  1. whats a LBFM Boon Mee, are you using some American code? :o

LBFM is Little Brown F'n Machine, sometimes I hear Thai girls referred to as the Other LBFM.

Gun control is a lot more strict in Philippines right now, but I don't know what the stats on gun violence are. I never seen any problems the four times I've recently been there, just the pressence of force was disturbing. Every mall, metro station, and public place has armed security details with machine guns you'll also see some heavily armed police at busy intersections waiting for something to happen. Also Manila airport is a hassle to get through, they reccomend you arrive 4 hours prior to takeoff.

Anyhow there's Philippine expats and Thai Expats and talking to ppl who've experienced both cultures there seems to be no plausible reason why they prefer one over the other. They ussually say something like I don't like Thailand because blah blah blah and my girlfriend isn't Thai or vice versa. Of course there is a difference in cultures, just hard to categorize, only relation is that the extremist rebels seem to prefer the south in both countries?

  2. How are these Cabaret places?

    Life Isn't a Cabaret

BOMBAY (Reuters) - Indian authorities have decided to close some 600 cabarets in the commercial capital Bombay, a government spokesman said Wednesday, robbing the country's entertainment hub of one of its major attractions.

The move by the western state of Maharashtra, of which Bombay is the capital, to shut down cabarets that employ girls to dance follows fears that they corrupt youth, threaten local culture and encourage prostitution, he said.

The move follows a decision last month to close nearly 650 of these establishments elsewhere in Maharashtra.

"The cabinet last night approved a proposal to close the bars in Bombay as well, as they had a bad influence on society," the government spokesman said.

  3. In Korea, the Rapid Buslane is good for the busses but screws up the whole road. First it takes 4 lanes at the bus stop, a loading lane and passing lane for each side, and then goes to 2 lanes. This causes the middle car lane to always merge into the next lane at bus stops. 2ndly there's more pedestrian traffic crossing the street, I've waited for 4 minutes for all the people waiting at the light to get across. There's other hassles and I just avoided the streets with these.

  4. What? You can't even file a police report without appearing on the news? I'm sure all the <deleted> love gosipping on everyone's mistakes and misfortune... The guy probably realises he'll never see the bag again and is just waiting for his copy of police report to turn into the embassy.

  5. When that "soverign soil" requests and receives millions in aid, they tend to be quite reciprocal in their actions.

If you call it 'aid' that's up to you. I'd call it massive loan sharking and extortion.

Read a book called 'Confessions of an Economic Hitman,' and then get back to me on this.

Another conspiracy book? Let me guess, he had some kind of insider job and when he was laid-off he decided to become an author and spill all. How convenient, I'm sure the author appreciates your business.

  6. I made a note for my next visit to Pattaya about a Jewelry factory that picks you up at your hotel, gives you a tour, and leaves you in their showroom. Here's the post, forgot where I found it Anyone been there?

"Thailand is famous for really great gemstones and jewelry. The jewelry factory in Pattaya is a must see activity. The factory provides free cab service to and from any hotel or location in Pattaya. Upon arrival, you are greeted by charming ladies in traditional dress who escort you into a very modern and well stocked bar for refreshments. Then it is off to a disneyland style train ride through a tunnel with about 6 or 7 stops each depicting a step in the mining and processing of gems. The stops are all state of the art with lights, sounds, animated mannequins, etc. Quite an accomplishment..the narration was in English, but the options include about 30 languages. Following the car trip, you visit about 50 craftsmen each polishing gems and doing goldsmith work. After this, it is off to the showrooms which are huge...about the size of the basketball court at Madison Square Gardens in New York..huge. The salespeople are very informative and really know their job... they are not pushy which was a relief. The jewelry tended to be a little pricey, but the quality really demanded the price..it was exceptional. Following the preview of jewelry, it was another trip to yet another well stocked bar, while the transportation came to take me back to the hotel. The building, was spectacular with lots of aquariums, and other displays tastefully arranged throughout the factory/showroom. This is one of the best kept secrets..most of my shipmates missed seeing this great place and instead went to the usual downtown bargaining jewelry stores..."

  7. Hi there,

I work in the IT recruitment business in Thailand so maybe i can help answer some of the questions.

There is a strong demand for Non Thai Software Development managers/ directors with skills in C+, Java, .net. who can manage teams of 20+

Other areas that Non Thais are successful are in data center management.

My advice would be if you are not in the above areas then locating employment will be difficult.

However you can apply through www.etechnology.co.th

    Best Of luck,

    DJ My

  8. Does Songkan go on for 2 weeks in Pattaya? I though it started sometime after the 13th and ended on the 19th. I was planning on catching the tail-end of Songkran in Pattaya, which brings me to my other concern "traffic". Is it smooth sailing from Bangkok till you hit Pattaya city center? I might have to sneak in at 5 am or something.

