  1. I have only just read that report and it is truely horrendeous. Such a young lady and such a cowardly attack. Being done by cops is even worse.

What you are doing for her is really good.

I hope it all goes well.

I have sent you a PM.

  2. If it is only domestic flights, I wonder how they are going to handle transfers from the international terminal (Suvarnabhumi) to the domestic terminal (Don Muang)? And vis-versa?

Seems there will be a few people missing connecting flights that they would have gotten in the past I think.

  3. There is a transcript of the interview on the CNN website. But i can't help thinking it would have been longer than this.

Replying to allegations of involvement in bombings

Shinawatra: It's baseless allegations. No one believes so. Because everyone knows who is, who am I. I come from election, I come from the people. I owe gratitude to our people. I do everything for the good of the country and the people. I don't do something that's stupid.
  4. <deleted>???

I can't figure out where you get the figure of 140,000 in unsecured loans. The bank aint going to lend it if you can't pay it back.

    Now some math

    Value of property 49,000

    Interest rate 6.5%

    Deposit 0

    Rapayments Monthly over 25 years

This will give you repayments of 331 per month

    Rent 450

So you would be ahead by 119 per month less any expenses.

But i would be check with local agents as to the real value of the property and their rental value.

You will probably need some deposit so these figures may change.

    Hope this helps

  5. Hi Suandaao, try a calendar. Sep. has only 30 days.

Guess it was a typing error and next Sunday is Oct. 1. :o

Axel, I am aware that this Sunday is the 1st of October.

Where did you find the typing error - I would really like get it corrected ?

    Suandaao

    In the thread title.

  6. Are you realy any better off with them than you are with the standerd xp browser ?

    Yes

Firefox has much better security and extensions for a lot of different applications. Only drawback with firefox is a small percentage of web sites don't have full functionality (like Windows Update)

  7. I would have to back up Guest house with the little bit of alcohol.

Also try and book a flight mid week as i have found fewer people traveling and you will have a better chance of having a spare seat for the child, not on your lap.

Try and make it fun for your child. If he/she wants to go for a walk then go with them. Better that then crying half the way. And a few toys always help.

  8. This is very good indeed. However, if it's not at all animated, how did the tyres roll 'up-hill'?

After all of that, that was the only question you had?

Magic of blue screen... a lot of the things had a little help

It was not the only question I had! It just seemed like one of the more obvious ones...

Truely a great ad. Found this info on the tyres going uphill Making of Cog video

"At one point three tyres, amazingly, roll uphill. They do so because inside they have been weighted with bolts and screws which have been positioned with fingertip care so that the slightest kiss of kinetic energy pushes them over, onward and, yes, upward. During the pre-shoot set-ups, film assistants had to tiptoe round the set so as not to disturb the feather-sensitive superstructure of the arranged metalwork. The slightest tremor of an ill-judged hand could have undone hours of work."

    RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, use one of the following methods.

Back to the top Back to the top

Method 1: Use the program that removed the Recycle Bin to restore the Recycle Bin

If you used the TweakUI program to hide the Recycle Bin, follow these steps to restore the Recycle Bin to the desktop:

    1. Click Start, and then click Run.

    2. In the Open box, type regedit, and then click OK.

    3. Locate the following registry key:

    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\HideDesktopIcons\NewStartPanel

    4. In the right pane, right-click the following registry DWORD value, and then click Modify:

    {645FF040-5081-101B-9F08-00AA002F954E}

    5. In the Value data box, type 0, and then click OK. (The TweakUI utility sets this value to 1 to hide the Recycle Bin icon.)

    6. Quit Registry Editor.

Back to the top Back to the top

Method 2: Edit the registry to restore the Recycle Bin

Warning Serious problems might occur if you modify the registry incorrectly by using Registry Editor or by using another method. These problems might require that you reinstall your operating system. Microsoft cannot guarantee that these problems can be solved. Modify the registry at your own risk.

Note This procedure does not work if the system administrator used a Group Policy setting to hide the Recycle Bin (or "All Icons") on the Desktop.

To edit the registry to make the Recycle Bin icon reappear on the desktop, follow these steps:

    1. Click Start, and then click Run.

    2. In the Open box, type regedit, and then click OK.

    3. Locate the following registry key:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Desktop\NameSpace

    4. Right-click the registry key that you located in step 3, point to New, and then click Key.

    5. Type {645FF040-5081-101B-9F08-00AA002F954E}, and then press ENTER.

    6. Click the new {645FF040-5081-101B-9F08-00AA002F954E} key that you created in step 5.

    7. In the right pane, double-click the (Default) entry.

    8. In the Edit String dialog box, type Recycle Bin in the Value data box, and then click OK.

    9. Quit Registry Editor.

Back to the top Back to the top

Method 3: Use the Group Policy Object Editor to restore the Recycle Bin

If the system administrator used a Group Policy setting to hide the Recycle Bin or "All Icons" on the Desktop, you may have to contact the system administrator to restore the Recycle Bin icon.

