  1. We also were " part " robbed in the way that the robbers came in to the house through small windows attempted to steal the TV but couldnt get it out of the front door due to padlock and so tried to get it out of the window they came in from to no avail LOL ....that was in a 24 hr " secure " estate ...and all that

Better way to secure the house though would be to quadruple check the land transfer docs and house docs etc are correct . No end of ridiculous confusions occur when trying to sell again in Hua Hin .

    Burp..Singapore feels good though

  2. I am sorry if this has been covered but my internet link has issues with Thaivisa and as a consequence it takes an age to search anything at all.

Over the past couple of weeks I have had problems each time I've tried to withdraw money with my Barclays and Nationwide visa cards. After trying different machines I always find one that accepts the Barclays card but over the past week they have all knocked back the Nationwide. This is my preferred card as it is cheaper to use. I called nationwide but they assured me there are no locks or issues with the card.

Has anyone else experienced similar problems with their Natinwide Flex account card? I really don't want to go through the hassle of having a new one sent out.

Thanks, and sorry I am repeating an old topic.

the same has happened to me in the past ,usually its a fault with the thai computer system it always sorts its self out in the end but if it goes on too long i am not sure

This has happened to me and when I queried with NW they said that security had flagged up the account, had checked it and it was clear to use again, (tried and succesful) it could be that securty occasionally checks accounts used over here and while the check is progressing the account is frozen.

On another occasion NW was carrying out maintenance during the night (UK).

If it continues I would give them a ring the number is on the back of the card.

Yeah same problem with the Flex last 2 - 3 weeks . Since the Thai banks started charging for ATM withdrawals 150 baht per time regardless of the amount I attempted to withdraw larger amounts per time eg 15,000 baht which based on todays exchange rate is still within the 300 UK pounds nationwide withdrawal limit . Sorry ...card data is incomplete ....and so on ....call them and its the same story ..flagged due to security reasons , try again an hour later .....massive inconvenience ...leading to using another card at a higher charge ....so I reverse charge the phone calls each time at least . However when withdrawing 10 K baht amounts per time there is never a problem ....only when it is over that amount . ( have tried 11 - 12 - 13 - 14 k ) I also prefer to use the Flex card if i withdraw cash from the UK cos it beats the exchange rate and fee other banks give . Luckily I have Thai baht coming into a Thai account so dont have to use it too often ... It may well sort itself out ......buggered if I know .......great day for a picnic though

  3. Dont know if it is related . I just come back from running in Lumpini Park an hour ago the corner of Rama 4 / Silom Road junction is blocked to traffic by the army with riot gear there are literally hundreds of army and police down there , MRT access also blocked on the Silom Road side .

In Lumpini Park itself there are army and police trucks and buses and many army are setting up tents for the night in the park .

  4. Just got back from Sing, copmlete with multi non imm O.

Arrived bright and early at the embassy on Monday, transferred about 300k into the bank on friday but this is where being a lazy b#*$!rd pays off!!! I havn't updated my bank book for 4 or 6 months so all it showed was the ballance!!!!! Took my thai tax forms and pay slips (job finished in October!!!!), house book marriage and birth certs etc..

Now if you are lucky, pop back in around 12 the next day and she MIGHT have your passport there, mine wasn't so back at 2pm, still made the 3.35 flight!!

There was quite a queue both days I went for dropping off and collecting, again I was lucky and went a bit earlier and was at the front both times but if you don't go early be prepared for a wait!!!!!

And don't forgre to take a number from the little machine, saw a few people milling around for a while before the sussed that bit!!!!!

OK , so they did or didnt ask to see the bank book ?

And what was the balance in it if you showed them it ?

  5. Alright Wazza ......

This post has particular interest for me as I may be doing the same some time this year at either UK , KL or Singapore as my wife and I dont collectively earn 40 K or over per month inside Thailand although we live here all the time in our own property and earn more elsewhere .

So as far as I can see this is the state of play right now if married to a Thai national as far as options for the 1 year multi entry O are concerned :

1 . Go back to your home country ( UK in my case ) and you can get a 1 year non - O multi entry with no requirements to show cash in the bank .

2 . Go to Kuala Lumpur and still obtain a 1 year non - O multi entry with no requirements to show cash in the bank .

3 . Go to Singapore and still obtain a 1 year non - O multi entry with a possible requirement to show 400 K in a Thai bank . ( Please confirm Wazza ! )

4 . Stay within Thailand and get a 1 year marriage extension by showing proof of collective earnings of over 40 K a month taxable in Thailand at Suan Plu immigration for example .

Please correct me if Im wrong anyone ........

Wazza Ill be interested to see your results after Singapore , just wondering could you drop me that email address for the Singapore office also so I can have a crack ?

    Cheers all ...........

Sadako in Bkk ............( she never sleeps )

  6. here here ! why dont they understand that you are supporting your thai wife, a thai national one of there own!! If you have the money in the bank ie the 400000 you should be able to get a extension!!