  9. I would not be surprised if someone here thinks they have the answer, but I would be surprised if they actually did.  :o

As Sir Burr and mgnewman said, the theoretical models around the Big Bang describe how space itself started out as a singularity and expanded.  These models try to explain the peculiar physical observations we've accumulated, looking from the inside outward. It does not say that the Big Bang started in a vacuum, but rather that the Big Bang started the universe itself. We have no observations from outside this bubble of space-time, so we cannot have any scientific theories about some context beyond it.

Whether the Big Bang happened in some kid's chemistry set, or some solipsist's imagination, or in a big block of cheese, we cannot know without some breakthrough in our observational methods... One explanation for the presence and commonality of religious thought about origins is indeed that human nature has a deep discomfort when confronted with such an absolute wall of uncertainty or unknowing. We like to put labels and stories on everything!

We are use to knowing that everything has a calculatable size. Its uncomprehensible to think that the universe has no beginning and no end, this is in reference to time and distance. Thats why we have religion and the big bang theory, its easier to accept that Zeus farted and created the universe, but where did Zeus come from? What did I create when I had a big bang in that girl from Happy-a-go-go? Was the big-bang made in Taiwon? Who made Taiwon.

    Anyway here's my awnser:

    The universe wasn't created

it will never cease to exist

The universe doesn't have a center

nor does it have an end.

To think of it is sublime

to wage war over it is human nature.

    Anyhow, Bye

  10. Has anybody had experience getting a Mongolian visa for somebody with a Thai passport?

i also heard somewhere that Thais believe they are decended from Mongolia.....

I don't know if Thailand has a VISA exemption agreement with Mongolia but the airport at UB has VISA-on-arrival available.

The Mongol embassy in Thailand is:

    Embassy in Bangkok

    Ambassador Mr. L.Dawagiv

Embassy of Mongolia, 251 Soi Rojana Sukhumvit Road 21 Klongtoey-Nua, Wattana Bangkok 10110, TAILAND

  11. Bathing is a major nuisance for these folks as their accomodations are lucky to have even a cold shower. How about them BP dreadlocks?

They must love it during Songkran, free showers, get to walk around in cooling wet clothes, scared of opening there bags in public because when they got there sandals and waterproof cameras out some cheerful fellow dumped a bucket of water in their bags. Then they lug there extra heavy bags around untill they find a nice place to dry its contents. After a few hours a truck comes by honking its horn and low and behold there clothes get wet again. So they pack there wet clothes and go searching for a laundromat, after spending the money to dry everything they can't afford there one beer for the night and retire to a crappy bed with rashes and blisters from walking around in wet clothes.

Why do you guys let yourself be victims to whatever annoyancies they have. Tie there packs to the railing in the train, give them faulty directions, serve them warm beer, tell them the ice isn't safe, tell them that thai mosquitos actually like the repellant, tell them you saw some lice in their dreads, tell them their's a really cheap hostel with a jacuzzi 2 kilos down that country road. You guys can play games too, just don't sell them bad hash they won't take that so light-heartedly...

  12. So the corn meal for the tortillas is readily available? How do you say it in Thai? Is there a good source for Jose Cuervo or other popular mexican liquors?

If I had a bar, I'd install a grill and let the sweet smell of my marinated meat cooking over an open flame do the advertising. I'd get the bg's loving it and then cut them off unless the customers buy them an overpriced lady's taco and they'd be known as taco girls.

Only problems I foresee is the confusion about what kind of taco the customer wants and getting the bg's to exercise and/or keep off the pounds.

Most mex places in thailand only seem to focus on the margaritas.

  13. You'd think it would be easy to flee to Cambodia. Do they run names through a computer database when you exit through immigration overland? Can he just hire someone to motorbike him through the jungle to Cambodia? If it's just a wanted picture on the wall or a few landmines to avoid in the jungle, he should be able to escape.

But I'm sure it'll be some bargirl that reads tabloids that will recognize and turn him in.

  14. Thanks for the responses.

So in Patttaya, I think its Soi 13 that has a Soi 13/1 -13/3, which were later changed to Pattayaland 1-3. But the Penthouse hotel has a Beach Road number also, and its closer to Second Rd. So I guess Beach Rd came first, then 2nd rd and Soi 13/2 came sometime after (and Penthouse is 10 Moo's from Beach Rd?). I guess landmarks are definitely the way to go-go then.

    PENTHOUSE HOTEL

Soi Phatthayaland 2, Beach Road 325/61 Moo 10

  15. "He had been staying at the Sawasdee Court Hotel on Pattaya Second Road in room 501."