Note The following procedures works only on Windows XP Professional.

The system administrator can either use the Group Policy Object Editor (GPEDIT.msc) or manually remove the registry information (that was created through the Group Policy Object Editor) for the Recycle Bin to restore the Recycle Bin icon to the Desktop.

    • To use the Group Policy Object Editor to restore the Recycle Bin:

    1. Click Start, click Run, type GPEDIT.MSC in the Open box, and then click OK.

    2. Under User Configuration, click Administrative Templates, and then double-click Desktop.

    3. Double-click Remove Recycle Bin icon from the desktop.

    4. Click the Setting tab, click Not Configured, and then click OK.

    • To use Registry Editor to restore the Recycle Bin:

    1. Click Start, and then click Run .

    2. In the Open box, type regedit, and then click OK.

    3. Locate the following registry key:

    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\NonEnum

    4. Click the registry key that you located in step 3, and then in the right pane, click the following registry DWORD value:

    {645FF040-5081-101B-9F08-00AA002F954E}

    5. On the Edit menu, click Delete, and then click Yes.

    6. Quit Registry Editor.

The Recycle Bin icon reappears on the Desktop.

Back to the top Back to the top

    WORKAROUND

If you cannot restore the Recycle Bin by using the resolutions that are listed in this article, work around this issue by creating a shortcut to the Recycle Bin:

    1. Click Start, and then click My Computer.

    2. On the Tools menu, click Folder Options.

    3. Click the View tab, and then click to clear the Hide protected operating system files (Recommended) check box.

    4. Click Yes when the warning message appears, and then click OK to close the Folder Options dialog box.

    5. Click Folders on the toolbar.

Note If Folders is not visible on the toolbar, point to Toolbars on the View menu, and then click Standard Buttons.

    6. In the left pane, under Folders, locate the Recycle Bin folder, and then drag the Recycle Bin folder to the desktop.

    7. On the Tools menu, click Folder Options.

    8. Click the View tab, and then click to select the Hide protected operating system files (Recommended) check box. Click OK.

Note This procedure does not re-create the original icon. However, this procedure restores most of the features of the Recycle Bin, including the following:

    • Delete a file by dragging it to the Recycle Bin icon on your Desktop.

    • Retrieve a file that you deleted by double-clicking the Recycle Bin icon on your Desktop, right-clicking the file that you want to retrieve, and then clicking Restore.

    • Empty the Recycle Bin by right-clicking the Recycle Bin icon on your Desktop, and then clicking Empty Recycle Bin.

When you use these step to work around the problem, you cannot right-click the Recycle Bin shortcut to access the Recycle Bin Properties. To set properties for the Recycle Bin, follow these steps:

    1. Double-click the Recycle Bin shortcut on the Desktop. The Recycle Bin folder opens.

    2. In the upper left corner of the Recycle Bin folder, right-click the Recycle Bin icon, and then click Properties.

  10. Congratulations on the baby.

I had the same dilemma when choosing a name for my son.

My wife wanted a english name and i a thai one. So i started to try and find one that is english and thai when said.

About the best i could come up with was Aaron. I think it is pronounced slightly differerent in thai (Arun). Meaning the dawn.

    Hope this helps.

  11. It all depends on the country of citizenship of the person applying for the visa and the visa type.

I know for my Thai wife to come to Australia even on a visitors visa was quite an ordeal with quite a deal of evidence to provide.

Whereas if my wife were a brittish citizen then i am sure it would be quite a different situation.

A Dutch Lawyer (specialized in Visa-affairs) is interested in your comments.

It is (relatively) easy or (very) difficult to apply-and-receive a Visa for Australia for your gf/bf/spouse?

    What's your opinion?

    Appreciate your comments.

    Thanks

  12. I would have to back up everyones advice and say to use Firefox.

It is very easy to use and has a lot more customisable options if you want to get into it plus added security.

But it sounds like you have installed the yahoo toolbar.

To remove click. VIEW then TOOLBARS and then uncheck YAHOO! COMPANION.

    Hope this helps

  13. I personally am saddened by the number of suicides in Thailand and in Pattaya especially.

But i do not think that removing the balconies is a real answer.