I bet christopher columbus or whoever didnt have this problem all those years ago!!

Hmmmmm thing is Im not really supporting my wife . She is quite capable of supporting herself as she is educated and has a reasonably good job . Yes , I believe I make hers and our life better by combining income and having a property all paid off to live in etc , but I definitely dont " support her " as such .

Still shouldnt matter . We are completely self sufficient and married .

I dont have to support her and she doesnt have to support me .

hahaha we are fine , so why are we treated like aliens !

Still , not to worry , part of the fun I guess ........

  7. As for all those unfortunate people include the Thai married to Americans (and I suspect many others) who would not even have the option to leave Thailand and to join there spouse if family income did not meet requirements. Thailand is not alone in having income requirements.

Im sure it isnt , I just hope we or others never come to be in that extra unfortunate situation .

And I sincerely hope immigration will see sense because this particular income requirement makes no sense whatsoever along with the abolition of the investment visa . ( after properties have been bought and paid for ) .

I still believe the fact that if a couple are legally married and very comfortable together and its obviously apparent they can support themselves quite well , there shouldnt be this problem .

In fact , in a perfect world , a couple married should be allowed to be together wherever full stop .

  8. If under 50 and using the marriage for extension of stay the family proves it can support itself. That proof is now set at a combined income of 40k per month.

...And from what I gather, that income need not be generated in Thailand, i.e., income from investments abroad will suffice if supported by bank statements and/or a certification from your Embassy.

My question is - if anyone knows - have the rules changed for support of a Thai citizen (my son) changed as well? For me it would be preferable to show income from abroad than to put 400K in a non-income generating account here in Thailand...

Hmm not sure about the kid thing , but that reminds me , if I no longer have to show 400,000 baht in a thai bank , what am I doing with it in there still !

haha off to the bank tommorrow then ............oh ....er.......maybe not , its a public holiday I do believe

  10. So from what i can gather basicly if you are under 50 and not on a retirement visa and you are married to a thai on a non imm visa, ethier you work and pay money to the goverment ie income tax or you suffer and do it the hard way ie you go to the border every 90 days!! :D Great that seems fair!! :D

hehe pretty much yes , the 90 day thing really isnt a problem , i see it as a day trip .

Its the returning back to Uk or timbuktu or wherever it is you are from every year that is the classy part .

Thing that makes me laugh is that immigration must be aware that all these people in this unfortunate category will be doing this and just returning again straight away anyway as they have whats called " a life " here with property , investments , wives , kids or whatever .

haha sometimes I think they do it for fun , maybe Im being filmed ....candid camera ?

" hehe look , there he goes , wasting 40,000 baht , back to the UK for the single reason of getting a new visa and returning again . hahaha he has a wife here , 2 properties , they live really comfortably abiding by the law . hahaha look at him go , what a clown ! "

I imagine people in a similar situation to mine must be thinking something along the same lines .

    Still , not to worry ............ :o

  11. I suspect if income from outside the country they will require certification by your Embassy. So you would have to see what they want as proof. Could be your word, tax payments, or some other thing.

As your wife seems to be working perhaps she could obtain a raise in pay (tax payments) if nothing else fits.

Ok thanks , may be a little hard for my wife to increase salary up to 40 K a month , but maybe in the future , I have time yet , just trying to plan and adapt for the future as much as it is possible to do in Thailand !

I know my embassy will write a letter proving that I have income payed into UK bank and withdrawn in Thailand if I show them a bank statement or two , but what I dont know is if immigration would accept this .

Ill try and give them a call again , although each time I call them I get more and more confused ! hahaha all the best

  12. Without a family income of 40k you can not extend your stay. That is the criteria now.

Thanks yes Im aware of that but we do earn more than 40 K a month together , just that mine is not earnt in Thailand . Wouldnt regular payments on statements in to UK bank and withdrawals out from Thailand ATMs suffice ?

Seems crazy to think I couldnt get a marriage extension even though we are quite comfortable here .

Still , I guess thats what all the fuss is about .

  13. What about my situation , anyone can help ?

I am married to a Thai , own a condo in my name and a house in hers . We live together here legally married . She earns over 20,000 baht a month . I have over 400,000 baht in a Thai bank ( I know it dont matter any more ) . I also have over 400 K ( baht ) in a UK bank . I have money being payed into another UK bank and I withdraw it from ATMs in Thailand ( over 20 K a month ) . Problem is this money is not from my job or earnings as I dont work here . Its just payed in by Paypal every few days and withdrawn , if you get my meaning !

Could I get a marriage extension when I require it ?

Or would I have to go back to the UK or possibly Singapore / KL every 15 months to re-apply for the non - immigrant O / marriage visa .

Waaaaaaaaahhhh waahhhhhhhhhhhhhh , dont want to go ! wahhhhhhhhhhhhhh :o