These articles are so detailed, when there is a murder in a hotel room, some girls will think that a ghost is left behind. Some of the bargirls have extensive databases of the rumored ghosts for each hotel, and if you say your staying at one of these hotels, they'll ask you what room or floor to make sure its safe.

So next time you check into a hotel ask if anybody has been axed in it before you settle in. Girls don't like boom boom when they think someone creepy is watching.

  16. I agree with this point. stereotypes rule the mentality of majority of people in the world.

by then - so are questions about how americans looked upon are based on similar stereotypes that in less developed countries especially in , say, muslim countries as Indonesia (not to mention Iraq or Afganistan) americans are despised etc. and such opinions/ impressions are based on official warning against visiting particular places etc.

why wouldn't be this same question asked in slightly different way: not how americans looked upon, but any foreigners in general; or americans among the others like germans, swedes, french, brits etc.

the very question itself implies or at least reveals the assumption that somehow people are comvinced that americans should be /might be / would be looked upon differently than others. why is it so ?

Yea, the U.S. State Dept has serious travel warnings for Indonesia, yet I had no problems there.

I visited the local markets, got lost at the docks/seafront in Jakarta, toured a few other provinces in Jawa. The only disparaging looks I got wandering the dark streets were by the rats. I visited Mosques, some that were still under construction. Muslims would happily escort me in and tour me about. Never once got a bad look when I answered that I was from America. Actually they seem kind of confused when they found out I wasn't there on business or to visit anyone. After my initial vacation there, I regularily visit on business.

So if an American was welcomed in Indonesia, during their very strict Ramadan. I would think Thailand would have no problems with any foreignor.

  17. Speaking of big spending, what do you guys think of the guys who ring the bell in a packed club or even buy buckets of those ping pong balls that are a better deal. There's guys in the states who'll go to strip clubs, stand at the stage and literally start flicking a stack of dollar bills on the stage, they'll go through $50 before she even gets naked.

Those places are already overpriced as it is and they're making it worse. Then they come to Thailand and a girl gets a drink just for loungin with the rest of the girls waiting to dance.

Wilko, what's "Mai ao(ah-oh?) Khrap" mean?

  18. One problem I've seen, is that many foreignors get annoyed by the street peddlers. Sometimes they'll get in your path of travel to get your attention, I ussually just say No, thank you or sorry and change course. I completely ignore them if I stumble into a crowd of them.

Maybe someone has some suggestions on the best way to handle the situation. I'm sure they mostly bother fresh-looking tourists.

The peddlers have probably learned not to care about ppl's responses. But I would say you shouldn't use hand motions to shun them away, just look at them, shake your head and ignore them I guess.

  19. I love Lucifer's, when I vacation at Pattaya with my buds, we always go do our thing and meet up at Lucifer's around midnight in a druken stupor. I couldn't go there once cuz I barfined a girl that was a year to young to go in, so it was straight to the hotel. The last time I left Pattaya I developed some pictures and saw a picture of me with an adoreable Thai waitress there, so next time I'm there I'll be sober and looking for her.

Now, I've only had experiences with the arabic factory workers who tend to smell and buy the cheapest beer. Put a group of them in a bar and you'll notice the smell walking in. If they or Koreans sit by me I'll ussually re-locate myself, never seen them cause any trouble though.

I've noticed that some of the clubs turn away Arabs, I know this not because I've seen doormen turn thew away. But becuase I look arabic to many ppl and not like the mexican-american that I am. First few nights in Pattaya I had a blast bar-hoppin with a white buddy and another mexican. They left and I solo'd another week, I went upto Classroom and those guys said I couldn't go in, I was dumb-founded and questioned them. Luckily the manager or owner was outside on the phone and for some reason motioned them to let me inside. So there I was surrounded by beautiful women and distracted by that little confrontation, had a drink and left.

Checked out a few more clubs a denial here and there but had no reason to want to go inside, then off to Happy to pay a girls EWW. She was going to sleep in, meet me at Happy that evening, and she'd spend the night with me just for the 500 bt club fee.

So half way down the alley the doorman is giving me the X sign, I approach him telling him that I'm meeting a g/f there, he says Arabs aren't allowed, I say I was there yesterday, he looks at me in disbeleif, I say I'm American, he looks me up and down and gives me the yeah right face. Now, I don't know if this would offend some of your guys's homeland pride, but I quickly reminded myself to stay calm. Then in an authoritive voice that any serviceman would recognize I ordered him to get his manager outside. Shortened story, mamasan said hi, come in, stayed a couple hours, left with my girl and her friend, doormen were trying to be cool on the way out, I just ignored them and went to Lucifer's to get the pre-boogy on.

Now I have a stack of business cards that say "let this guy in" and the confused doormen honor them. But I still tend to avoid the hassle and solo other asian destinations when vacation time comes around every other month. I work at various locations within the region.
