  1. what would YOU do in my situation

Learn how to troll a bit more convincingly.

You have the wrong person, I am not troll. If you dont wish to add anything then no worries. I dont know you, you dont know me. Its all anonymous.

I notice you have two posts. Clearly an addict not wanting to say as much in his own user name. How very strange.

  2. Hello Room,

    Some facts:

I am a 38 year old Brit, but I am bored shitless in the UK, and want to move to Thailand. I am married to a Thai women and have been for many years. I've got a profession (and an income of about 45K) though I am not sure I can do what I do in Thailand and other than than , I am just another over qualified farang in Thailand, I've met 100s over the years.

I want to work (teaching English FT doesn't interest me but I'd happily do a few hours in a school for poor kids).

I don't have to work as, fortunately, I have a million USD in property, savings and investments which I try very hard to never touch though I could if I had to, it gives me security and peace of mind. Problem is it also makes me a bit lazy knowing that I dont have to work because, at my core, I am a lazy, unmotivated bastard unless my heart is totally in it, then I am driven, really driven.

I like to work for my supper but, as I said, I need to be into what I doing. And my fear is that I will just be in the bars too much if I dont have a project of sorts.

So, two question....what would YOU do in my situation and what do you think I should do?

    Thanks

PS I lived in Thailand from 96-02 and my Thai was pretty good. Its a bit rusty now but I can still spend weeks with the relatives and not need to speak English.

  3. Is it me or are stories of this nature getting more frequent.

Thai Society seems to be descending onto a slippery slope with the Rule of Law openly ignored by the rich and influential with them not even bothering any more to try to conceal it. It is almost reverse anarchy where those in power run amok. With role models such as those running the country, the military, the police and just about every other service or agency run by the local or national government, what hope is there that the general low level population will give a dam_n about the law either.

Thais accept so many things in their society now, two faced attitudes, corruption rampant with some reports of 60% of government funded schemes going into the pockets of the politicians and government officials, lousy education and a million other things. Murder should not be added to the list of things a blind eye is turned to. I hope this case is investigated with vigour and vigilance and not just left in a file to gather dust because it earns the police no money.

I hope the family of this man finds closure and him peace. There but for the grace of God go I - I wonder how long His grace will last sometimes.

Still safer than USA, where almost 500 people got murdered in their place work in the last year, including 4 in Chicago today/yesterday. I think some people conveniently forget how much this sort of thing goes on in other countries. This sort of thing happens all over the world, not just in Thailand. Most of the violence against farangs that I read about in Thailand is committed by other farangs.

That wouldnt be hard - most places are safer than the USA. There were more murders in Brooklyn than the whole of the UK in 2007!

Thailand remains, in the main, a dangerous place as far as murder is concerned. Thankfully Violence against the person remains minimal. Just dont let small things grow into bg things. And dont marry hookers or drug addicts,

  4. Given the stats on murdered expats., no issue with carrying one. Buddy had no issue with carrying a gun to kill this fellow. Foreigners are not allowed to carry guns?...too bad. I'd rather carry one and have the playing field even. Authorities don't like it...again, too bad. Do their job and you won't have us doing it for them.

In my experience if you don't create any problems, then you are safe. And just be sensible.

As for murder rates, Thailand has a murder rate 10 fold of the UK and the detection rate is running at 20% (of the crimes they class as murder!). Knocking someone off their bike, on the way home from the pub and there isn't likley to be a murdr case!

  5. I am not infering this man was done this way BUT why oh why oh why do so many aged wetern men marry these prostitutes. Just because they look sweet, they fall for it. Imagine driving to kings cross and marrying some brass in her fishnets, it would never happen. I dont know why Thais are so good at the game.

    Silly silly men.

  6. Good luck. But the last guy who tried to set up a polygraph consultancy in Thailand (an Israeli) didn't make it.

I think for most intents and purposes, polygraph evidence cannot be admitted in Thai courts, and no one can be forced to submit to one as a condition for employment -- so it was a hard sell.

Thanks for that. YOu dont know the guys name do you?

Noone can be forces, anywhere to do one as a pre-employment exercise.

    Appreciate the pointer, thanks again

  7. Are all the other details, name etc., correct?

Did you submit the application via the nationality checking service?

Standard form with the blanks filled in then printed off a computer and not properly checked by the clerk, I suspect.

If phone calls and emails are not producing an answer, try writing to them.

Hello 7by7, that's just it there were no other details, names etc. Our address was correct but the letter did not include her first name, just surname along with the 'Mr'.

We did submit the application via a checking service.

Yes, I hope it is a simple clreical error as you point out.

I will write to them and see where that leads.

All in all, do you think there will be an issue?

    Thanks

  8. Hello,

My wife, a Thai national, submitted her application for British Citizenship at the beginning of September and I paid for it using my credit card.

About 6 days later, a letter was received addressed to 'MR + Surname' not 'Mrs + Surname'. The letter acknowledged receipt of the application form, supporting documents and also the fee.

However, I am concerned as the letter was sent to, as I said Mr. Surname - there were no christian names and my wife is definately NOT a Mr! tongue.png

I tried to call but of course just get a recored message and cannot get through to them. Also, I have emailed and received just an automated response with a long list of FAQs.

    Any input would be appreciated.

    Thanks

    Don

  9. Hello

    Some background:

I am a Professional Polygrapher looking to relocate to Thailand.

I have unrelated degrees as well as Polygraph Quals. I am 39 year old Brit and married to a Thai national. We have a holiday home on the Eastern Seaboard and I am financially secure.

I am planning on opening a Polygraph Consultancy (if possible) in a year's time but will need a year visa to see me through until I open the Consultancy.

Any ideas what kind of visa I need now as I wont be working - just researching in preparation for opening the business.

    Thanks

    Don

  10. Hello

I realise this isnt teacher related but I have found the foriegn teachers I have met in Thailand to be knowledgable many local sugbjects, so I am hoping someone may have some ideas/input.

I am British Polygrapher (operate a 'Lie Detector'), American trained and accredited in both countries. I am also an Intermediate Thai speaker but havent lived in Thailand for over 11 years and even then, I wasn't involved in this line of work.

I am hoping to relocate to Thailand and set up a Polygraph consultancy. The thing is, I dont know who to approach as perhaps a sub-contractor for a Security company, if there are other similar professionals in Thailand (Western or local) and am unsure if this is a restricted profession. I have contacted the Thai embassy but have had no joy. I dont even know if such a service is recognised or understood in Thailand.

Any info / pointers, would be appreciated. I currently work in the following areas:

    • MARITAL/INFIDELITY
    • FRAUD
    • SEX ABUSE
    • THEFT INVESTIGATION
    • FALSE ACCUSATIONS
    • PRE EMPLOYMENT
    • STATEMENT VERIFICATION
    • EMPLOYMENT DISCRIMINATION

    Thanks

    Don