If people are that desperate to kill themselves then they will do it anyway, with or without a balcony.

What really needs to be addressed is the reasons why they do it and to sort out those problems instead.

How to do this I don't know because the causes are far too complex and the farang population there in general are only there for a relatively short space of time.

As for "The Goverment could start a campain " Jump for Thailand"".

Maybe Taksin could declare Thailand the Hub of Suicide Prevention and he could try and do some good in this area thereby helping out a great many Farangs whom would otherwise come to an untimely end.

  14. Going by what you said, legally you may be married but maybe not in the eyes of her parents.

Perhaps what they want is a marriage ceremony in order to celebrate and show you to everybody. In doing so gain face with everybody.

I don't know if this will cause problems if you don't marry as thjis is something that you will have to work out together.

Personally i would have a ceremony as well. It is a very different experience and i found it really good.

You say this is hipocrytical as you aren't buddhist, but then again i think it's hipocrytical to get legally married and not go to a church to give your vows. Marriage is not only about the piece of paper.

    Just my thoughts

    Hope this helps

  15. You could try common household vigegar. It is cheap and clean and good. It is a mild acid and will shine up metal fixtures and remove soap scum and built up rust. It is also really good for cleaning windows and mirrors. Apply with some old newspaper. The smell will go away after a couple of minutes.

    Hope this helps.

  16. I just asked yesterday, and was told "anything from 6 months to 2 years..."

I was told the same thing when we applied on May 11. We were contacted immediately when they required extra documents, so you can be sure that they are working on your case. But they don't seem to appreciate you calling just to ask "how's my application going?".

In our case, my Thai wife is pregnant, so we're awaiting the birth of our child before we get the medical and X-ray done. So far as I can tell, that is the only hold-up for us.

Does anyone know if they will ask us to do a DNA test on the our daughter?

bisou - I am assuming you are from australia.

Once the baby is born you can apply for Citizenship By Descent. It is a fairly straightforward process. You will need to provide birth cirtificate (can't remember if needs to be translated into english), and proof that you and the mother were together when the child was conceived. Passports stamps and the such. If you have any ultrasound photos or doctors statments showing age of foetus then this will help. It might also help to be there for the birth and have your name on the birth cirtificate.

Personally we had a caesarian birth 2 weeks early and so had to show early ultrasound images stating the age of foetus and then looking at the dates we were together from that. The embassy says that they only use DNA testing as a last resort . When I looked at costing (with the recommended clinic from embassy) it was going to cost about $AU 950. So try and avoid it if you can.

Our fiancee visa was held up in waiting until a decision on the citizenship of child was decided. All looks ok now. Just a long wait.

  17. Thanks guys good to find out about how long others take,I did get an email sent to my local federal member from Bangkok and they are still processing and have told my fiancee that they just waiting for her to get a medical done on her son whom is a part of the package, :o welcome one though.

They will not fully process your visa untill they have ALL relevant documents and tests done. Why don't you get the medical done tomorow and then ask the case worker politely whether they need any more information and how long it may take. But in any case get medical done ASAP as this will only hold up your fiancees visa.

  18. Typhoid and Hepatitus A & B are the only vac's I would worry about personally. Hep is a disease that attacks the liver. A is transmitted by food and B by blood. It is highly infecteous.

HIV/AIDS - well you should use a condom.

Malaria - Transmitted by mosquitos. I have heard that not all strains are covered by vac's. So even if you get vaccinated you may not be covered. Try an anti mosquito cream with deet. Wear long clothing

Dengue Fever. - Don't think there is any vac. But there is a lot of recently reported cases. Especially in pattaya. As for malaria a good insect cream with deet will get rid of the mosquitoes. Wear long clothing

As previously stated always get travel insurance.

    Hope this helps.

  19. Life is hard sometime and this is no solution.

In a blink of an eye when he must have thought that it was all too tough. Then once he jumped it was all finished. Somehow a great weight would be lifted and he would not have to deal with anything any more.

But it doesn't make it any easier. Suicide is not the answer.

My thoughts are with the family and the friends of this man. If only he could have gotten help from them and gotten on with his life by taking positive actions rather than becoming twisted with drinking and taking antidepresants.

Consider the thoughts and feelings of his family and friends whom must be wondering if they could have helped him or whether they caused his death in some twisted way. I have a couple of friends whom are troubled by people close to them whom have taken this route.

It is sad there are so many suicides but if we showed a bit more compassion for others rather than trying to think what is right for me then maybe we can overcome this somewhat. Unfortunately i think that western society with its individualistic commercial lifestyle tends to shun this somewhat.
