  1. im 29 and live in koh tao but am saving every single baht i can for the next couple of months.

Theres a karaoke bar called nong bew in mae haad that has some regular older farang who just get sloshed every 2nd day. they own bussinesses here.

i go there too but there not really my cup of tea. arrogant french.

apart from that there is a bit of a scene of locals but i wouldn't know how to go about meeting them. i think they are mostly from diving etc.

you could go to banyan bar. there are always friendly and chatty residents sitttin around there.

They have a small cinema there that they like to have a few beers and watch things with people.

Thanks for the tip, sounds like I might have to drop into the banyan bar, might even bump into you, I'll shout you a drink.

  2. Well they have a lawn bowling thread going on. That should get your adrenaline going, especially if some of the ladies are wearing skirts that show some ankle wink.png

Personally, I reckon you may just have to rely on your colleagues at work to make some introductions. One good thing about Hua Hin is its sizeable "middle and professional" class. It is far easier to meet interesting reputable Thais in Hua Hin than a place like Patong or Pattaya, safer too. thumbsup.gif

Thanks, that's good news. I look forward to meeting new people , and may even try out the old lawn bowls one day :)

  3. We are a professional family moving to khoa Tao and takiab in may. We are in early 40,s but act a lot younger at times as we love getting out for a few drinks and laughs. Is there some social groups that we can fit into with people that are down to earth and genuine. We are adrenaline junkies but also like to kick back after working hard during the week.

  4. We need good English and Thai speaking and writing qualified accountants to help our new office to be starting in may this year. Good accounting knowledge is required, accommodation can be provided if needed as part of package. Computer skills including word, Excell are required also. Training will be provided.

  5. I know it's a few months away but I am not sure how many people will apply.

We need someone to clean condo in khoa Tao and office in khoa takiab 2–3 times a wk. we also need laundry done at home 3 times a wk. we then need a receptionist/ data entry operator for office for 5 days/wk. we can provide a room for living for the right person. Salary to be negotiated.

The person will need to speak and write Thai and English well. Know how to use word, Excell, good computer knowledge.

  6. Thanks tendreams, will look into that.

    re:stradavarius37

As far as rushing to a beach resort, I am running a business so I'm not retiring or putting my feet up on the beach, with the Australian curriculum studies he will be fine and he makes friends very easily.

  7. Thankyou for your replies, I have just come across a long distance education school here in Australia that is the same curriculum he is used to . They are used to people travelling and hence works well.

Its now up to him to be self disciplined and stick to it, he will miss his friends but hopefully I can get him into some clubs , maybe muay thai or soccer so he has some friends in hua hin.

  8. We are moving to hua hin in may 2013. I have 17 and 18 year old boys from Australia. They want to do year 11 I'm trying to find a school that they can get credit for their study in Australia and also university such as Stamford in Thailand. I tried halio but they don't go that high in grades. Somtawin came up as they do English but are not an international school, I was told however their students still go on to get credit overseas and at international universities. Can someone verify if this is correct. Any other suggestions?

  9. I would recommend your company researches the possible advantages of the Australian/Thai Free Trade agreement. Don't know if accountancy falls under the services definition within the agreement, but does permit the formation of a company in Thailand with 100% Australian ownership; as well as additional easing of business visas requirements etc for Australian nationals. Refer:

Thanks so much, this is perfect! Just another piece of the puzzle filled in. Owe you one , cheers

  10. Even though I am living there , I'm not actually "working" for a company in Thailand , I'm actually working for an Australian Company that happens to have another office in Thailand.

Its not a ploy, I will confirm with a Thai accounting firm also next week.

Its about residency and the business operations not occuring in Thailand. It is the same as if you had an internet based business that sold products in say USA only but nothing is stopping you living in Thailand and running your USA business from your laptop. Surely you wouldnt need a work permit for that.

  11. I have found out that I dont need a thai company or work permit in the following situation and would like comments to either confirm or deny my information.

    1. I have a foreign company that I already operate in Australia

    2. I want to employ some thai accountants by this company and this company will be operating in thailand purely to employ some thai workers to assist our demand. Our main offices are still in Australia.

    3. I wont be purchasing any property

    4. The Thailand turnover will be nil as all turnover is earnt in the Australian company

I believe I can get an education visa for next 4 years to allow me to reside in Thailand while running my Australian company.

This is simple and will save many costs including the requirement to employ a certain number of thai's, company monthly fees etc etc

If anyone has some cheap office rental accomodation around the cha am or hua hin area let me know.

    Thanks

  12. Thanks samsipet for the referral, I will look them up. Maybe the unemployment of professional accountants in Bangkok might be high enough that there may be a few (7-10) that might like a fresh change. Maybe they are stuck in Bangkok as they don't have much opportunity to change. I have been to Bangkok a few times and enjoyed it but to live in the city every day with

Smog, crime , political tension and traffic issues, not sure there might not be some Thais that would like a move to chiang Mai or hua hin?

I've lived in Bangkok for 2.5 years and haven't seen any crime at all. Haven't noticed any political tension either. Traffic - yes lots of that. But the vast majority of people I know want to live here. They aren't going to uproot their whole lives for a job in Chiang Mai. Unemployment here is practically zero, so doubt you will find many unemployed accountants. If you do, you have to ask yourself how good they are if they can't get a job in a city with near zero unemployment.

I have heard that 20000 bht might encourage them to move to hua hin during week, does this sound plausible?

  13. never mind the jellyfish , i have just watched a man who catches small fish every morning in front of our condo with a hand thrown net land a 3 metre long grey snake. it was struggling to free itself from the net.

the fisherman stood well back ,then went to get a big stick and killed it.

Wow, what beach has snakes ? Was it a python?

  14. In 2006 my wife to be and I were house hunting. We chose CM and looked at some properties outwith the 'prone to flooding' areas.

We were almost ready to rent when a friend suggested Hua Hin. We thought it was worth a look. On the third day we put a deposit on a house and never looked back.

For us, Hua Hin won it on every count.

A few posters have mentioned the cheaper option of Cha Am. If you go there to check it out, make sure you include a Saturday. The place is absolutely heaving when the hordes come down from Bangkok.

Can you elaborate on what 'counts' hua hin won it.
