was what exactly happens to any house, condo or business property etc they may have in Thailand? Cars and motor cycles etc too come to that I suppose. I think the best guess was that they would somehow have to give someone here power of attorney or whatever to sell for them.

I said I would post the question here to finally settle the argument! harry

  3. Strangely enough I spent two months in A506 very recently. Big corner room with a pillar in it.

Yes, it was 15000 Baht per month plus electric and water but is now 18000 Baht I hear which is too high. I'm not sure if that is just high season rates and will revert to 15000 or not.

In answer to an earlier post, I asked about emailing them while I was there but was told 'manager never check email' :-)

If anyone wants my opinion on the place they can pm me.

  4. LOL, I was suspicious of the 2000THB from the beginning. So your entitled to the 2000THB sponsorship if you agree to stay at one of the overinflated hotels which is on the TOT corruption list. There you will pay inflated prices for a room, paying more than 150% of what the 2000THB entitlement allows for a grubby little room and of course then you will fend for yourself to inject more money into the economy for food, telephone calls and other miscellaneous items.....AND YOU WILL DO ALL OF THIS BECAUSE YOU ARE A FARANG! Farangs have an unlimited supply of money because they were farangs they are born with internal ATM machines that are linked to an endless supply of money (bit like being an executive/ceo for a large multinational co.)

.....its all a bit of a joke really, unfortunately its not a very funny joke for some people. WHAT A NATIONAL DISGRACE this has become THAILAND!

I have used many and have found Lucky at Suma Court/L.R. Travel on Soi Buakhoa (Nearer to Pattaya Tai end about 200m past Sutus Court, on same side) the best and the cheapest.

Just to say that I have known Lucky for around 14 years now. Since virtually my first trip to Pattaya. Over those years (I am in Thailand well over half the year) I have bought dozens of flights from her. She is usually a busy girl as she is not only a travel agent but also gives advice to farangs and their tiracs regarding (amongst other things) visa applications to Uk and all places foreign. She was very helpful when my Thai girl friend wanted a UK tourist visa many moons ago. Got it first time no probs. In fact, if you need someone to trust for any advice regarding things important in that ripoff town i.e recommendations for other trustworthy professionals then look no further. She knows everything there is to know about Pattaya and I have never heard a bad word said about her in all my years there.

And no, she does not know I am writing this and no, she is not paying me! I am just trying to repay the good service she has shown me over the years!

  6. Isaan Alex:

After spending most of the past 10 years in Thailand, going to all but 6 of the 76 provinces, living and conversing with most levels of Thai society and genarally feeling I know more about Thailand than most of the people who shout loudest (i.e people who know nothing of Thailand) I feel I can honestly say TOO TRUE MATE.WELL SAID!!

  7. I stay in dozens of Thai hotels every year and have noticed in many of them signs up somewhere that clearly state that if anyone brings a person of LESS THAN 15 YEARS OF AGE back for sex he is liable for prosecution. Fine, I have no prob with that, anyone bringing back a kid deserves all they get but my question is this. Can those signs be taken at face value or is there a law not mentioned by those signs that would clobber you if you brought a 17 year old back for a night of nookie? The hotels are being very misleading if they cannot be taken at face value. Many many Pattaya hotels have those signs up somewhere or other. Curious...

  8. Unless I am very much mistaken the actual anti prostitution law introduced in the late 1990's, I forget the exact name of it, (though I have read it due to the number of false ID cards used by the girls)) states that paying for sex with an under 18 year old is a crime only if it takes place 'in a place used for prostitution'. or words very similar. I've always taken it to mean either a brothel or a shot time bar with rooms upstairs etc. I've even know police tell short time bar owners to make the under 18 year olds (but 15 or over) go to the farangs hotel in which case no prob.If this chap gets prison time purely for paying a 16 year old for sex in an ordinary motel then I will be very surprised. Maybe they caught him on some other charge, taking obscene pics or whatever. I think a great many farangs will be watching this case. Not because of any wish to go with 16 year olds but because often the 16 year olds buy false ID cards saying they are 18 or even 20. And its not always easy to tell how old the girl is by looking at her when she is covered in makeup, especially after you've had more than a few Singha's. I've never heard of a farang in prison for just having sex with a 16 year old. Has anyone else? I'm sitting here in England and I can go out and tell the nearest policeman I'm going to bonk a 16 year old (no thanks) and he'll tell me thats fine. Thats how most of the world is if you bother to find out. Of course, if Thai law states its 18 in Thailand then thats the law and thats fine but Thais can bonk each other at 15 as far as I know and usually money changes hands anyway. The chap was a bit stupid though taking a girl in school uniform to a Sukhumvit hotel, thats really unwise one would have thought. Though girls in Thailand seem to go to school until they are past 20 dont they sometimes so maybe she had a false card anyway claiming to be 18. What happens if she showed him a false ID card saying she's 18?Is that a defence for him or not?Though I'm still not clear on what law he's broken. Unless the 'motel' was more of a brothel than a motel. Bit like

    most hotels on Sukhumvit then....

  9. Useful answers.Thankyou. If I may vary the original question somewhat and ask: What are the official Thai rules for a farang actually Ebaying Thai products whilst in Thailand? I mean, presumably it cannot be done on a tourist visa so is there a visa obtainable that allows such a thing to happen without any fear of the said farang being chucked out of Thailand? I would guess there are many 'ways around the problem' but most of them could probably turn very sour if the worst came to the worst. After all, s**t does happen and can come very quickly and very unexpectedly in the Land of Smiles.
